I just paid for an old lady's groceries.

Joshie and I were in the queue, and I decided that I would pay for someones groceries as my RAK. I first thought of the lady behind me, and I turned to her and gave her a smile, and she looked at me like I was weird and looked away. Bummer for her At the checkout beside mine there was a little old lady, maybe in her 90's, and she smiled at me. So I told my checkout lady I wanted to pay for her groceries too. The poor old dear didn't quite get it at first - she kept saying that she didn't know me! I explained that I just wanted to do something nice for her. Just for no reason at all. She said it was the nicest thing anyone had done for her for a long time

OMGosh I forgot the most important thing I did today...

I got up early and made both my girls pita pockets for their lunch including chutney, salad, ham and cheese, they also had yoghurt, carrots and hummis and an apple. they thought it was christmas as that is one of their jobs to do themselves hahahahahahahahaha

Yay for RAK day

Dropped Alize small, near new clothes to a low income family.

Took the photo envelopes from the school to the photographer for the school secretary.

Made dinner for my mum

Got my monthly report in for Clinical leader.....this is huge as Julys one only went in on Friday so she will be very happy!!

I need to buy chocolates for someone. i might drop a block off to the Daycare when I pick Alize up!!

My sister was a recepiant of this today. She got a bleeding nose while out walking and she had to sit down on a bench to try and control it. A lady walked past with her shopping and gave her a box of tissues, and told her to take the box not just a couple out of the box.

Today so far....I am not too random tho but it is the thought.
Brought my boss and co-worker their morning coffeee (don't like my co-worker so was a big thing for me)
Gave chocolates to 4 females
Sent some nappies and a book to 2 ladies from OB
Sent a friend a small pamper package which is due to her shortly
Even my son has joined in, he gave his mate a small parcel in the weekend

For me this is quite normal other than the chocolate they were special.

I think if all of us can do 1 nice thing it makes for a nicer NZ

I try to do nice things for people when I can,but lately I seem to have been the recipient more often than the giver so will definitely think of one or two things to do tomorrow! I am the same MamaPickle - I try to make everyday a RAK day! I always think its easy to offer to help the elderly load their shopping into their car or push their trolley for them. I guess because I am a woman and I always have Oli with me, then they feel fairly comfortable that I am "safe" IYGWIM. Tomorrow I am taking the first meal of the week over to my neighbour who has just had a baby - I was doing it anyway regardless of the day.....

I like some of the ideas on the website....although I suspect that our local cops might think I was taking the p*ss if I turned up with a box of donuts for them.

I try to do one RAK a day - like Freesia said, taking trollies back to the supermarket, helping the elderly/mums with bubs...etc, load their car up with the groceries etc..

The pessimist in me worries that some people would take advantage of the day and prey on unsuspecting people.
eg: Helping a little old lady to her car then stealing her purse.

The last one I did that I got a thank you for was for a member on here last year. I had a heap of sposie nappies that I wasn't going to use on Josh (as we had gone to cloth), and her boys was born just after Josh so I knew they were the same size. It was 2 days worth of nappies so a great gift for them.

Last year when DH and I lived in Melbourne I was part of a wedding forum which encouraged everyone to find a random couple's wedding registry and purchase something small off it as a gift with the message "Enjoy your new life as husband and wife. This is our random act of kindness to you. Pass it on"

I like to do things when I have the opportunity. One day at the supermarket there was a mum and a little kidlet at the checkout in front of me and the mum didn't have enough money to pay for a few things so she told the operator to put them back. It was just a bag of oranges, some cornflakes and a bottle of wine so when it was my turn, and she had left, I told the checkout operator I'd buy them and then I raced out to the carpark and gave them to her while she was getting her little one into his seat. She didn't want to take them but I told her I'd been in her position before and it would mean a lot to me for her to take them. I remember last term we had been swimming....had to pay for parking as their was a swim meet on. We were only 45 mins and the ticket was for the day.
There was a man waiting to buy a ticket, we stopped and gave him our one. The poor sole said he was struggling to find some coins to meet the required payment! I still don't think I'd eat it even if it said it was from a friend ... plus the ants here would beat me to it anyway

I did one the other day. I still had about an hour left on my parking note so I gave it to the next lady who parked beside us. She was really grateful because she was only going to be a few minutes. I try and do little things like this anyway especially if it's no extra hassle for me. Like if I see someone finish with their trolley at the supermarket I will take it back to the store for them if I'm on my way in. Oh I did a RAK week a couple of months ago with my Girls Brigade girls. It was so cute what they did.... making cards for the teacher or friends, doing the dishes for mum, tidying their room, leaving little notes for their parents, sharing their toys with their siblings... so much kids can get involved in too. And oh my gosh how sweet is that of Mercedes!

Hmm sally not sure about the baking eh.... Aww I want to try the coffee one. My goal is the next time I take the girls ot for coffee we will also buy it for the person behind us. Perfect idea as it will teach my children too. Althou Mercedes doesnt need any prompting she asked a collector for Greenpeace if she wanted to stay for dinner b'cos I was in the middle oif dishing up the dinner when I had to answer the door lol

If you get a chance to have a look at the web page it has suggestions.....like buy the person behind you a coffee aswell, or let someone out in traffic.
Last night I let an eldery lady infront of me at the supermarket, the smile on her face was priceless.

I think this is a lovely idea. I heard about it recently & thought I'd love to do something for someone. *hunts out thinking cap & puts it on*.

Is anyone going to join in on RAK day? (random asks of kindness)

I just read about it, albeit I tend to be generous with a lot of things I think I might just make the extra effort on this day.

I was touched by a story on Oprah a while ago, a young boy was asked what he wanted for his 5th birthday. His reply to his parents, he felt he had enough toys and wanted to give them to some children who needed them.
This family contacted their church and found a single mum with children....who literally only had a roof over their head. No beds etc. So the family rallied together and filled this house with love and possessions.
They have continued on and provided for many other familes.
Of course by the end of it I was in tears! This family did not have a lot of money but a lot of love which they were able to share.
