Also if shes not drinking alot at a time offer her it off a spoon every couple of minutes - I had to do this with Brooke when she was around that age as she got really sick and dehydrated.

    Author: Maya
Subject: 21729
Posted: 17 October 2008 at 8:19pm

I'd avoid the formula too like the others have said.

My gremlins got rotavirus at 13 mths and ended up with nearly a week in hospital, the advice we were given then was no formula or solid foods while there was vomiting, only clear fluids. The ratio they use in hospital is 5ml per minute via syringe of either pedialyte or water depending on what they'll tolerate. The aim is to replace the amounts lost. If they'll take it from a bottle or cup then all good, if not then you pretty much have to hold them down and syringe it in

After the vomiting stops (at least 6 hours, preferably 12) try reintroducing some plain solids (such as the pear you mentioned). Once bub is tolerating that OK you can offer formula again.

A small percentage of babies develop temporary lactose intolerance after a tummy bug in which case soy would be a good choice until that resolves, but I'd check with your doc before trying that, and not until the vomiting has stopped.

Hope this helps, v and d bugs are awful!

I would avoid milk for now it's too rich for a sensitve tummy. and build up volume from there as she tolerartes it
Basically you put around 50mls of the drink and the rest water (around 80mls). It's a good way of getting sugar into the wee ones, and they quite enjoy the bubbles too. It does work, you just have to be patient.

Another option would be to use a syringe to get fluids into her or even a teaspoon. (if it gets that bad.) I wouldnt' be worrying about food for now.... wait until the bug settles and then slowly introduce food back into her diet.

Concentrate on getting her fluids up first. Good luck and I hope you get some sleep soon .

My 2 1/2 year old is now over it (except being terrified of going to bed, but that is whole other post ) but wee Sophie has now picked it up. The main problem is formula - she has kept 3 small serves of pureed pear down in the last 24 hours but yesterday morning and this morning she vomited the bit of formula I gave her straight back (only gave 100ml instead of 200ml). She is not too keen on taking water of electrolyte solution so I am worried about her fluid levels.

When Amy was about 11 months she had the D of the D & V and the Dr said to switch her to a soy formula for a couple of weeks. Any advice or opinions on doing this for a vomiting baby????

Sorry for rambling on - I am blaming the lack of sleep
