Oh Janine, I have had this happen before, same circumstances with the assignment as well. Best of luck getting it done and take comfort my friend managed to retrive all her photos after a similar thing happened to her.

Hey don't stress you can definately get the data back!!!

My hubbie ran over his lap top (long story)..... but was still able to get everything off it.

ARGH ARGH ARGH

ok, so we moved yesterday. everything was kinda ok, we started the day well, i had the kitchen unpacked before lunch time and the girls rooms mainly done by the time they got home at 5.

BUT

Then we tried our computer, which by the way was only bought when ayja was 4 weeks old if i remember rightly, or thereabouts.   Nothing had happened to it for us to worry, they were careful, lay it down on soft stuf and made sure it didn't get damaged. Mike wired it up after dinner, tried it the first time, and it was making funny noises and wouldn't switch on, i mean the light would come on but nothing after that, nothing on the screen or anything, so he switched around a cord and it appeared to start up.. there was our usual background and all so we just thought he'd wired it up wrong. So, he turns it off, and we get to unpacking more stuff for the lounge.
I go to turn it on later - to retrieve all the addresses to put on the trade-me packages to send out today and hello - IT WILL NOT TURN ON!!!

Now, i managed to persuade mikes boss to let us email all the trade-me peeps to let them know to send their address to mikes work - and mike is gonna check the account so that is kinda getting sorted - hopefully the people will understand - i feel like i have mucked them round - i had been writing all the details on a piece of paper - but thought i would be incrediably efficient and write it all up on a list on the computer.. i wish i had just stuck to paper.

but here is the suckiest thing of all. On our computer, is every digital photo taken since we got the computer,we have not used a normal camera since we got the digital one. which means 9 months of Ayja's life that we will never get back unless by some miracle they are able to retrieve it, there were videos of ayja's first roll, first crawling - all that special stuff - we have told them that no matter what cost, we will pay for them to retrieve these. I am feeling so bummed, i actually started bawling my eyes out after i realised that we may never get them back . I was up till after midnight last night trying constantly to get the computer to turn on in the hopes i could burn them to disc like we have been planning to do forever, but never got round to doing.

Also, i have saved copies on there of every nursing assignment i have ever done - i mean i have the hard copies i handed in, but this was all the resources i used and useful stuff like that.

to top it off - I had actually done an assignment early for once, and was way over 3/4 of the way through it, just had the conclusion to do. It is due on monday. and it's ALL GONE. our computer doesn't take normal square discs, only burns them. sometimes i email assignments to ucol, but only if i plan to work on them there at some stage - which i hadn't cos i knew i'd be at home this weekend to finish it. You never think that a NEW computer is going to just die like that! Instead, this weekend, i will be here, at ucol, on the computers all by myself, not helping unpack our house, not spending time with my girls, not anything.

Hence why i am on here briefly - I am at Ucol, frantically typing up all that i can remember of my assignment, in the hopes i can get it finished and handed in on time on monday.

I just had to check in here for a mo, to de-stress, and let you all know i probably might not be on here much, if at all in the next few weeks - as by the time our computer gets back to us, it will be easter and we are going on holiday.

MOVING HOUSE SUCKS!
