to be honest, i don't mind the adverts. if i had the money, i'd definately get some surgery!!! i've been working hard out at the gym for 4mths now and am just starting to see some progress. but my lower saggy belly will always be there because it always has........

I actually didn't even look at the ads until I saw this thread.

I'd probably have surgery to stop my boobs sagging so much after I've had all my kids if I could afford it

They do have different lighting and quality with the before and after shots but they do that on all forms of beauty advertising, especially on tv.

ahhh showed hubby and he said they may be photoshopped but they have definitely used different lighting to make the after shots look better. over exposed he said.... whereas they havent done the same with the before shot...

and those pics look very photo shopped to me and i hate using false images in advertising...

This is something i always wondered , about a form of advertising ....the cigarette packs that have the "you are not the only one smoking this cigarette " and the pic of the preggy lady on the front..if men get that pack , do they ...look at their tummys and feel guilty ?

I too was surprised to see the ad...I was like "what is this ad for??" But it didnt bother me at all....I dont care! I know many ppl out there get PS done and yay for them.

I had a overhang from DD and can see its gonna only get worse with this one...I lost loads of weight but coulnt get rid of the overhang. I always joke to DH that I will win lotto and get PS done to get rid of it. Having said that DH has no complains and DD always says "you beautiful Mama"...that gives me more confidence than any PS can give me!!

You take each ad as you want to...I hate some ads on TV but hey there are just ads...ignore them if they dont apply to you. Thats JMHO.

Does anyone else think it says "plastical surgical masters" instead of "plastic surgical masters"? Or is it just me? It's been really bugging me.

It's not really any different to the Huggies ad IMHO - that could be offensive if you are an MCN user, can't afford to use Huggies or are loyal to another brand?

If you lose lots of weight through exercise and diet you do feel more confident in yourself.

But I can see how women already feeling low about themselves and the changes in their body could see this as just another message being driven home that they're not that perfect woman.

Personally the ad doesn't bother me and I know many others disagree with this but if I could afford stomach surgery to flatten out my stomach and get rid the "apron" I would in a heartbeat and yes it would make me feel more confident again.

No amount of exercise will get back my abs the way the were so heck yeah I'd consider the surgery!

Haha - yeah, I said later the marketing guys were probably rubbing their hands in glee at all this talk about the ad. What I meant was that I don't think they've really got the best target market by advertising on here - I wonder if they did much of a demographic check as (anecdotally) not many people here seem to have plastic surgery as an option financially. Talk is all well and good but I don't know how much business they'll actually get out of it.

And the whole 'get your confidence back from plastic surgery' angle doesn't really sit right, as Emz has said.

i really don't care. i was surprised to see the ad and not surprised to see this thread to be honest, but i, while want to lose weight for health reasons, am not too bothered by it. I think i am probably heavier than I have been for a while, and completely happy with my body more so than for a while.

belly flap, c-sect scar , saggy boobs and stretch marks.
They're all a sign of the 2 beautiful babies I have now.

Even if I had the money to get surgery I wouldn't change a thing.

I just dislike the insinuation that having cosmetic surgery will make me feel confident again.
But that's just a general opinion I have rather than directed at that ad.

The ad doesn't bother me as such, I just think it's a bizarre ad for a website for parents. It was the first thing that caught my eye when I opened the page this morning .... so I guess the designer did their job right and the surgeons are getting their $$ worth

Personally, I just think it's a bit crass, flashing pictures of girls in their knickers and saying they feel so much more "confident" now that they've had surgery... I don't buy it!

I dont really like the ad myself.
But then again I gues it is just an ad....

ETA- I have had a think about this, ok, yes, I dont like the ad, I think something to help women lose weight more realisticly would be more tastefull, BUT in saying that, there are women out there who would want to go down the plastic surgery road if they were really really down about their body.
I know my mum, after having breastfed 4 babies, doesnt like he boobs cos they are very saggy and have no "fat" left in them(this is what she told me, I havent seen them lol) and she would LOVE to have boob job to put them back to where they used to be. She is extremly down about her boobs.

So I guess, if they do an ad for losing weight by exercise and stuf, then why ot have one for plastic surgery, if you can afford to do it then why not!

Hehe good point usually they have it the other way round, yuk stuff for before and nice black lingerie (what a hard word to spell!!) after shots..
They have obviously done what they set out to do though. Advertising is advertising, positive or negative, they got everyone talking about it....

I think what people might be getting at is that a lot of people may see it as 'oh, THAT'S how I get my self esteem back'. I'm sorry, but I think its disgusting for any surgery to be advertised as looking good on the outside will not ifx all of your problems on the inside. Trust me, I've been there and I still have the same issues as I did pre-surgery (this wasn't plastic surgery, was reconstructive).

And anyway, I would never use a surgeon that advertised on the net and tried to score business that way. The best surgeons aren't even advertised anywhere IMHO.

I have no comment on the ad but do have one about body image after kids.

I always think:
...if I had been told that it was 100% certain that I would have a huge flap of unwanted skin, stretchmarks and no boobs (the no boobs bit is the bit that's happened to me) after having a child, would I have had one?

I all of us would answer YES!

Don't know about you, but thinking that automatically helps put it all in perspective...our kids are worth it. Chins up ladies!

I thought it was interesting that it is there.....as in good on you ohbaby for taking a risk. I can see how people can be offended but personally it doesnt bother me. I LOVE seeing before shots as it shows me that others have the same probs as me. For some reason I dont really care about the after shots. I just want to see all the "bad" bodies as it makes me feel normal.

It was the first thing that loaded on the page for me so couldn't miss it! I actually think it's really bad placement by the company, although us all talking about it means it's getting noticed so their marketing people are probably reading these threads and enjoying the extra attention it brings to their business.

I don't like the ad and I have a big problem with the perception in society that we should all strive for the 'perfect body' after having kids. That ad is one small part of a much bigger problem, and I don't enjoy seeing it flashing on my screen every time I go to a new forum page.

That said, OHBaby! is a business and they're here to make an income. They can sell advertising to whoever they want and I can see how the plastic surgery ad hits a certain target market here. My values don't come into it.

I can't afford plastic surgery but it's something one day I wanna get done on my boobs (reduction) and I'm hoping to get it done publicly for medical reasons.

I think that plastic surgery is something a lot of people would persue if they could afford it.
Unfortunately, not everyone can.

For me, I wouldn't consider it. I go to the gym 4 times a week. Every kg I lose gives me more encouragement to continue and as my fitness increases I feel better about myself. My sense of self is coming back, as is my love for my body.
I still have wobbly bits, and am a size 12, but I haven't felt sexier in a long time.

Personally, I feel working for your ideal body shape would give more satisfaction than having the fat sucked out. At the end of it all, you have to keep up a healthy lifestyle to maintain the plastic surgery results.

After that novel, I don't really see a problem with the ad, as fattartsrock said, OHBaby is a business and need to operate as one, so let them have their ad (and funding) so their awesome website can keep going

mmm I don't like it and think it's bad taste to have it advertised here. Even if it was elsewhere on the site rather than flashing as me while I read the forums I'd be happy

However having said that I have a strong dislike for all plastic surgery ads regardless of where they are but that's just my opinion.

But as fattartsrock said, OhBaby is a business and I guess whoever pays for the advertising space has a right to occupy it.

It's JUST an ad, and the purpose of that ad is not to make you feel bad. Not intending to offend here, but your self images issues are your issues, not Oh Babies. They are a business and need to operate as one. Its the same (IMHO) as being offended by formula or breastfeedign ads. Plastic surgery is a part of life today, and yup, I would have it in a heartbeat.

Yeah no way I could afford it even if I wanted it - am also not enjoying seeing that ad on every page.
Yet more pressure to look a certain way, as if there isn't enough of that on TV, in magazines and everywhere else. I want to love my post baby body when it happens, stretch marks and all that jazz are normal parts of it, so yeah it doesn't seem like the right kind of ad for here, but oh well!

I'm going to be the overly sensitive one and say that personally I find the ad brings me to tears. I have body issue problems and going through pregnancy then the after effects on the body is mentally hard, I try to embrace my "mummy" body shape but that ad sure doesn't help.

I had reconstructive surgery recently (medical reasons) on my boobs but it doesn't fill me with that much confidence and I don't need to be reminded about my imperfections every time I come on here. Just another hypocritical thing I guess, this place is supposed to be about empowerment and support not appealing to those with no self esteem and lots of money (head count of how many of us have enough money to go and get plastic surgery?!)

i was just thinking that too! although there are a lot of women out there that do put body image on the top of the list for their self esteem and with all those tv programs telling us that surgery is the only way to go, im not that surprised they are trying to reach the mummy market. i would get new boobs if i could afford it!

Funny, there is another thread on this too. Have to admit I feel like you and was a little gutted to see that Ohbaby had used an ad like this.

I'm a little disappointed to see the top add on OB at the moment is for plastic surgery, with a slogan of how plastic surgery made her "feel confident again". What happened to love your body, being proud of your mother shape. I know that adds bring in money but that's certainly not one I want to see, especially at the top of every page!
