The best thing is too get lactulose, I found it made my baby too gripey, so for us coloxyl drops are much better if you can find them. They have been out of stock for months but we got some from the auckland city hospital pharmacy. Speak to your midwife or doctor you shouldnt really mess about with this stuff by yourself. We have also changed formula from karicare to S26 (breastmilk is even better but I have run out!!!)

You can get it on script if you want it for free or you can just go and pay for it at the pharmacy as its not that much.

My gp said that you can add extra water to formula, just don't ever put less water. Is not recommended as a long term solution though but if just for a few days then would be fine. I use to put extra in Spencers when it was hot because for a while he wouldn't drink any water on its own.

She just won't drink it. She is starting to sip water occasionally from her sippy cup now, but I just add 10mL extra to each of her bottles and she is happy and thriving with that and no longer gets constipated. Once she starts drinking water I will just cut the 5-10mL extra water out.

Don't add extra water to your bottles though as this isn't recommended. Just offer water after a milk feed so 5-10mls after each day feed.

I found it took my wee man about 2 weeks to sort out his constipation but did ofer him 1 teaspoon of brown sugar in 50mls of water every 2nd or 3rd day until it all sorted its self out.

There are lots of posts on this so you could do a search.

I think with formula it's recommended you give them some water (separate) each time they have a feed? That's supposed to stop them from being so bunged up... when they're older you can give them a wee bit of prune juice diluted (mostly water).
