I gave her some pamol and she slept better last night than she has for a while! Took her to the GP today and she said that the drum had ruptured and the other ear drum is under pressure. She gave us some antibiotics and wants to see her again in a week.

Chloe actually seems a lot happier since it happened, poor little thing!!

    Author: Maya
Subject: 20438
Posted: 27 August 2008 at 8:52pm

Oh no, poor wee Chloe, no wonder she's been so miserable!
I'm going to disagree with everyone else tho and say give her some Pamol coz it will be mighty sore and then see the GP tomorrow. It's not going to do any more damage between now and then (in fact now that the drum has ruptured so the gunk can come out she might even be a bit more comfortable coz the pressure will have eased) and your GP will be able to prescribe drops and possibly oral antibiotics as well. I know the AH doc can do that but ears can be a chronic/ongoing condition so it's important to have it documented with the GP so that if she has another infection down the track you can look at referral to a specialist. They can also refer you to an ear nurse to have it suctioned/cleaned out if need be coz sometimes discharging ears do need to be suctioned.
Mercedes had her first burst ear drum at 5 mths and I took her to AH and they said that it's not common practise to prescribe antibiotics for ear infections, took her to the GP next day and she was horrified that that's the advice I'd been given!

Bella recently had an ear infection, and they leaked, but she's had grommets, so thats why. You will most definitely need to get her on some antibiotic ear drops at the least...

I rang my Dr but they had no appointments until tomorrow.

Her ear is covered in gunk and it's "leaking" everywhere, onto her jacket etc.

Is this an ear infection do you think? Should I take her to the urgent Dr or will she be okay to wait until tomorrow?
