We took colouring in activities and lots of raisins to keep them occupied but there was also a slide-show at one point which was helpful too. They were actually really good but we still had to make a mid-funeral exit for toilet stops/nappy changes We did sit up the front - it was important to me because it was my grandma - but if the relation was not as close, I would sit closer to the exit. You could sit half-way down though, on the side, for a quick exit. But I think with Andrew's age, you'd probably be ok at the front if you wanted to.

Blimmin Army!!

I took Ella to her G-grandma's funeral a couple of months ago. It worked out fine, though she and I took off and sat out the back pretty early on in the piece. We'd been up the front with DH, but Ella was very fidgety climbing over us, and was excited to see her relatives up there too, and started yelling across the aisle to her Poppa saying 'Hello Pop!' and asking where his dog was (he usually brings the dog around to see her). It was embarrassing walking out after that, but the staff there were brilliant, had a box of toys to keep her quiet-ish, even another room with sound from the funeral. And lots of the oldies there commented that it was nice to see a little child at the ceremony. Most importantly, the bereaved G-grandad was glad she'd been there.
