Wow, poor you & poor wee Chiara! Sounds like it was a rough time, with all the tests etc. Glad you went with your gut instinct too. I can't believe that A/H's Dr told you, that you were being paranoid!!!! I've never heard a Dr say that to me, if anything they say that a mum can never be too paranoid!

Hope Chiara continues to improve, and you get some much needed rest back home!

Thanks so much for all your messages of support, and for the texts that kept me entertained coz man that place is boring!

For all the time we spend at Starship, you'd almost think I *liked* it up there!

Chiara is doing much better, fortunately we got onto it reasonably early (no thanks to the doctor at after hours we saw on Mon who told me I was being 'paranoid'

) so she didn't need any oxygen but she did have a few pretty scary coughing fits where she couldn't catch her breath and turned purple and was spewing milk and mucous everywhere and had the doctors (and me!) a bit freaked!

Am feeling pretty freaked out, I knew she was sick coz she had a fever but after being told by after hours just to give her sponge baths to bring it down (

again!) I wasn't too worried so I nearly didn't take her to Starship, in fact I probably wouldn't have bothered except that the gremlins had an outpatients appt there so I figured I might as well get Chiara checked but I didn't think she was that sick.

The triage nurse took one look at her and the next thing there were doctors everywhere and they were taking her away to do a lumbar puncture and all sorts of other nasty tests, which thankfully all came back clear, but the chest xray showed a pneumonia on her right lung so she had to have 48-hours of IV antibiotics. She's now been discharged on oral antibiotics and with an apnoea monitor (we already had the respisense one for her anyway) and she has to see the paediatrician for follow up on Tues.

Not sure what caused it, most likely she caught the virus that the gremlins have had and it spread to her lung, but there is a small possibility it was a reflux-related aspiration pneumonia so the paed will follow that up on Tues.

She's been an absolute trooper thru the whole awful experience tho, smiling and laughing, even last night when they were threatening IV fluids as she was getting dehydrated and refusing to feed she was lying on the bed looking and me and grinning, so cheeky! She eventually got the message that Mummy wanted to go home and started feeding thank goodness! She didn't even seem to mind being woken up for her antibiotics/obs etc.

Sooooo glad to be home, looking forward to sleeping in my own bed! I see on another forum that Emma and Chiara are in hospital and Chiara has pneumonia
