Yes, HOUSEWORK DOES SUCK! For me its just the lesser of 2 evils - I hate mouldy laundry and strange lifeforms breeding in my dirty dishes more than i hate the housework itself - but make no mistake - I do hate the housework!! Yeah Bec the little toad got out the gate one night and went to see his dog mate over the road got hit by a car. At first they thought he had massive bleeding and could drain it but he had ruptured all his tummy muscles and all his insides where just foating around. His tummy was massive. Anyway they said they could operate but only had a 50% chance tops to fix it and that he would prob have a diff temperment and take months to heal and also would cost between $800-$1200 on top of his vet stay already. So after talking to the vet and getting her advice she said it wuold be kinder to put him to sleep. I had him cremated and have his nice little box watching us in the lounge. The boys take him for walks and give him the odd shake up lol.
I was really upset though bawled for days. I absolutely hate housework. We used to have a cleaner a few years ago and it was absolute heaven. well heres my 10cents worth

Cant say I ever enjoyed it that much but didnt overly hate it . I used to pump up the sounds and just go hard. I did used to have a   major clean once a week and huge satisfaction from a clean house.
I hate cleaning other lazy peoples mess. In fact it really pees me when you have lazy flatmates/other half that make at least half the mess and dont bother to help!!
Anyway now I absolutely hate it and I have put it down to the boys being tornados and wrecking havoc behind me. I swear I vacuum and you wouldnt believe me unless you saw it. Boys = mess!!!!
Also the boys LOVE to help with the folding the vacuuming the dishes ... anything really.
An Im quite an impatient person so i get abit annoyed. Now i find I do it mostly when they are having a nap or in bed for the night which annoys me as thats sposed to be my time out.
But me pet hate is ironing. I will do it for anyone!Have never done it for ex boyfriends (well if I have it was a minor slip up!!! )
Re the dog thing - i had a dog who was sadly put to sleep on the 3rd April ( ) and I never realised how much he cleaned up after the boys until he was gone. No wonder he loved the boys so much lol

Okay, I do the housework because it needs to be done. Not because I enjoy it. Its on the top of my LEAST favourite things to do.

I can't stand vaccuming, moping, scrubbing, laundry, dishes... I think they all suck. But if I didn't do them, who would?

I have attempted to leave little things like a pile of DF's clothes on the floor instead of picking them up and washing them like I normally would, JUST to see if he would eventually move them.
I have left a few dishes on the bench to see if he will eventually clean them.
I have left bathroom towels on the floor for a few days to see if he will eventually move them.

NO!

So what choice do I have other than to just clean myself. I just thought I'd share this little gem that happened this morning ...it might give some of you a smile.

The husband came home from work and went to grab a contained of yoghurt out the fridge - it was about half full (one of those 1kg containers). Anyway - he dropped it. Splat. Right on the kitchen floor, and up the oven, and up the cupboards ...Anyway! I just looked up from my breakfast and said "That's going to be a b*tch to clean up - the spray and wipe is in the pantry." He just looked at me, and called "DOGS!!" both of whom came running - he pointed to the yoghurt, and five minutes later announced that he was "Done!" with his cleaning. Blimmin heck. Ok i saw this topic WAY after the fact... But in our house David does a "clean up" if the hosue is messy (which its almost always is!) but that consists of washing to laundry (or on top of the clean washing waiting to be folded), any paper or "junk" goes into the cupboards and that is about it!!
Daily I go around the house open curtains and windows and make beds, do the dishes, vacum at least one room a day (got a $800 vacum cleaner but hate it!) then do dinner. Try and do the washing but lose hope now as the puppy jumps up and pulls it all off the line ...
I hate housework with a vengance - think arna enjoys cleaning more then me, she will occassionaly put rubbish in the bin (the wipe she just pulled out of the packet) or wipe down the windows / table (with her wipe out of the packet) etc etc!! Yes ...I know what you mean Erin! Case in point - he's anal about his vacuuming, so he'll sit there at night and pull bibbi-bids (no idea how to spell it) and sticks and things out of our border collie's hair (we take the dogs to the park at night, and she always brings half of it home with her! Luckily, the other monster is short-haired), and then gathers it all up and hides it behind the couch so he doesn't have to walk to the rubbish bin! Apparently, this means that he can vacuum it up whenever he next does the vacuuming, and 'no one can see it behind the couch so it's ok!' First, I'll tell you a funny story that happened last week ....

My dear, dear hubby had spent a couple of days dumping his filthy smelly clothes on the bathroom floor (I refused to pick them up because I had PMT ) and after a gentle prod from yours truly, he toddled off to clean them all up. Imagine my surprise when he goes into the bathroom, gathers everything up, and then walks into the bedroom and dumps it on the floor in the corner of the room!! I said 'what are you doing?' and he said 'tidying up the bathroom' with a look of astonishment on his sweet wee face as if to say ...couldn't you tell? I blinked at him for about half a minute before pointing out that the laundry was the same distance (in the opposite direction) from the bathroom as the bedroom! I'd have killed him there and then, but he's a big lad, and I couldn't be bothered digging a hole big enough to stick him in ...so I went with bursting into uncontrollable giggles

Right. Now for the housework. Oh boy. I actually quite enjoy my housework . My biggest problem is that I have 2 dogs who undo it faster than I can keep up with them. Monsters! Things are pretty even in our house though as far as it goes - Al mostly does the vacuuming as he is completely anal about dog hair and junk in the carpet. If he hasn't done it for a couple of days, I can see him looking at the floor and twitching We have pretty much determined that there is a 'boy clean' and a 'girl clean' eg. We have lino in the entranceway, bathroom and toilet which is a bit textured, and the dirt sticks to it something terrible. Al will run a mop over it, but actually what it needs is for someone to get down on all 4s with a scrubbing brush and do it cinderella style!

Oh, and I ....uh ...um ....shine the toaster and the sink because I think they look nice sparkly

... that is so funny, aimeejoy!! 'Cause my husband has read these posts and now thinks that they prove his point, that more women than men actually enjoy housework (since there's a lack of men saying that they have to admit they like it)!! I'm stubbornly sticking to my - 'we're not more likely to enjoy it, we are just much more likely to do it' stance no matter what!!!

While there's exceptions to the rule I do think that women are socialised to take care of domestic duties more than men are, and that as a society, we don't value this work as much as it's really worth. Not that I'm saying my husband doesn't value it - no gripes there!

Hi
Im not that keen on doing house work but I love a clean house. I dont hate cleaning though - and I do feel like Ive achieved something when its finished. My husband likes everything tidy, so I always get stuff out and make a mess he always puts it away, but Im sure he has never cleaned the toilet - that - doesnt bother him - I think thats weird, myself.

So we share, he vacuums and tidies, and I clean. I think i prefer to do it myself so I know its done.

I HATE it too! I'm like a few others - hubby works so the housework becomes my 'job' I used to be super-clean freak, but have relaxed a bit these days. House is always tidy, but not necessarily clean. OK...I am a clean freak so I like to clean...not because I enjoy it but because I wont have the house any other way. However since I had Zaara (and she is a demanding little miss) some one has to constantly keep her company...or atleast she has to see where you are (Arrrgggg) so my hubby (who is also a clean freak) has offered to do the house work so that all I do is cooking/ironing and looking after Zaara. I will clean the toilet if I'm REALLY bored, but usually hubby does that coz I reckon most of the stains are his I don't mind doing the dishes most of the time, we have a dishwasher too and I'd be lost without it !!! Hubby usually takes care of the big trays and stuff, but everything else I do - can't *stand* a messy kitchen. I hate housework but do love having a tidy house. I dont think hubby has ever cleaned a toilet, apparently the toilet fairy does it when we are asleep. We both hate the dishes, thank god for the dishwasher but trays and pots can sit around for days. my partner does all the housework because he can't stand being in a messy house. the odd sock on the ground doesn't bother me but he gets all uptight about it...

so I let him do all the housework and the trade off is I do all the cooking (it's really great to be able to turn the kitchen into a bombsite when cooking and have someone else clean it up afterwards!)

although I do maintain that even though he does all the cleaning, I do a much better job when I do it :)

I Hate Housework. Im a SAHM and do all the housework and hate it. I hate vaccuming every day and cleaning and wiping. ohhhhh I hate it all! I keep telling DH that when i go back to work we are getting a cleaner. I don't mind housework I figure that if hubby is out working all day the least I can do is keep the house clean and do the washing and stuff. Besides i do a way better job then him anyway he is so hori with it and only does half the job.

Some housework I do actually enjoy, but I must say I'm more one of the sort of women that derive more satisfaction from the result than the actual work. That said I don't hate it, I just hate how much there is of it !! Okay, for my two cents - I HATE HOUSEWORK!!!! With a vengance. I am planning to work, just to pay a cleaner to come round and do the jobs i hate (i.e. everything). My husband doesn't like housework either. I must say though, my SIL enjoys housework - she said it relaxes her.
I think you will find however, more women than men that enjoy the cleanliness of a house. Most men could liev in a squalor, but most women couldn't. It doesn't mean we enjoy cleaning, but we do enjoy the effects more. Well, thats my humble opinion anywy. Must go and hang washing now. A little bit more... hubby explained that what he meant by "women enjoy housework more than men" is that: "You will find more women than men, who enjoy housework".

My husband and I had an interesting discussion today - he believes, and I quote here, that "WOMEN ENJOY HOUSEWORK MORE THAN MEN"!!!

We both also think that if we asked around a lot of women, they'd only validate our own opinions on the topic! So I thought - what better way to canvas what women really do think, than a quick survey here?? BRILLIANT! So, ladies (and gentlemen if any are out there...) your opinions, please! PLEASE comment on how you feel about housework - what you do, why you do it, how you feel about it. You'll be doing the world (OK, just whoever reads this) a huge service!

I'll quickly rant about where I'm coming from...
Needless to say, I don't agree with hubby's stance on this one! I take care of the housework in our house because I have a health condition (M.E.) that prevents me from working much (I work one short day a week now in my job), and he supports the 2 of us by working full-time. It just makes sense for me to take care of the domestic stuff, and with a baby on the way and no signs of improving health, we've sealed that deal for many years to come!

The thing is, I don't enjoy doing any housework (shock, horror!). I do it because it needs to be done, and grumbling my way through it would just make it worse. I don't like to scrub the toilet, I don't enjoy emptying the trash, I don't get my kicks from vaccumming, and I really hate doing the dishes every night. I like the end result - I like a clean house, and even better - I like the absense of piles of laundry, grime, dirty dishes, and dust. But I DON'T ENJOY the housework itself!!!

We've both proven in previous years that we're both capable of taking care of a house, and both capable of financially supporting ourselves with work. I found it much easier to be satisfied with my work in general when I was able to work more (in paid employment) and the housework was something shared between flatmates. That said, neither of us can change the way things are for us for now, so this is the best we can do, and we make the most of that. It works. And I do see the up-side to my 'at-home' lifestyle - can't deny that for a minute!
