It took us a long time to decide to have another one (and then 6 months TTC) but as we live back in NZ now with family support Im hoping it will be easier this time around.

Congratulations on all the second babies in here!

Mrs_B I'm planning an elective caesarian this time after my unpleasant labour and emergency caesarian last time. Sorry your VBAC didn't work out.

Anyway its nice to check in with you all. I hope everyone is going well.

Carrie.
C is a nightmare. He doesn't even behave when I take him out! People often comment on how full on he is.

TT - haven't really attempted it. Waiting until summer. He does like to wee on the grass though! So every nappy change it's "I do wees on the grass?" So off he charges outside to wee on the grass. So I guess if I pushed the matter we could get there but I've put it in the too hard basket for now.

I'll probably get slapped on the hand from OB for this but is anyone keen to join a private Facebook page for this group? I hardly ever come on here anymore as I don't like the fact that it is so easily accessible by anyone but miss having you girls to chat/whinge to about our rampaging toddlers ;) PM if you're keen and I'll set one up :)

Busy-ness all around!!

So at the 3 month Plunket check, they noticed Charlotte was developing a flat head on one side and didn't turn left ... at all. I'd kinda noticed, but didn't think much of it. They referred me to the hospital Physio who then sent me a letter basically saying "get lost. If it's still a problem in another 3 months we might take you then".

We'd already taken Lucas to a Cranio-sacral guy after he was born 'cause he'd been a forceps delivery, so we decided to take Charlotte and see if he could fix her.

Turns out the 4.5 hour delivery was a bit much for her body to keep up with and the muscles and tendons hadn't done what they should have. After 1/2 an hour of gentle tweaking, she seems to be much better! Looks left beautifully and feeds without choking (she would almost turn blue on occasions!). Such a relief. Even caught her sleeping on her left lately.

So pleased we just took matters into our own hands and got it sorted.

Anyone looked into the Montessori preschool setup? Been thinking I may send Lucas to somewhere like that in a year or two. Interested in hearing about people's experiences.

Though his poos are always dynamite so maybe we just learned to live with it!!! lol

FIL is Lactose intolerant. He carries lactase enzyme pills around so if he feels like eating cheesecake he can pop some pills to digest it. Good for emergency cheesecake consumption!! You can do the same thing to a bottle of milk/cream apparently....Lactase breaks down lactose, (same with fructose/fructase?) so if you put it in milk then itll be broken down in a few hours. Not really worth it for 3 years, or giving pills to a wee one, but for FIL... it is I guess. Basically the body cant produce natural lactase, so youre just providing it in a handy pill.
Is he ok with fructose (apples, coconut, grapes, tomato)?
One doesnt automatically mean the other... but sometimes.

Nothing worse than undies filled with poo...

Edited by KitKat

Horrible child if he doesn't have one. And yes, I would love to get him into undies! I think he is so ready, I just have to get on with it and do it. Although we had this conversation the other day: "H, have you done a poo? - No poo - are you sure? - No poo - H, I can smell it! Let's go change it. Where do poos go? - In the toilet - do you want big boy undies? - Yay, big boy undies!" 5 min later "- H, have you done a poo AGAIN?! - No poo." Take him to the toilet, show him the poo (gross, cleaning out pooey undies!)and ask him what's this? He says - Egg. WTF???!!!

Katrina, you will get there hun! I am only just surfacing but it does happen!

We had a rough couple of weeks, first with everyone being sick, DH had a spell at hospital - nothing major thankfully, and we've found out that M is lactose intolerant. We don't know if it's temporary following a tummy bug, but given all her previous eating and sleeping issues I think it was always there. In the last 10 days she's become a different baby - eating really well, draining her bottles, sleeping well and has finally started sleeping through! We have the odd night where she is up once but as she is teething I can't blame her! I feel like a different woman, going from her being up every 1-2 hours to just once a night. The only thing is lactose free formula is $$ and her meals have to all be cooked separately, so some nights I end up doing 3 lots of dinners which is ridiculous, must streamline. But it's quite hard to come up with healthy, filling, and easy meals for both of them that doesn't include dairy.

Auckland girls, when are we going to meet up?

Running on exhaustion isn't much fun and I'm SO missing having time for my hobbies. Anyone with 2 kids here finding time for hobbies again? What age did it happen? Am getting desperate for "me" time.

Bought Lucas some undies today. I can't wait to get him in them, but think it's still a bit soon. We've had oodles of dry nappies lately, but just can't get that darn poo happening in the potty yet.

He also likes to call everyone "man" or "boy". Very cute but can be awkward when a not-so-feminine lady is walking towards us and Lucas is stately loudly "man!".

    Author: KitKat
Subject: 20430
Posted: 10 June 2011 at 2:51pm

Hi guys! I often wonder how you are...

Maudie- WOW. Very busy woman ey! 3 babies under 27 months! They'll be able to learn so much together... teach each other how to do stuff, and egg each other on!

Carrie- Daniel sounds very smart! Alphabets and numbers! very good going! Id imagine it being tough without your family around. Well, I found it tough, i shouldnt assume others do... but as you say- lonely. Wont it be good to move back to NZ to be nearer them.

TT- I havent had any luck so far, not even recognition of poos or wees.
I think Im probably not being very proactive either though.
I found a book in the library the other day about Elimination Communication.... Basically nappy free babies. VERY interesting. I always thought about it being too much pressure on a little one to have to worry about all that, not to mention us as parents! And there was NO way I couldve with Lox.... it goes into real depth about the cultural, physiological, psychological and physical stuff. So- I have taken some interesting snippets from it, and may even give it a go with number 2... when we choose to have number2.
I hadnt thought about it much, but it pointed out that the majority of babies are brought up w/o nappies. Only Western/industrialised/developed countries have them/can afford them. India, China, Africa to name a few- none of them rely on nappies... just teach 'em young, use crotchless pants so they can squat when they need, have vessels handy all the time, and establish a cue sound (like a whisper ssssss) when its time to 'eliminate' lol. I always thought it was hippy dippy- but actually it makes a lot of sense. (and Im a secret hippy!!).
The thing is I guess- our whole family unit, and culture has evolved... The term- it takes a village to raise a baby... well now its often just immediate family, or even single mums.... makes even learning about these things difficult. What is totally logical, and natural to them, is almost un-comprehendable to us... where do you start with 'no nappies' aaaagh.

A very interesting concept I find.

It got me motivated with a few different techniques anyways.

Also made me think- with Lox about to TT, he might be a good teaching tool for number2- copying toiletting etc. Are you finding that Maudie??

Sorry for the novel.

Edited by KitKat

    Author: CarrieMum
Subject: 20430
Posted: 08 June 2011 at 11:18pm

Hi there, after Maudie updating I thought I would pop in and say hello too ( if anyone remembers me?) I still pop in here from time to time.
We are still in Brisbane. Im working 2 days a week as a nurse in the large public hospital here and my DH has a new IT job where he works from home all the time which is lovely.
Our lifestyle in Brisbane is really good but its a bit lonely without family. We have some good friends but its not the same. We are also still renting here and I miss having our own home. We still own our house in Auckland and luckily it has the same tenants as when we left 2 and a half years ago!
No TT or big bed here yet but Daniel is a very easy going boy and he chats away all day. He can say half the alphabet, count to 10 and knows all his colours so we think he's going ok.
Regarding TT, he tells me when he's done a wee or a poo but I don't think he's quite ready for TT yet. He doesn't climb out of the cot so Im not rushing him into a bed yet.
Shame we never got to catch up Maudie but it seems you have been VERY busy!!!
Still just Daniel and not planning another baby until sometime next year. We are hoping to move back to NZ (Hamilton) early next year to be closer to our families so if that happens we'll start TTC once we've done the big international move. It will be so nice to have family support and company next time rather than doing it all on our own living overseas.
Glad you're all doing well and exciting all these second and THIRD babies arriving or on the way. Take care.

I'm fairly confident of leaving her with no nappy on though at home during the day cos she will usually tell me she needs to go...but yeah a bit hit and miss lol. She was ready ages ago but I wasn't, you really need the time to commit to it and I simply didn't have time or energy (still don't really lol).

Amazed you gonna have 3 soon ... 2 is blowing my mind at the moment, can't get my head around 3. You're an absolute legend!

Anyone got any spare energy they can send me?! heck, this sleep deprivation is hard slog. My kids are both so good and well behaved, yet I feel like I hit the wall so often. Come the kids' bedtime I have to begin acting and pretend like I'm not about to lose the plot completely. Argh. I love having a little baby around to snuggle with again, but at the same time I can't wait until we're out of this newborn phase. Tough times.

No TT here either. Maudie, once again you amaze me. L will tell me after he's done something and like Stefany, #1 & #2 are all the same here. L totally understands what the potty is about and even puts his toys on it and gives them chocolate, pretending they've done a poo. I guess it's just a matter of time. 2 in nappies though ... I'm very sick of wiping bottoms!

Got a great pic of L giving C a cuddle this morning. Will try post it here sometime. Also managed to get out of the house and child free for an hour this morning. Phew, I needed that SO much.

I've decided my sanity cannot handle any more children. I'm stopping at 2. Think I'm just not wired for any more. How about you guys? Anyone here planning on more than 2?

I finally pulled my finger out and thought I would post and update everyone on our progress.

We are settled here in Brisbane.
Mattijs is doing so well, he is completely toilet trained. He has been now for about 4 months. He started when he was having a holiday with my Mum who does family daycare. All of a sudden Mattijs came home asking to use the toilet I was like ok lets try. From that day it has been go go go for us.

We had another Baby Boy lasy March, Caleb. He is doing so well, Caleb is a big Boy. He is such a thug. He has started walking finally. At Caleb's 1st Birthday he was 12kg.
He is a little parrot, he tries to repeat everything that Mattijs says. It is very cute.

So what does 2011 hold for us. ANOTHER BABY. I HAVE 8 WEEKS TO GO. Mark & I are expecting a BABY GIRL We are so so so excited. I am very nervous as well. I just want my Daughter here safe and sound. I have no doubt my little Angel Anika will be with us on the day her little sister is born.

So ladies I will have 3 babies under 27 months.

I am going to go back now and read about everyone else and see all the new Babies. I am so looking forward to seeing what everyone has been upto. xxxxxx

Have tried to keep up with posts now and then but then seem to forget what l have read.

Mum went back to the UK this week. It has been really hard to deal with and l feel incredibly mean for raising the boys here so they dont see her and vice versa. I also will really miss her as she was amazing with both boys and me. It makes me dislike my MIL even more which is something l will need to work thru as l am stuck with her.

Ollie is doing great, complete 2 yr old rascal. Everything is, l dont want to, no way, stop it etc. Wonder where he gets that from?....oops lol. He spends alot of time in time out and l am constantly telling him off but l can't see what else to do.

Unfortunately after me saying we had avoided reflux it hit us like a ton of bricks when l finally realised that that's what all the screaming, unsettledness etc was. So Will is on meds now and much better thank goodness. Still wakes 1-2 hrly overnight tho and only the odd 20 min sleep during the day. Resorted to a dummy which has been fantastic. He doesn't have it at night or all the time so once things settle l hope l'll be able to get rid of it without to much trouble.

Well better go before the 20 min sleep has been and gone! SpecialK, KTPie and Stefany3 let me know if you fancy a catch up. Can do Mon and Fridays.

Edited by tibby

Two kids definatly keeps me off the net A LOT more. I'm just always changing nappies, feeding the baby, playing with Isaac in my spare time so I don't feel like he feels neglected! And going out is just a pain now, but I do like to get out of the house to give Isaac a change of scenery.
We had a big 2nd party a couple of weeks ago, mum made the cake (I gave her a picture to copy). So much easier when it's hot and he can run around without nappy on, I imagine it will be a bit harder in the NZ winter, will have to stock up on lots of cheap trackies with elastic bands for him. I think he is so ready for TT so I don't want to wait till next summer.

He is also cutting his molars - ARGH - and little miss just cut two front teeth, last night H was up 3 times and M every 45-1 from 9pm to 6am. I was just thinking last night that I need to get onto L's cake sometime and this will be perfect. Looking forward to giving it a whirl. I've never done a fancy birthday cake before so hoping it all goes ok.

Sorry to hear you have to wait a little longer for #2. Hoping it's all easily sorted for you.

L had a tummy bug yesterday. Makes me angry to think someone took their ill child out and passed it on, but I have to remind myself that it's that time of year. Didn't really enjoy the barf all over my bed as a result though. Mental note to self: when a sick child is lying in my bed, place a waterproof mattress cover underneath them.

Parenthood is exhausting, isn't it?! I love my kids to pieces, but some personal space occasionally doesn't go amiss either. I'd love to go to the toilet in peace sometime, or have a drink of juice without hiding around a corner so the toddler doesn't see. Maybe even sit down to a hot coffee instead of one that was made 1.5 hours ago and has gone cold on the bench!

Make sure you watch it, as it bubbles up a lot.
*Transfer to a large mixing bowl, and cool for at least 10-15 min.
*Add sifted flour, and eggs beat mixture till smooth
*Pour into a lined tin.
Bake in moderate oven (180) for 50 min.
Stand for 10 min before turning onto a wire rack for cooling.

Notes:
You can use all sorts of tin shapes/sizes, or put it into 1 big slab tin, keep an eye on the cooking time if you divide the mixture into more than 1 tine as it may not take as long to cook.
This cake is easy to cut/shape with a sharp knife... serrated is best. Only once cooled... and dont ice it till its cool, or its all melt away.

Choc icing:

Icing sugar
Cocoa
Butter melted
bit of milk to get the right consistency

No idea on quantities- I never measure it.
Prob 3 cups icing sugar, 1/2 cup cocoa, 50g butter, 50ml milk???
Beat it up and see... cant go wrong really.

And MM love your pics, and happy birthday to all your kiddies.

Glad scan went well MrsB! I too resisted finding out and when DD was born and handed too me there was a small drama with the cord rupturing so my ob was busy sorting that out. I couldn't care less, and was like "what is it, what is it", and he goes "what do you mean, it's a BABY!". So I tell him that I KNOW it's a baby, but what is it? He shrugs and tells me that he thinks it's a boy! So then I unwrap little miss and proudly and hysterically announce that it's a girl and ask Dh to double check.

Kat - honestly, the baby is the easy bit! When H is in daycare and I only have little miss it feels like a day off! Although she is already starting trying to get up on her knees, so I think we'll have a crawler soon. I'll let you know how I am getting on with toddler and a crawler! But they do entertain each other, H dances for her and 'reads' her stories, so cute.

entertaining toddlers... I am considering more hours at day care! Seriously I get out of the house at least once, sometimes twice a day - we go to story time at our library, mainly music, to the park or the playground, or meet up with friends. When we have to be at home I just let him watch TV or I put on a kids CD on for him, or let him do drawing. Thank goodness you didn't hop in the car to go to Birthcare ... it could've been a car birth with no midwife, eek! So pleased it was a quick one for you too. Just what you wanted. My gosh, these 2nd babies are making quick entrances into the world.

Life with a newborn and a toddler is proving very busy and I've hardly left the house since Charlotte arrived. That's great on the bank account though ... I don't have any time to spend money and go to cafe's! Author: stefany3
Subject: 20430
Posted: 13 April 2011 at 9:36am

I have a bit of time now, Timothy is sleeping and Isaac is sitting here reading some books. I've never been to the library so much! He doesnt like the library, but he loves the books once we get home.

It is definatly different having 2 kids, you forget how much time it takes to feed them, I have less time now to watch TV haha. But he's a good feeder and a reasonable sleeper, although he seems to have a sore tummy at 4am every morning! ARGH! At least Isaac sleeps thru the crying

So, my labour was super fast!
Around 9am I started having a few niggles and a sore back. So I rung DH at work and told him this MIGHT be labour, I wasn't really sure. I also rung my mum at work to let her know she might need to come and pick Isaac up at some stage as I might be in labour. The pains were pretty regular. At 10am I rung DH again and told him he needed to come home now! I rung mum and told her to come over now too.
I rung the midwife and let her know I was in labour, just so she knew she might have to free up her day, she said she was driving around, so she'd pop in to check me out, she arrived at 11am and did an examination and I was only 1cm and not fully effaced, a bit gutted, but she said it would be happening later this afternoon. So to ring her when the contractions were worse. She left about 11.20am. And mum took Isaac to her place about 11.45am. By then my contractions were worse.
Then I had a massive contraction and needed to push, my waters broke. I told DH we should ring the midwife again. So we rung her at 12.17pm and we arranged to meet at Birthcare. DH was getting bags on his shoulders and then the midwife rung back at 12.19pm and said "do you think Steph will make it to birthcare?" she could hear me in the background and thought it might be a horrible drive. So she came straight to our house. And it's a good thing she did!
By the time she arrived, about 12.25pm, I was trying my hardest to not push with each strong contraction!
Once she got there it was 3 or 4 contractions and the baby was out!
So from start to finish it was under 4hours, and for 1hour of it I wasn't even really sure if I was in real labour. The midwife said if we have any more kids, i should plan for a homebirth next time. it was quite stressful not knowing how it should go at home.

He hasn't bitten anyone yet (he actually got bitten last week by another child but that's a whole other story!) but he hits (usually only me though), he packs a massive tantrum and screams and cries if someone else has a toy he wants or if I don't happen to have the toy on me that he wants - sometimes its just because I have the red car instead of the orange one! He drives his cars and trucks up our walls and marks them and when we tell him no he looks at us and grins and carries on or runs away to another part of the house to do it. He's had many a meltdown in the supermarket if we don't buy what he wants (usually Eclipse Mints which he calls Tic Tacs because he likes to shake the tin). We do usually manage to keep him near us if we go out somewhere and he wants to walk though. By the time DH gets home the house usually looks like a tornado has gone through it as well - I guess I could try blaming an earthquake!! If he's not happy about something he'll pick his toys up and throw them across the room so they either hit us, the wall, the furniture, the doors or the window.

I have to say I'm very much looking forward to the end of the terrible two's. If they start earlier than 2 does that mean they'll finish early too??!!??

Was in hospital just half an hour before she appeared.

Home now and looking forward to getting into a routine again ... although I imagine that'll take a while.

Hope you're all doing well. Thinking of you Stef. I was VERY over being pregnant too. It's tough not only physically but mentally and emotionally. Here's hoping baby doesn't keep you waiting too long and gives you a dream labour!

I just don't even have the energy! So i'm kinda expecting something any day now. But then again, maybe i'll be 2 weeks overdue
Everyday from her on it freaks me out a bit that tomorrow I could have a baby.

Babycity have 25% off everything today! I had to get tough on him, but at the same time give him lots of attention - lots of stories, walks etc.

Yay for your mum arriving, hope that'll give you a bit of a break and a catch up on sleep.

Oh, and with the Raynaud's - my MIL made me little wheat bags to heat up and stick in my bra. AMAZING! I can send them your way if you like?
