well tonight went quite well we did try and settle her in the portacot around her normal bedtime but they didnt work she just screamed so got her up and she was quite happy..managed to play a game of buzz.

When we all go to a friend's house, Ella will either stay up late and leave for home and bed when we do, or she goes to bed in our portacot around her usual bedtime - either seems to work well for us. 8mos is quite a sociable age so even though she will be quite tired from being out, she will likely stay up well past 5pm easily just because there are lots of people to look at/"talk" to. Take the buggy for her own space and also plenty of food and things to look at (such as little books/rattles that she would like to play with). You should be fine!

If the worst comes to the worst, let her go to sleep in your arms and then pop her in her pram. I have done that on occassion and it hasn't become a habit!

NikkiB - I have done this since Lauren was born BUT only because we are very social people and always wanted Lauren to be sociable and very flexible.

At the end of the day she doesn't really have a choice not to be sociable, she fits into our weekend plans quite nicely now so not much need for babysitters except for tomorrow night cause its DH's 30th I NEED to have a drink......or maybe 2

If you take her with you can you just keep your routine as normal, but pop her to bed in her buggy or something?

We often take Lauren out with us in the weekends and I just take her buggy along with us. I bath her and feed her and do all the usual stuff at the house we are at and then pop her to bed as usual but in her buggy. so tomorrow we are going to a bbq its a combined leaving do for my husband and a couple his other work colleagues

BBQ starts around 3pm although the meat and that wont be cooked till later on...now we will be taking miss with us and I am planning on returning home around 5pm to give her her dinner bath and get her settled for bed.. I did ask one of my friends if she could babysit ..she said she would but she is sick :( so I suggested to DH that we ask our neighbour if she could. he said we could always take her with us and one of us come home when she is cranky..yeah hello come 6pm she is a write off and it will be me who has to come home as she is still being breastfeed.
