that's good news liz!
i tried giving jack his 10 puffs today by myself and managed to contain him, only just, with a fews kicks in the process, long enough to have 4 puffs only!

We did really well today. I gave him about four chocolate chips in a container. he got one. Then he got anotehr one after each puff. Now he grizzles when i hold it up, but he sits on my knee and lets me do it.

i know exactly how you feel liz! i've just got back from a night in the hospital with jack. he's unofficially got asthma until he has another attack and we've been given a spacer with a mouthpiece/mask thingee on the end. i have to give him 10 puffs!!! every four hours. the way the hospital told me was to wrap him tightly in a towel and cuddle/restrain him while he sucks on it....yeah right!! i havn't yet had to do it by myself and i'm really not looking forward to it.

Seeing as how I have zero experience here, the first thing that pops into my head is "bribery!" LOL But feel entirely free to ignore that ! (Although the chocolate IS an excellent idea, I won't argue with it, hehehe)

I used to get frequent sinus infections and a lot of congestion when I was younger, and even way back when I was *really* little, my mum had this thing... I want to call it a 'vaporiser' but I'm not sure that's right, and I don't know if they are still in use. It was basically a rectangular drum, where you put in water, and then another component (don't know if there was a motor in it or what?) shaped like a cylinder that you slotted into a circular opening in the drum, with a dent at the top of the cylinder for oil like eucalyptus or something. Eventually the water would heat up and be let out slowly as steam, infused with the oil - used to do wonders for me apparently. Used it for quite some years and might actually ask mum about it when I see her tomorrow.

I guess the doctor would have had a really good reason for giving the "hard stuff" to such a little man... but mind you, I must be on some other planet at the moment, am on some funny natural health / medical alternatives kick... dunno why !!

edited to add: With the vapo-thingy, it just sat in my room at night while I was asleep...

Tried using it myself (I have asthma). Not sure about the stickers as at the doctors they had a cool dinasaur one - no go. I've given it to him to play with. he runs away and puts it in places..like the bath. I swear he's hiding it.

Hi,

My boy has been on the inhaler/spacer for about a year now. To start with we gave him the spacer and mask to play with so he new it wouldn't harm him. I also have an inhaler so when I took a puff I used his spacer and showed him "Mummy" uses it to.

Went to the doctor today - was supposed to be getting taine's menzB vaccination, but Jake had a cold so thought I'd take him as well. So the doctor listened to him wheeze and put him on the nebuliser. Which he hated and screamed hysterically. I sang my entire "Wiggles" repetoire while holding the thing under his nose - he refused to have thwe mask on.
THen teh doctor came and gave me an inhaler and a spacer to use on him - about twenty million times a day. I asked if that meant Jake was asthmatic and he said not necessarily
Anyway, I have asthma and understand all the things, so that doesn't worry me, but how HOW on earth, do I get a one year old to take an inhaler????? Any suggestions?
