I relief teach. My son is booked into Daycare for 3 days a week, and I just said to the school that these are the days I can relieve. Many of the teachers follow that and book their CRT days with me on days that suit me. Sometimes I will get the odd ph call asking me to go in and if it is on one of the three days then yes, if it is not then no sorry. Yeah Jack goes to care but its 9-3 and I have another job that I go to but definitely an option.

DH can't take sick days as they don't allow them in the army unless you're practically dying.

Also, another lady at work has her toddler in a PORSE home carer situation. I think from memory she has to have a minimum of 12 hours, so he's in from 8.30 - 3.30 Wed and Thurs. I have my MIL look after Coop for my one day a week BT release job.

If I get rung for extra relieving (and if I can be bothered doing it ) I have an agreement with another friend from school who is also on Maternity leave, we'd "swap" babies and do a day each. This has worked well, is there anyone at the school that is also on Maternity leave you could set it up with? Or even just another teacher friend with a child?

I've also had DH take a sickie so I can go relieve. He has about a million sick days up his sleeve so it's not too bad!

Not that it's much help to you Emz but Liam's daycare have casual spots but it's $20 an hour
so it's not something you'd want to be doing too often. This is Auckland though.

I'm not sure about your area but in Wellington many of the childcare centres keept a certain number of spots per day open for casuals.  It costs a fraction more.

Just wondering what you do with your kidlets?

I've been visiting a friend of mine today (was my associate teacher last year when I had my last section before graduating - Primary teacher) who is going to flick some relieving work my way next year. I am really REALLY keen as I adore the school and would love for it to lead to permanent employment down the track (that's the only way you get a job at that school pretty much).

Problem being obviously I have a child who can't come with me (if only!). He goes to daycare twice a week as of Jan but only 9-3 and I *could* ask my day to sit for us every once in a while but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it every week. I have a friend that *might* be interested if it was once a fortnight or something, but it would only be worthwhile doing relieving if I could do it at least once a week.

Are there any places that have casual child minding services that don't cost the earth? Like do PORSE or anything like that have on-call systems, or am I just completely dreaming that there's such a thing?
