i remember watching a video in antenatal classes and they were showing techniques to help with pain, and there was this lady who looked like she was kinda doing a slow hula - rocking back and forth and round and round - but her hubby was standing behind her pressed against her and it just looked so WRONG!

Ahhh birth... it really does pay to have a reality check now and again. Will definitely stop me from doing it again.

I had a minor graze and no stitches, but that hurt more than enough!!!! lol I remember my antenatal classes adn teh teacher who is an old grandma type lady was going through the breathing and sounded like she was having an orgasim, everyone in the class was trying not to laugh it was sooo funny. During the birth the midwifes told mum to look at the baby coming and didnt relaly give her a choice which was odd as mum was suppose to be strictly up head area only. I dont think I made any noise (apart from abusing hubby apparently in the first stage) but also had epi which helped. Hhmm Maria - did that happen both times or just the second time? I didn't think that was done to everyone as often - maybe cos you had a bit of bleeding with Jayde she wanted to ensure there was nothing else that was gonna cause it to start up again?

hang on, just read your post again. hhhm - maybe it's just a part that i don't remember cos i don't think it happened with me. I tore with my first, quite a big tear. No epidural,no drugs. They did stitches front and back to keep it togeather. It didnt hurt at the time, but ached for months after whenever i did number twos and didnt really come right until after i had my second baby and had no problems at all with her, maybe just a small graze, was fantastic.

What i find is the worst part about the whole birth thing was after youve finished pushing out the baby and the placenta, the midwife thinks its a good idea to shove her hand up you and have a good feel around to make sure everything has come away. okay I didn't have an epidural but did tear. my friend whos labour i was at had an episiotomy cos she had a ventouse delivery and she told me later she didnt notice it ...i sure bloody did -that was the only time i wanted to shut my eyes

I had an episiotomy as bubs needed ventouse delivery, had had epidural so didn't feel it or the stitches, but I was so preoccupied with my new daughter that they could have amputated my leg and I would not have noticed. i had a few grazes too and they are painful - some midwives leave them some stitch - and well, mine stitched. I went thru an OB and had an episiotomy..also had an epidural so didn't feel a thing when the cut was made. I had the epidural right through the birth (big time wuss) and what I found interesting was that the most painful part of it was when I was stitched up....I felt that the most (and it was more uncomfortable as opposed to really painful). For my second birth I tore but didn't feel that. Once you've given birth you are so focused on your new child that you leave the OB and midwifes etc to do their thing.

They usually don't do episiotomy these days unless there is no alternative - most midwives and OBs reckon that a tear heals faster and better than a cut. I have a random question....
How many of you ended up having an episiotomy? Im absolutely petrified of them lol I have no idea even under what circumstances they do them and i was hoping you lovely ladies could fill me in so im at least prepared lol
