not sure what size you're looking for, but I was a 20/22 pre pregnancy and struggled with bottoms too...I lived in warehouse stretchy tops but the warehouse jeans I had were uncomfortable and didn't fit properly.

Someone on OB suggested I try pumpkin patch jeans as they were generously sized, and I'm glad I did - I found a great pair and lived in them. I also had a pair of egg maternity stretchy topped pants for work - more expensive, but super super comfy.

Hi ladies...just bumping this to see if anyone out there has any suggestions regarding plus size maternity clothing.

I am especially struggling with bottoms - K-mart, warehouse, farmers etc - all their plus sized tops are great for pregnancy, but the pants are no good.

Mamamore is the only NZ website that has plus size jeans - and I dont like their design.

I have looked at the aussie site mentioned on this topic - but with the current exchange rate and delivery a pair of jeans is over $180NZ.

I am considering ordering from the states - I have heard JC penny is good, and with the exchange rate it is probably cheaper than Australia. The only problem with that is the cost of returns if I buy the wrong thing.

HELP. I haven't got them yet, but she was talking about using lycra. There's lots of tutorials online that suggest using stretchy t-shirt material

Dunedin warehouse/s have a decent range of Kate Madison they go up to a 26/28 i think? and are quite nice aswell. i got a knit dress from their range coz i didnt like their maternity range because everything was black! I am a 20-22 normally, but I was fitting the PP size L fine for tops so don't discount yourself from there just because you don't think you could fit it. I didn't fit the pants though and found them uncomfy

I just found some Kate Madison jeans at the warehouse with an expanding waist ( that elastic with the button holes in it) The were quite reasonably priced too. I will have to take the legs in but they don't look too bad.

Is Womb in Bloom going to get any winter clothes? I'm in Dunedin, those tops look great but a little too cold for me right now.

Hi everyone,

Try Long Island - they have sizes up to 30. I bought some leggings and a long merino tunic top from there - they would be suitable for work. They have catalogues and shops around the country.

maternitywear.com.au is wear I got some nice maternity/ breastfeeding clothes from. It is an Aussie site, but if you know someone going over there who can bring it back then it is quite reasonable. They have those belly band things as well as the little extenders for your jeans - I am 27 weeks pregnant and still wearing my jeans with the help of these things!

You can buy giant underwear from the Warehouse!!! (Suitable for very pregnant tummies) They have some 2XL sized that equate to about a 26. You can buy thunderpants from plus sized fashion stores that come in larger sizes

Triumph sells maternity bras and their triumph range goes up 22 G/ 24 F. The fit is very generous, so I would try these ones out if you are usually a size 24-28. You can buy bra extenders as well to help make them work. not all shops sell the full range - I know that Farmers doesn't. I got some from Kirkcaldie and Stains, including a cute pink one in a slightly different range.

I find tunic tops very useful for maternity wear - you can wear your normal T-Shirts underneath because even if they ride up the tunic hides them.   Farmers has some nice knit tunics at the moment - they are quite generous.

I had XL jeans from PP (bought for $25 at the local outlet store) and I normally wear XL clothes in average brands, so figured XL might fit... I had it on the tightest setting on the waisband and it still had to be hiked back up every 5 mins! Got some nice tops for about $10 each when they had a massive temp outlet out at Botany... I still wear them too cos they dont have the maternity clothes 'look', they fit really well too... again, they have been lent to a friend and still have plenty of wear left in them! A lot of people sell their stuff on trademe, so its worth looking there first, but you can always take a trip to your nearest PP store to try stuff on and see how it fits, so you know what size to get if you go via TM

Kmart has plenty of maternity gear (depends on how quickly they restock though, my local one is good, but the one in Manukau is terrible!) and I found a great light tracksuit that I still wear now, doesnt look like maternity clothing, but fit really well... at the time I was an 18-20.

Hey guys! This is really helpfull as this is my first baby and I'm not that far along. I've already started looking at materinity wear online but havn't tried anything on. Will need to soon as I'm starting to show. I'm a size 20 ontop but a 18-20 (dependant on brand) on bottem. Where is the best place to buy cheapish plus size materinity clothes? I read the posts before but they are from last year or more. So I wondered if they're still valid?

I was a size 22 pre pregnancy and I'm struggling to find good clothes for work (corporate gear) - pants in particular. tops aren't as bad because the floaty styles that are out at the moment are working well for me.

I've also struggled to find maternity track pants or yoga pants...I have a pair of leggings from the arehouse but they're not quite what I'm after.

I'd also be keen for a plain black dress - v-neck, wrap style...the kind of thing you could wear wraps or long jackets with.. I've seen some great maternity dresses like this, but not in plus size.

my interpretation of plus size is 18-30 (XL to 4XL), but a true plus size is 22 plus.

Affordable plus size bras would be brilliant - you'd make a mint. The HotMilk ones are really fabulous, but oh so expensive!
I mean, theres lots of plus size stuff out there thats lovely, but its the cost. Of course because it has the 'maternity' label, its gonna cost 10 times more than normal clothing isnt it. Feeding singlets, supportive pants etc would do really well in my opinion. If your looking for the boob tube style dresses, (I'm having a brain fart and know they have a name but can't think of it right now) then I saw at Spotlight over last summer that they actually had the material there, so elasticated at the top and then just a straight drop like the dresses, so would imagine they would probably have it again this year. I am a size 24 normally but have to be in size 26 now :P The warehouse has some EXCELLENT tops at the moment (maternity ones) up to a 4XL depending on which store you're at - they have some pretty dressy tops too which i'm going to get one of tomorrow so I dont look terrible going out for dinner with the husband :P Also, if you go BEFORE tues, the Kate Madison range is 50% off - heaps of long roomy tops for ultra cheap, and the leggings are brilliant too. Actually i'm sitting here in size 3XL maternity leggings from there and my god they're comfortable.

I totally endorse it! Wild Child at farmers is good too, but I find it all a little bit trampy this season - and over priced!

I'm sick to death of not being able to get decent plus sized maternity clothing - not that I have to worry about it for much longer of course :P But still. I need to get the sewing machine out and make up some stuff. Hundreds of dollars for pants and tops is stupid. Thanks for all the great advice! Does any1 know of any good dress makers? With summer just around the corner, I'm wanting a boob tube style dress - the top part elastic and then just floaty underneath to accomodate my baby bump during the hot weather as I'm not one for heat...

I see the Warehouse has just released a maternity range but it only goes up to size 20 which unfortunately rules me out!!
As we are on a budget and I don't want to spend heaps on clothes just for the next 4 months I went and got singlets from the warehouse 2-3 sizes above my current size and wear them under my pre-pg shirts (the button up ones). As for pants etc, I got pants from the warehouse (Kate Madison) which still allow me some room to grow after which I will probably have to start wearing my skirts from Farmers which have an elastic waistband. I'm kinda lucky in that I really only need 2 changes of "good clothes" as I live and work on a farm so it's trackys all the way for me!! And when it gets to the point where they have to sit lower its ok as my singlets are quite long so can go over my bump.
My only other suggestions are to look at www.preciousvessels.co.nz & if you live in Auckland try The Carpenters Daughter (I think that's what it's called).

Try www.ezibuy.co.nz they have a plus size range called Sara - i have been buying bits and pieces that will be good for when my tum is bigger.

I still get confused how people can be 40 weeks pregnant and still a size 6 even with a stretchy waist band LOL! As cuppatea says it depends on what you mean by plus size. Unfortunately I'm bigger than a 20 so don't even consider a 20 to be a larger size lol.

I went to the warehouse last week and got a pair of shorts and 3 tops. The tops were on special at $10 each down from between 25-30. They were up to sizes 24-26 and swimming on me right now, so plenty of room for summer! They weren't maternity either, just large sizes. I have not seen any maternity clothes in stores that cater for larger women. Note, I have not seen them so not saying they don't exist.

I also have a friend who makes breastfeeding tops and being a bigger women herself accomodates for larger women with these tops. Not sure how big you mean by plus size but the new warehouse range goes up to size 20 and their sizes are pretty roomy as well. You need to go to one of their bigger stores though as they aren't at every warehouse.
