And yes, lots of peole have had other IDs for personal things, however I cannot, in the 3 plus years I have been here remember one being made up just to have a go at someone. Most other people have the balls to say what they think instead of hiding under a fake handle.

Woah what a crazy thread!

Ive just done a search and its not hard to see there is some strong conflicts that have happened over the time on here and WAY worse stuff said than whats been said on this thread!

Agree with Mrs Mojo who really cares what name they used, fair enough too they obviously didnt want to get envolved in it all but pointed out some facts they thought we should know! Was interesting reading anyway!

I find this site great and yep of course there is conflict but as someone said what online forum is there that you DONT get conflict? As someone said its a lot nicer than TMMB - man they are HARSH on there arent they!

OMG give her a break.  There are lots of threads recently where people have used pseudonyms and no-one's called them up on not using their real screen names.

 

Steph I may be wrong but I believe those quotes came from the kindy thread after BS accused Emma of being too harsh on Maya and making her parent the gremlins.

 

Now, if people would just stop posting this thread would die a natural death.  Which is obviously what BS wants since she's not posted for several pages.

This site is awesome, for sure. And yes, for the most part we all do get along pretty well.

But in my opinion there is nothing wrong with saying that someone did something that was a bit silly. Like someone pointed out, we are all human, and we all make mistakes. I think its really unfair that .Mel was slated for saying so. If you post on here, you do so for others to comment or offer advice.   

I've been got at a few times for voicing my opinions, and it hurts for sure. But I put myself out there, and would have been surprised if others didn't comment.

A bit of debate, or disagreement is healthy. For the most part people on here do get on well and this site is friendly. It's only the odd ocassion I see a personality clash or someone taking offence to something said. It's pretty rare really. And what does one expect when you have hundreds of women (mostly) voicing their opinions. I actually am surprised it doesn't happen more often. But its great that it doesn't.

Firstly to talk about OP in a somber manner.
What a bummer, I wouldn't give my Well Child up for no one, they would have to use a hot poker and threaten to take my eyes! In that scenario I would recommend to get on to the student and tell him that you are coming over to stand over him while he looks, and if he doesn't find it then you're making a written complaint. If you have no luck, you can apply to Plunket for a new one and ask for the MW and Plunket records to fill in the slots (assuming you did Plunket of course) and then you might have half back of your initial book.

Secondly..
FARK I nearly wee'd when I was having my laughing fit at Mel being "mean". Give me a break! You want to see mean? I am sure that something 20x nastier would have been first post on TMMB! Or any of the other big boards will rip you a new girder. my 2 cents.

To be fair, if YOU were part of a study of some kind, you probably would let the student have/borrow/look at stuff like well child book etc without much of a second thought. After all, they are bound to you for a certain time, they are attatched to a medical school for goodness sakes, so you would kind of assume they had some kind of sense of responsibility, plus they become part of your "family" for the year - although this one's timekeeping is not that great, but you get my drift. It's not like BS gave it to some random, she gave it to someone she trusted would look after it and give it back. If you were in a similar postion, you probably would too, rihgt? (and I know you are all going to say no cos you've all got your gloves off, so step back from the ring a bit and think about it!)
Oh and Im not taking sides here or joining gangs or what ever, I'm just pointing out another spin?

I love opinions and yes every one here has the right to state it here...what I dont agree with is that it has to be done in a nasty way.

Some one said that they didnt find some comments nasty...well all I have to say is that may be in my life I wasnt exposed to enough nastiness...that a little thing like this makes me feel that it is. I am glad that I wasnt exposed to nastiness then as I couldnt handle it!!

Its all good tho.... I can ignore this kind of threads...as they are plenty more nicer conversations happening on here.

LOL, that's so true Mel.  I came in here earlier this afternoon and read the OP.  I thought to myself that I'd never give something important to someone that I already thought was irresponsible but I couldn't be @ssed posting.  I only came in again now to see why on earth this thread had managed to get to 4 pages... thanks for the interesting reading girls.

 

Finally I just want to say I am thoroughly sick of people proclaiming that this isn't the "old OB" and threatening to leave.  If you don't like it then go, noone's stopping you!

Oh no BS, I hope you get that book back. I would be gutted if I lost Sam's. I agree that he probably hasn't lost it, but it is somewhere in the cluttered room of his and he can't be bothered looking for it.

I hope the student finds your book BS. You've done all the right things, going to the med dept etc. Since they live close by maybe you could go hound them every couple of days!!. He's very irresponsible in his research. We all need people who are wiling to volunteer in research, I'm currently doing a maternal research project, and with others out who take little responsibility in their work and the resources they're using, it makes it hard for those who are truely passionate in their project to find people trusting enough to allow us into their lives. But yes typical boy...and typical med student, it's probably lying in his bedroom under tons of paper. Good luck.....and since when was trusting someone with a possession, taking their word that they would return that possession.....been classified as being someone's fault. It's called...showing trust. I was a student for 4 years and flew by the seat of my pants a fair bit but that is just bl**dy rude. Make sure the folks at the uni/med school know. From my experience being a student I doubt he has thrown it away. I'm sure its in his bedroom somewhere under a whole load of text books! Well, I really hope for you that thats the case! I would have trusted him too, 18 mths is a long enough time esp for a research assignment and I remember when one of my girlfriends was at med school and she had a baby she studied/followed, it was taken very seriously. I'm glad you have contacted the med school. He needs to learn very quickly how importnt things like this are to people or he will get a rude awakening when he actually starts working and has to deal with the public. well comments like that arent particularly helpful!!!

He is a med student, lives 4 streets away and told me he would bring it back later that week...and we had no photocopier at that point....if id known he would lose it i wouldnt have given it to him but who was to know that....Im actually annoyed that after he said he would be photocopying when i asked him the other nite he told me he just copied some notes into his book....so i dont even have his photocopies....

I have received a call from the school of med, forwarded on the email and the paed person is going to get back to me once they have looked into it....im happy enough with that.

Talk to your MW and get a new book and ask her to fill in the week/Month/Year notes in it (I know my MW took notes as well as write them in the book). Then go to the place who did her immunisations and ask them to fill it in as they will have record of date etc.

well i wrote an email to the lady i had dealt with...ella was weeks old....and it bounced back...so left a message on her extension for someone to call me....ugh who knows who is in charge now....

anyone involved with auckland uni med know??? the lady i was dealing with was Sheree....

actually i remembered that for some of his months development studies he was away OE so he asked for his parents to drop in papers for me to complete...kinda defeats the purpose of a developmental and observation study of a child really....

That's really annoying! If it remains lost, you will be able to get copies of most of the details to make up a new book from Plunket (or whoever you went through) and the copy of the imm's cert is probably at her DC. I would complain also. This is completely unprofessional and the University should be aware of things like this that happen.

However... it's not all "bloody students"! Most research students I have dealt with (including myself!!) have been extraordinarily professional and courteous... unfortunately I think you've got unlucky with a bad one here. Me too. Do you really want to let this guy out into the world as a doctor without at least being told his behaviour is unacceptable? The supervisor and the ethics committee are good people to speak to. You never know how seriously the supervisor will take you, but the ethics committee should definitely do something about it. (when you agreed to take part, you should have got a form with contact details of the ethics committee for exactly this kind of situation).
I know its not the same, but I had a situation with a vet student last year where I was very unhappy with his actions and made sure he got dragged through the mud for it - he didn't end up failing, but I hope he learnt something from the experience. Certainly I think he realised that his bolshy overconfidence came very close to getting him sued, and cost the clinic a considerable amount in treatment they provided the help the animal recover from his "mistake". Often you may find that he's been cutting corners elsewhere as well, and whilst each offence on its own doesn't constitute unsatisfactory performance, together they are enough to draw attention to him. He might even get the hard word put on him to find the book. Definitely complain. I agree with Kabe about professionalism - students in my profession could face failing the placement if they did something like that.

I'd also let them know that he'd do 2 visits in one (two papers in one visit - eg a 11 month old and 13 month old one when visiting her at 12 months). As a lecturer involved with clinical placements, I would definately speak to the paper leader about your concerns. Feedback about areas that could be improved is just so important for student's learning. He should definately be marked down for Practicing Professionally. You could also ask to not have him work with your family anymore, if you're feeling like the relationship won't work anymore.

Fingers crossed that her book turns up!! I'd be so upset if it were me.

I would complain to his supervisor, but also advise the Ethics Committee that approved the study at the university as well.
