For Kiya's first birthday, we had a teddybear's picnic afternoon tea at a playground... with watermelon and cake to eat and lots of water to drink.

For Blair's first b'day we had it at mcDonalds. It was good becuase the play ground it right there and we got our own little room to have lunch and open prezzies it was a good day.

for Brianna's first birthday we had a nice luch at my sisters house with all the family it was great and didn't cost to much and Brianna had a fun day and got spoilt and i think that all that matters.

So im guessing i will do something easy..we got quite a big backyard as we have jus moved an YAY now baby got his own room!!!!!I like the idea of the book thing sounds great as they can look back at it when their older an stuff maybe just take a picture of every one thats goes to the birthday and have the picture in the middle of the page that way the kid might be able to remember who was their and every1 would have their own page to write an draw on i think that would be great for the little ones!!!If anyone has anymore great ideas about first birthdays plz let me no.Ive kinda got an idea of what to do now

We had mostly adults there as I figure the first birthday is us parents surving the first year of parenthood, the rest of the parties can be for the kids

Ella had two of her friends there (invited a couple more but they were sick) and I borrowed a ball pool from my friend.. the kids just played in that and ran around a little bit, they had lots of fun. For Jake's second and taine's first, I'm planning to do face painting. I used to do it to fundraise in taumarunui when I went to japan for school, so I'm not too bad at it.
With Jake's first, I made a cake and just invited people and their kids over. I gave the older kids a disposable camera each and they went around shooting pics, and gave the smaller kids some balloons, bubble mix and stickers. they loved it.
Simple things may sound boring, but they will be what your baby will love. Anotehr idea someone on this board had, which I stole, was to have everyone ath the party sign a book to say happy birthday. I put the book on a table with a bunch of felts and people drew pictures and stuff. Caitlyns birthday is in winter as well so no bbq, for her 1st we hired (well it didnt cost us anything) our church play group hall, so we had a big room and a kitchen to prepare the food (fairy bread,sausage rolls etc) and we could get the toys out-so there were dolls and slides etc -it was great! she had a very cool time

Next year (for her 5th) im going to have a BIG party at home and either hire old mcdonalds travelling farm or get a bouncy castle

We hired Maya's daycare centre for the day (Saturday) and had about 50 or so people, mostly my friends and their kids as Maya didn't have any friends as such at that age.
We just did finger foods like fairy bread, sausage rolls etc. The kids loved it.
One thingw e did spend $$$ on for her first birthday was her present - Willie and I went halves on buying her a greenstone. It cost us $280 but it is something she can keep forever, and we wanted her firstbirthday present to be special.

If you have a big backyard may be you can hire some slides and swings and jumping castles to keep the kids entertained....only ofcourse if there are other small kids coming to your BBQ. A frind of mine hires a clown who kept the kids busy as well as the parents....I must admit was fun.

My son is 9 months old and is very active as in nearly walking.Hes crawling and walking holding on to everything and talking.I have no idea what to do for his first birthday.There will be about 50 or so people but i want to do sumfing that he will enjoy but something thats not gonna cost me a arm an a leg because im teen mother with not much money.I was thinking maybe a b.b.q or something but thats boring.Does anyone have any ideas or would you like to share what you guys done for your childs fist birthday as its a very special day
