Jake actually wasn't fond of it. we got one qhen he was four months, but by the time it got over to us, he was about six months. He was just crawling at that stage and it seemed like the jumper limited him to just one place, as opposed to everywhere that he wanted to be. However, we got him an exersaucer and he LOEVD that! We've just bought taine one, i posted apic somewhere on the site. We had Joey in his from about 5 months. i hated caitlyn walking at 10months...it was the start of her not being a baby and my friends daughter walked at 8mths and she (my friend not her daughter) rang to , well, gloat cos she "bet" caitlyn by 2 months (cos yeah apparently its a competition) and i was like "has she? oh poor u"

jack loved his jolly jumper too! i was a naughty mum and would leave him in there until he got sick of it, which was usually longer than 15mins

"Jodi Cooper, a physiotherapist with Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre’s Outreach - One of the first items up for discussion was baby exercisers (commonly referred to as Exersaucers) and Jolly Jumpers. Ms. Cooper said current recommendations advise parents not to put their babies in one of these devices before they are six-months-old, and when they are used, to limit the time to 15 minutes. The age requirement is in place as sitting balance should be acquired before use of an Exersaucer or Jolly Jumper. There is no evidence that suggest these apparatuses promote early walking despite marketing claims."

Poor Charlotte- we cut her off by 5 minutes! Ah well, she was another 10 month old walker (I walked at 9 months so maybe it slowed her down! at my friends 21st her mum and her mums friend were (drunk) and remenicising (sp?) about how they used to leave the kids in the jolly jumpers and go have coffee on the porch...and so they thought it would be really fun to stand under the doorway at my mates 21st jumping up and down like they were in jolly jumpers....

I put Sam in from about 4.5 months, he was/is however a big strong baby.

I think there are many theories out there about Jolly Jumpers both positive and negative.

I am a big fan personally of them as Sam just loved his and it provided me with many hours of sanity and him enjoyment.

My best mate back in Aussie is a day care mum and they are banned within her home care service. There is also a lot of negativity about them in Aussie and they are very rarely used.

So I would say what works best for you. Maya was in hers from 3 mths too, and she loved it. I think I started off with maybe 10-15 minutes, but when she was a bit older she would stay in if for ages. We used it until she was about 8 mths because by then she would jump so hard she would double back and hit the doorframe. She walked at 10mths as well.

My only word of warning - be careful how you put bubs in and out. The first day we used it I undid the clips wrong and Maya fell back onto the wooden floor. ooops im naughty then cos im sure caitlyn was in it for a lot longer than that! tut tut kelly *shakes head at self*

however in saying that, she did start walking the day she turned 10mths and by 12mths was running-upright as well hehe.
Shes never had any trouble with posture -(except she thinks shes the bloody queen of sheba and walks around with this hoity toity expression)
But of course every child is different.

I had heard that any longer than 10 minutes a day is bad. The jolting from the jumping is really hard on their backs and they aren't supposed to be in that position for any extended legnth of time as it isn't a natural position for them to be in.

Plunket recomends you wait till they can pu their feet flat on the floor, and hold their head well, not before 5 months they say?
They are a god send, though Jacob loved his, sadly he is a little to big for it now, but we used it the same as Kat. I wouldn't be putting him in it yet, he's far too young!! Sorry to sound harsh but they are designed for babies aged at least 4 months+
