Author: Deez
Subject: 21185
Posted: 25 September 2008 at 8:26am

To make a baby you need to eat 18 broccolis
That's one six-year-old's take on the facts of life. As the Family Planning Association publishes a sex education pamphlet for six-year-olds to encourage early discussion of the facts of life, we ask five children what they know about where babies come from.
Amy- Where do babies come from?

Amy- Where do babies come from?
Image :1 of 5

Amy, 6: I think God makes babies, using a very special magic. They grow in a mummy's tummy. I think God rolls a dice, maybe, that's got hundreds of numbers on it. Each lady has a number, and if that number matches the number that is on the dice that God throws, the lady gets a baby growing in her tummy. I think ladies are pregnant for about a month and then the baby comes out of the tummy. I remember being in my mummy's tummy. It was lovely and warm inside.

Joseph, 7: Babies come from mummies' tummies which is where they get born. There is an egg inside the tummy and it cracks. The tummy decides if it's a boy or girl. It starts by making the head and then the rest of the body. The daddy helps the mummy look after the baby and he helps by sex. He gives the baby half the blood. One day when you are really in love, you say you are going to have sex and then you've made a baby.

Angus, 5: Babies come from the mummy and daddy. Inside the mummy's tummy, they go zoom - the two things. Whoever wins the race goes wuvavoovavoov, mixed up with the egg and then out pops the baby. Which one won the race? Did I win the race? Do they have eyes? I won't have any children. I don't want to put my willy in that secret hole.

Frederica, 6: They come from Mummy's tummy. They start like an egg. I'm not sure how the egg gets there to begin with. I think it comes from food. You eat lots of food, very healthy food, and that makes the egg. But you do have to eat very healthy food, even like 18 broccolis a week. The egg in the tummy grows bigger and bigger. Then the mummy goes to hospital and the doctor cuts open her tummy and she can see the little baby peeping out. There is a tube between the mummy and baby that feeds the baby before it is born, and then that turns into your tummy button. That's where they come from. Babies don't grow in the ground or come from the sea or anything. (What do daddies do?) You have to be married first before the baby comes. That's how you know to get a baby ready. Mummies have the baby and daddies get to choose the name. There are some differences between boys and girls. Boys have short hair and girls have long hair. Boys are tough and girls are girlie. Boys don't really like princesses. Boys and girls both have nipples. We don't really talk about things like this at school.
Related Links

    * The harmful mistakes of sex education in school

    * Horror over schools sex pamphlet for 6-year-olds

Multimedia

    * Alpha Mummy: What family campaigners want to teach children about sex is shame

Jessica, 6: The only thing I know about how babies are made is that the sperm joins up with the egg. I know the sperm comes from the father, and the egg from the mother. I think it happens because the people are near to each other. I don't know exactly what happens next. After this, the baby starts growing in the mummy's tummy. It stays there for nine months, gets bigger and starts to kick. The baby and the mummy are joined together by a cord that gets cut when the baby comes out. After nine months, the mummy goes to hospital and the people take the baby out of her tummy. I was the wrong way round. I know that some babies come out a different way, but I'm not sure how.

    * Have your say

I think that its good to let younger generations know the facts, but not that young. Okay so its natural and to be expected, and even in the way of religion (If it wasn't wanted, we wouldn't be give the choice) but kids are still kids, and we take away innocence when we burden them like that.

Joy, Swansea,

I think Jessica's parents deserve an award. This child has not been filled with made up stories that protect the parent(s) from embarrassment but serve no purpose. She has been given factual information that reflects her age, maturity and innocence. WELL DONE HER PARENTS!!

Laura, Brentwood, Essex

This is disgusting. And we wonder why our children are becoming more sex-obsessed than ever. Here's an idea, how about telling them to be decent, moral, and ethical people? How about raising the next-generation Gods way instead of sacrificing morality? May God help us if we reject family values.

Charles J, NJ, USA
