Hmmmmm Liz... I'm quite big on Clarks shoes. They are in most shoe shops. Just bought Hannah another pair today!!! Arghhhhh. I think I have to start shopping at the Warehouse from now on as I spend more on shoes for her than I do for myself!

The basic system (for either age group) which is the "tray" thingy and one book is around $70. The book/cartridge sets are $25 to $35 each.

We like how this will grow with him, and then when he outgrows it completely in a few of years we'll look at getting him the next one up, and Baby will be using this one by then anyway! When I worked at whitcoulls I saw the baby Einstein DVD, CD's and heard good things about them...and yet after so many years forgot all about them.....have to get some soon...I wont wait till her birthday.

oh, the baby einstein dvds are FANTASTIC!!! Those who have met Jake know what a whirlwind he is,righ? Well, he actually sits and watches those dvds. he loves the baby noah,( animals), baby di vinci (body parts) and baby neptne (water). I got mine for about $15 each from trademe. You can get Leapfrog, which is for kids aged 4 and up, which is a kindof tray that holds a special book (and the cartidge - tape - that goes with it) that encourages the child to read along, and learn basic math, spelling, pattern recognition and that sort of stuff. The child uses a stylus to point to parts of the page for activites and things.

The Baby Leapfrog is for ages 6 months to 3 years, and is the same sort of thing, but teaches shapes, colours, basic word and pattern recoginition, that sort of thing. The "tray" can be set to 3 different age levels, and the child touches the book to work it.

We've got Josiah the baby Leapfrog system (the one that goes from 6 - 36 months) and told people they can buy books for it for him... umm... some Quatro (next size up from duplo), a wooden puzzle, a push-n-go car, that sort of thing.

Also, maybe it depends on their personality but I am mum to one little girl who is not known to sit still for more than a millisecond.. ask anyone who knows us This used to be the only thing that meant she would sit still for a few mins while I rushed around doing things.. now she is older she is starting to enjoy books and will sometimes sit for half an hour while we read books.. so I think it is sometimes to do with how old they are too

Ayja watches hi-5 with paris in the mornings - although usually not long enough to hold her attention and stop her gettingup to where paris is sitting and plungingh er hands into paris's brekkie. she's a bit of a hi-5 nut, dancing to it, but that's cos paris loves it so much that we can't escape it!

paris got little people - al of you know how much of alittle people nut i am - but they are great cos the one we got her for her 1st birthday, she has now kinda outgrown - the zoo one, and Ayja thinks it is just awesome so it's good that she is now at the level to play with it. we got paris that sorta thing, and blocks and heaps of people got her size 2 clothes, so we were set for the next winter, at her 2nd birthday they got her size 3's so it's nice that we don'th ave to buy her a heap of stuff very often cos other people do it for us and we can use it for ayja.

hi there well Brianna got a doll and a pram and it was great the doll was a learning doll to learn how to use a zip, button up things and alsorts at first she thort she should be the one being pushed around in the pram then she got the right idea also those couches they are really good for them to watch t.v and alsorts.
she also got a magnic doodle which she really loved.
I think its great you are starting to get things early it always helps so your not rushing out at the last minute and so its not a huge lump some.

Ana, most of the Baby Einstein SUCK! The only good ones I've found are "World Animals" and "Neighbourhood Animals" - they are the only ones worth watching.. Ella has "World Animals" and watches it every day.. oops

The little couches are awesome and I asked another mum how long her kid used it, he was still using it at 6 :) Ella loves hers too..

Mum buys her books already...she has Barney and kids, baby animal, shapes and colors etc etc....tho she loves her books, she loves my womans weekly/day, cosmo etc etc...LOL

I am with you Aimee....want some thing that will last her. Hubby has plans for our back yard...which includes a lamb, tent, small house, slide, swing (so far) and we have a small back yard!!! he said he is going to remove my washline to make more space....I was like "yah right...over my....LOL

Sam has just turned one and got loads of lovely toys however to be honest he is still more interested in the kitchen drawers!!!!

BUT he did get one of those kiddy flip out sofas with pooh Bear on it and he loves it. Apart from the novelty of it, it is very useful for him to drink his bottle on, sit and look at books etc.

I used regular balloons and put double sided tape on them with curling ribbon tied on and stuck them all over the roof. He was in awe when he woke in the morning to the balloons and just loved pulling them all down.

My daughter was more interested in the balloons... haha

Actually good idea - fill a room up with her pessies surounded by balloons!! (Made a great picture of our girl sitting amoungst them all)

We too bought her a bracelet with her name engraved on it.
Most other pressies were clothes, books, video's and puzzles!

Don't go overboard on the toys. They really do end up being a waste of money unless its something like a leappad?

I think puzzles and blocks in bright colours are a great idea.

Maybe a sandpit? We got Maddi one of those sea shells from the warehouse and half filled it with sand for her.

Books - he likes one where I have to sing to him. He's just started doing actions too.
CDs - he's a big dancer.
hammer and peg set
plastic animals. - we have been getting him an animal a week from Toyworld - Schleich. they are realistic lokoing and really neat. the elephant is heavy as anything though and really hurts as it is thrown.
shape sorters - he particulary likes the Fisher price snail thingy
rocking horse - mum got from trademe. He LOVES it.

Hi guys...you might think I am a complete [8-}]...but I need ideas for prezzies. I want to spoilt my child so I wanna buy many many prezzies for her, as you can imagine cant afford to go and buy the whole lot at one go...so I am planning to start buying now....he he ha ha.

What did your child like at the age of 1? what was useless and what was loved? Or you can even tell me what you are planning to buy for your 1 year old.
