Thanks Deb. However Elle doesn't get up or even sit up (so I can't put her back to bed as she is already in bed, tucked up, no lights on), doesn't play with any toys (it is all in her imagination). The less sleep she has in the day the more she is awake at night.

Lately we've been putting her down to nap at 1.30 or 2 then getting her up at 4 or so and she's been sleeping through. It seems at the moment that the longer and later the nap the better she sleeps. i haev a friend who used to get so tired he would fall asleep & then wake. or so we thought. he seemed to have three different personalities that came out (Yes it was weird!) but one personality was comedy & he was hilarious & one of them was serious & the third was GREAT at giving advice!~ i remember sitting with him on a couch asking advice bout a relationship about the guy i was talking to. lol. weird i know, but i was talking to his alter ego. yet in the morning you could ask him & he would knwo absolutely nothing about it! They also walk around & he used to sing songs etc too. There was no way of knowing that he was actually asleep as he would go toilet, get a drink etc, everything normal!

Maybe you should ask your dr about it fiona? They may have an idea how to tell if it's sleep waking or not... ok i asked my mum and she said i wasnt as coherent or aware as i was when awake. she also had some advice when i told her what elle does.

so from my mother:
put her back to bed and tell her its not play time and do it repeatedly until she got the message. and if you are awake anyway then you have nothing to lose really.

peachy im a BIG sleep talker too, lol and i have let out big BIG secrets to my mum about friends etc when i was a teenager.

dh and my mum & friends said i apear as normal looking around laughing etc dh said he even sometimes says " are you even awake" and ill stare strait at him and scowl and say "of course im awake "
now he laughs that i can scowl in my sleep.

I sleep talk BIG time, so much so that I wake DH up just about every night and according to him what I talk about is totally normal conversation and he's sometimes never sure if I am actually awake or sleep talking!

Anyone can hold a conversation with me during my sleep and I will talk and respond "logically" to them. DH has often started up a conversation with me during the night as has my Mum if I am staying at her house and she hears me talking in my sleep. How embarrassing, I could let out some deep dark secrets by accident!!

So you guys who talk in your sleep...do you seem 100% awake i.e. maintain eye contact, follow instructions and interact in exactly the same way as when you are awake?

Sounds pretty odd to me...are you sure you're not awake and then forgetting about it? im a weird adult i used to do that as a kid to but . . i still do it!!
i will answer the phone , text, talk to people have lengthly conversations for hours with dh in the middle of the night and ill be fast asleep!
a few weeks ago i answered the phone and told a workmate id work for them "yes no worries ill work for you today" i said then dh grabbed the phone and tried to explain that i couldnt and i was talking to them in my sleep.
i even get up and make coffee

I used to sleep walk and talk to the extreme...I once walked out of the house, and up the road and knocked on a neighbours (5 doors up) front door and asked as clear as day "Is my mummy here?"...apparently the neighbour was completely freaked out and took me home. After that my parents put a huge bolt on the front door really high up so I couldnt reach it.

A little bit odd lol but thats actually quite cute! At least she is happy Poor thing I hope she comes right soon, its so not fun being sick!!  And not for mummy either!

Yeah, she is definately awake...wide awake. I'm certain. :) If you go in she smiles and cuddles and interacts.

Her falling asleep process is noisey too and she does that at the end of her celebrations.

Gabrielle currently has a high fever, ear infection, cold and some tummy issues. During the day she has been really upset and clingy needing regular pamol. She hasn't eaten for over 2 days (other than a marshmallow!)

Last night she was really unsettled and cried every 30mins between 7pm and 10.30pm.

Then at 11pm (her new party time since daylight saving - *sigh*) she woke, squealed and giggled at the absolute top of her lungs as per usual for 4 solid hours!!!!

Then she woke unhappy again at 7. After some pamol she was churpy again though.

It is like she transports to a magical land in the middle of the night. No matter how sick or tired she is she has a party! She never cries, even if in pain - just has a ball. Soooooo weird!
