Yep, I used to charge around $15-$20 to tutor uni students, but I was a uni student too at that stage. Wow that is pretty good!! I didn't realise that you could charge that much!!! Have just been printing off last years exam papers and thinking oh my goodness I really need to get my brain fired up!! All of that stuff has been pushed to the side until now. Just realised how much I love Biology!!

Peanut I taught Health as well. It is such a fantastic course but not valued highly enough yet. Hard when you are fighting against what people percieve as 'academic' subjects!! Unfortunately most of the Year 11 kids I had didn't want to be there or even at school so was pretty hard going. I am a secondary teacher also but don't tutor as not much of a demand for health, social studies or tourism tutors....wish there was tho!

A good friend of mine is tutoring while on mat leave. She is an English teacher. She charges $20 an hour and does a two hour session a week for her two girls.

You haven't done tutoring before but you are a qualified experienced teacher, so don't sell yourself short.

My friend isn't a teacher, and I know he gets paid a lot for tutoring - just asked DH and he reckons he gets paid about $50 a session He does work in an affluent area of Auckland though.

At Kip McGraths where I worked for a short while, they charge $42 per lesson (80 mins), and the student is one of about 3 in a group.

Just wondering if anyone out there tutors secondary school students?

I have been approached to tutor a student for end of year exams but I have no idea what I should be charging having never done it before. This is the 3rd year I have been out of teaching. I don't want to be too expensive as like I say I haven't done any tutroing but don't want to sell myself short either in case other students want help as well??

Any ideas??
