I got my interview! Its on the 28th at 1:15!

Briahnas birthday, and the time she was born lol!! (1 minute off anyways )

 

Oh im always crap with asking questions! lol. I know that sounds weird, but when it comes to that bit (with anything - jobs, etc) im like.. uhhhhh nope im good! lol. Can never think of what i want to ask. Even now i dont know what i would ask when im in there! haha.

Yes but there's not many people I know that would purposely portray that they were there for a good time, now that would just be silly

I always used the mentally of 'they're working for me' though as its true. emz - at Waikato Uni they felt quite entitled to decline you if they thought you were there for a good time, as they have certain pass rates etc they need to keep for subjects to keep their funding (I think it was 80% for law). You only have interviews from pre selected programmes not ones you can just enrol in. If you were to do your nursing through Maasey Amber, if you had got an interview you would be asked that.

Good luck Mel. One thing to always remember though - YOU are paying THEM, not the other way around. I doubt that they would NOT let you in (sorry for capitals, can't be arsed doing bold etc) as students give them money. They loose nothing by people dropping out etc as they have clauses that means they get all of your tuition anyway.

So think of it as 'I've already got in cos its my right, not a privilege' and that they just want to meet you so you can get a feel of the environment and you'll be fine!

And yep the TOW question comes up a lot, maybe say something about respecting everyone's cultures, opinions and ideas on different matters and that you will need to be mindful when you go out into the workforce of how yours, and others, cultures and histories affect your day-to-day interactions etc etc. Don't stress too much about that one, they won't not let you in just because you can't think of an answer.

They will send you a letter advising you of the time and place of the interview. Usually they will in the letter let you know what they want form you there (some times they want you to do a short essay as well as the interview). I can pretty much say they will ask you what your views are on the Treaty of Waitangi.

I have worked at the College of Ed in Palmy and they did want to see that you had studied before and that you are ok to take on so much study (if you hadn't studied in a long time - I do think that was only because it was a teaching programme). They will probably ask why you want to study this area, what you want to do with the qual.

lilfatty, thanks. I think ill just wing it though ive never been good at those sort of things. I remember doing it at a course i did when i was about 18 and yeah, i felt like a right dick. hehe.

 

I guess i just have to answer any questions honestly. Its not like i dont wanna be there!

 

Oh cool cuppatea, im not entirely sure if i want to do vet nursing as i think id cry too much LOL. I would like to work with the SPCA too.

Most likely ill just get into working with horses and hopefully ill find something over in England/Scotland (wherever my mum is at the time!) cause im going over there straight after i finish it!

Normally they prefer older students as they know you will be taking it seriously and not just there to toss it off. Most 16yrs olds, myself included, have tossed it off at school or college, I think they just expect it and I doubt they will hold it against you now.

They may ask why you want to do the course you have enrolled for, what your aspirations are etc. I doubt it will get to heavy, i expect it is more a meet and greet than anything.

Ps. I have also enrolled in the same course but extramurally through otago, I am doing 3 extra papers so that it is the first year of the vet nurse course and then will go onto do the 2nd year of it. I actually did something similar to ^^^^^^ but it wasn't through WINZ. It was quite good but you feel real like a real dork. I just remember dress nicely but not skanky, natural make up and hair tyed back and tidy. Make lots of eye contact and have a few ideas about what you might say about yourself. This is where Nationals 15 hours a week training would come in handy (preparation to enter the workforce classes usually have interview techniques as part of their curriculum).

However I digress ...

Just tell them that. When I had my interview for my law degree, they asked why I wanted to study, was I prepared to put in 100% effort, that kind of thing. I was 22 at the time, and left school before School Cert, and it actually counted in my favour because I was making the effort to try and further myself, and I was past the "just out of school" phase, and was therefore more mature and likely to apply myself.

I got a letter from Bop Polytech about my application for the course i want to do (i applied extra early so i was sure to get in lol) its animal care, then i go on to do animal handling or i could do the vet nurse one.

Anyway, they said they are processing and will contact me about an interview!

 

Im scared!!!!!!!!! Haha. I havnt had any kind of interview for a long time! I know they will let me in but i just freak out in interview type situations as im very nervous and shy.

 

Does anyone know what types of questions they ask? I did a course there years ago when i was 16, but i dont remember the q's they asked me!

Do you think the fact that i slacked off (i was straight out of school it was more just something for me to do so i wasnt doing nothing lol i know what a waste) when i was there then will make them not really want me in it?

 

Ive been wanting to do this for sooo long but havnt had to guts to start studying again.
