Daniel was 9lb 4oz, is now about 9lb 7-8oz and we've just moved him to infant nappies. Treasures leaked more than huggies. We had one 108 box of newborns and used them in 2 1/2 weeks. The cheapest I've found are nappies.co.nz (2 boxes of 128 infants for $100). We use wipes when we're out (all gifts or freebies)but use baby flannels at home.

    Author: emz
Subject: 20014
Posted: 12 August 2008 at 1:41pm

We had about 300 NB nappies and still have approx 100 left. Jack was in NB size for maybe 6 weeks? He was 3.48kg at birth but was really small, just heavy. NB was swimming on him for ages (almost came up to his boobies!).

I would wait too, buy a few packs of nappies but don't go overboard. Supermarket vouchers or a savings acc would be better cos then you get what you need when you need it.

As for brands, huggies is good, treasures is fine for Jack too although doesn't last quite as long. Only the giggles though, the ultra (the more expensive one) is crap because it doesn't have gussets and Jack's pee would just run out (not good when you're in the line at the PostShop and you get soaked ). Each baby is different though. Also boys wee at the front and girl below so that's why from infant they have the different gender ones.

Wipes: huggies are really potent. I tried them out on my face, because if it irritated my face, there was no way I was putting it on my baby's bottom. I find huggies, while they're thicker, they sort of wipe the poo around instead of actually picking it up. Plus they're so expensive. Jack's in cloth so we use cloth wipes, but when he's in disposables (like at mums house or something) we use Loving Touch wipes from countdown. They're only something like $3 for 80 which is pretty good. I also use them on my face instead of facial wipes cos they're just as good and leave my face nice and smooth.

I wonder if it depends on their legs too - I noticed babies with thighs seem good in Treasures but they never came close to sealing around Ella's skinny legs, so she leaked every time. It's trial and error really, seeing which brand/s work on your particular baby.

As for how many to buy? I'm getting a box or 2 of newborn Huggies for this one, and then I'll have to wait and see. Ella was in them for a fair number of weeks, and went through about 12 a day.
