Oh that's right, I'd forgotten that's what happened with us too. I ended up going in again just cos it was a free appointment anyway, and that time I got the script for lots.

My GP only gave me a small script like that just because you need to try it and see if it works, theres not much point getting loads of it if its not going to make a difference. Aussiegirl, hope the gaviscon sorts it out for you! Yep my boy had it at every feed and yes I gave it before the feed - meant he was more hungry and would gulp it down.

When I got my script I got something ridiculous like 8 boxes at once, which was very handy! Hayley is now on gaviscon after weeks of spilling. Hoping that this does the trick! It says to give after each feed, but I only got 1 box of 30 sachets, with 1 repeat, so that would only last 10 - 14 days (I would give it approx 5 times a day), which means another visit to the docs to get another script??

I never actually measured how much water I put in the gaviscon, but just put it in so it was liquidy enough to go in the dropper. I don't think it was 15mls. When we used gaviscon in South Africa we only gave the little babies 1.5 -2.5mls and that did the trick-are you sure its 15mls?

I used Ranitidine with Benjy and it worked really well. He seemed to settle and feed so much better almost as soon as he started on it and I stopped it when he was about 5-6 months with no worries.
Gaviscon didn't work for Benjy either.

I haven't used Gaviscon for a baby. But are you saying you need to get 15ml of it into your month old baby? That seems alot aye.

sounds a dam sight easier than this Gaviscon........I wonder do you have to use 15ml of water or could you use less? Ranitidine was a liquid medicine. It is an antirefulx medicine. I had to give her about 1.5ml I think from memory about 15mins before a feed was due. That was the only hassle really....but she took it really well in her sleep just suckling at a tiny syringe. My now 8yr old had silent reflux as a baby. We spent 3 weeks at the mothercraft unit a waikato hospital while sorting it out. I was breastfeeding while in there and the specialist put her on ranitadine and another one I can't remember the name - not losec. I really wanted to try thickened formula but the specialist said to keep with the medication.

Anyway, upon returning home breastfeeding was a major chore and she would feed for less than a minute and pull of and cry.....and this would circle....so in the end I got the AR thickened formula and it worked wonders! We were so excited when she drank 80ml in one go!

Since then I have found out that losec isn't the best think out here either - so read up on it thoroughly. With the gaviscon - Harry used to hate it with a passion, but we kept giving it to him and after a couple of weeks he loved it (he'd get all excited when he saw us getting it out... gross). The best thing is something Kellz recommended, to get one of those big massive dropper things from the chemist and use that. It doesn't come out as fast as it does from a syringe.

We're using Losec granules with Chiara and it's working really well, we saw the paed for a follow up last Tues and he said she is still refluxing (when he puts pressure on her tummy) but it is obviously not bothering her which means the Losec is doing it's job.

I'd go back to the docs and discuss other options. Daniel did well on ranitidine and he had silent reflux.

To get the gaviscon into Daniel we mixed it up with some EBM and water and fed it to him in a bottle (worked out to be about 20-30 mls. Brennan has reflux..just like Blake except worse it seems than Blake. I cant even remember what Blake was on in the end or whether I just ended up holding him all the time..This time I cant with Blake running around.
Doc has given me Gaviscon and its proving to be a nightmare..mixing it and actually getting it into him...dont even know that its going to do much..... Brennan wont even lie down for a second on his back..

Im thinking Losec capsules on the tongue before feed would be so much more realistic and easy and prob work better as he seems to be silent reflux??
