Yup, what everyone else said - he's the rude one. Much the same as people having text conversations while you're supposed to be visitng them/out to coffee etc. This is my major bugbear and it drives me nuts because sooooo many people do it (even my mum ) and don't see how it's rude. Sorry. I won't rant any more. More rude to ignore the person IRL than the one online. I think it was rude of him to 'talk' when he had visitors. Nah he was rude.
But I think this is an arising problem with ppl just a bit younger than us. Cell phones and MSN and all that are so "normal" now that ppl visiting friends IRL and sitting down for a good chat is getting somewhat rare. I think first priority should be given to those visits and I don't even like to have the tv on when someone is visiting (or if I am visiting them), unless we are watching a movie together. It's extremely rude to chat online while someone is visiting you! Priority should be placed on the person who has taken the time to come and see you!

I have alright mannes. I am always being told to say please, but I always say thank you.

If someone is at my place they are there to see me and talk to me. If my phone rings I answer it but tell them I am busy and will call them back. I don't usually go on the computer (unless it is needed), and if I get a txt I read it but will put my phone away.

You weren't rude, just pissed off.

Yep, the person who is visiting in person takes precedence. If you have to answer the phone or msn then it would be polite to say that you can't talk as you have someone there, and you'll be in touch later.

I think that if he thinks it is *rude* to not respond to an IM then he should have responded and said that he has company and he would *chat* later.
IMHO, IRL people take priority over virtual ones...

Nope, that would totally piss me off too. He was definitely being rude to you. There would have been nothing wrong at all for him to tell his msn friend that he couldn't chat, and he should have set his status to 'busy' or 'away'.

Do you think you have good manners?

I think my manners are pretty good but they could be improved a little. I have a friend who loves having good manners. Will say pardon rather than what or huh.. says please and thank you always etc but he thinks I was rude last night..

I was at his place. We were just hanging out talking and watching tv. That's all good. His laptop is hooked up to his tv so that he can have the big screen as his screen. Everytime I'm there he flicks between tv and the comp. So last night he did this and then sees this chick has said hello and he takes up a conversation with her and I'm just sitting there bored outta my skull while they are talking about how dodgy each other is. I eventually got sick of it and grabbed my keys and said that I was heading off.

He thinks that if someone says hello while he is on msn its rude not to talk to them, my response to this is that when I have company at my house I pay attention to them, I don't sit around chatting online or on the phone etc. If I see someone is trying to talk to me online I'll just go over and say I have company, can't talk.

Which do you think is more rude.. chatting online while someone is at your house.. or telling a person trying to chat to you that you can't talk?

I don't know why but last night that just really pissed me off.
