I am O- and I did have the anti D at 8 weeks pregnant with Andrew as I had had some bleeding and we didn't know what blood type DH was. We later found out he was A- so I didn't require anymore anti D shots. It is just like having a normal jab in the butt, you will have to give consent for it as it is classed as blood products.

I'm O- and Willie must be A+ coz we have 2 A+ babies and 2 O+ ones. I had the anti d after all three deliveries, plus once during my pregnancy with the gremlins after a bleed at 25 weeks, and once during my pregnancy with Chiara after a bleed at 14 weeks, and after my m/c. I apologise I tell fibs ladies - CMV is not usually part of the antenatal screen my doctor just did it because I work with children. As for being o-neg I'm gunna make hubby donate blood so we can find out what blood group he is. I'm A- and developed antibodies during from first pregnancy from a silent bleed. The health department are looking at giving Anti-D injections to RH- women at 28 weeks, 34 weeks and after delivery. I went through a MW who did everything by the book, but have heard that some OBs give Anti-D injections at 28 weeks and 34 weeks anyway. Shame I didn't know about this earlier, as we would have definitely gone through an OB. Unfortunately, it means that we are going to have a very high risk pregnancy with #2.

How do you become infected with cytomegalo virus?

CMV (cytomegalo virus) is a virus which can cause birth defects if you get a infection while pregnant and are CMV negative. It's part of they ante-natal screen so I'm sure your midwife would tell you if you were as well. Most people are CMV reactive which means they have had it in the past and have developed antibodies. But I am negative which means I have never had the virus It's kinda like not being vaccinated against rubella. Just sucks for me cos I work with babies so have to be extra vigilant with hygiene so I don't catch it. what is cmv neg? i havent heard of that either.
im o- too, its fine- mostly. you have an extra blood test to check antibodies and the anti-d jab after the birth to prevent anything nasty for future pregnancies if bubs is a positive blood group.

I don't know what CMV negative is.
But I am 0- and its fairly common, you take anti-d shots for your second and any subsequent pregnancies. I had ante-natal bloods done which shows I'm o-neg and also CMV negative which apparently is not so good as 40% of kids under two are carriers of CMV and it's bad for baby if you catch it when pregnant and you can't vaccinate against it like rubella. As for the o-neg, Dr said it can affect future pregnancies and may need anti-d injections.
