I had a Mitsi Lancer (1995 model) which was ok when Ash was in her capsule. The handle didn't go all the way back, but that was ok. However when she needed to go in a normal carseat (rearfacing), we found it didn't fit, even with the front seat pushed all the way forward. So we upgraded to a Ford Telstar station wagon. I been thinking when we have #4 we might have to change our car... and I am not one who likes people movers but I saw this one and thought thats exactly what we need as you can have it as a 6 seater, 5 seater or 4 seater.

Those cars sound fine!

When I first had Charlotte we had a ford focus 5 door (1.8L) which was fine for just one. We then got a Honda Station Wagon (2.5L) which was great with all the extra room but to be honest bigger cars usually have bigger engines and therefore cost more to fill up/run- so although it was great having excess room for things, it did cost us in petrol. I would hold out getting a bigger car until you really need to- hopefully they'll start releasing some family cars with smaller engines/hybrids by then!

We now have a Renault scenic which is great- its a bigger family size car but its only 1.8L so its the best of both worlds. Cheaper to run but with lots of room.

I have no idea what cars we are going to get when we come back- I was thinking a Toyota Prius for DH and something similar to our reanult here for our family car. Its just blimmin hard to find family size cars that don't have giant engines! Yep fleury you take a trailer! That's exactly what we'll be doing, especially since we take our cat too (don't ask lol) so the back seat will be filled with the furbaby and the big baby.

I have a Mazda sedan and its perfect - will be fine for 2 kids in carseats, and have even been able to fit a 9-yo in the middle (poor girl!). I have our buggy in the boot and we easily fit our fortnights groceries in there too.

DH has a Legnum Station wagon (leather seats yay) and it has heaps of room.

I really don't think that anyone really needs to upgrade unless you have a hatch that you find annoying (I know I couldn't even get Jack's capsule out of my friends one without tipping it over (obviously jack was out of it at the time lol) or one of those stupid little eco cars that fit 2 people only. Unless you have the money to go changing etc, you make do with what you have. We never even considered changing our cars, and we had another car - a wee mirage - that was perfect too. How do you get on with holidays?
We fill up the boot and the back seat with just the two of us, we'll need a trailer if we want to take the kids camping.

I found when I was nannying, it got difficult when I had to pick up the kids and their friends, as some cars only have a lap belt in the centre.

Eimear means strength and Aoife means beautiful I think. TBH we picked them because they are common Irish names (Aoife was 4th most popular in 2006) that we both love, and they feature in a lot of Irish mythology as well.

I have a Peugot 306 and LOVE it! It is 2 door (or do you call it 3 door?). It has been fine with DS and won't be changing it when #2 comes along. It has a odd shaped boot but I manage to fit in a P&T buggy in it (no one thought i would and I was determined too). I do my grocerys every 2 weeks so have heaps and must say i do use the front seat for extras that don't fit in the boot but even with 2 I will have a spare front seat.

Capsule fitted fine but couldn't put a rear facing car seat in it so he has been fwd facing for ages.

Am guessing you will be fine. Yay the scooter sarahbetha!! I have one and I absolutely it. It's quite fast and always shocks people at the lights. Sadly I have to sell it as DH doesn't think it's safe being on the road we live on. i had a mitsi mirage 3 door hatch it was horror trying to get capsule in and out with out waking baby, so we sold it.

 then dh gave up our family car the boy racer honda accord to me, and he now drives a scooter, which he loves during peak traffic and costs $6 a week to fill up.

HA - I love car shopping!! But that's coz I like to weazle free stuff out of people and give sales people stick. And I like to play with all the cars.

We have a Nissan Terrano, a Ford Falcon and a Mazda Atenza which I'm sure will all be fine; they have plenty of boot space.

Anyone I know with a smaller car and children has just learnt to make to.

We're quite lucky with our cars I think - I have a Mitsi Mirage 4 door sedan, about the same size as a Lancer which will do for whoever doesn't have the kids as the runabout car. DF has a Toyota Landcruiser which is HUGE, which will probably fit at least 3 car seats in the back (it fits 3 adults across the back seat with space left over) plus it fits 5 golf bags in the rear of it with plenty of room leftover, so prams will be no problem. We have a Ford XR6 and I love it, but with 3 kids could do with a bit of extra room!! DH swore he would never get a people mover or a station wagon but I think he has changed his mind, he was talking about a station wagon the other day and how it would be nice to have some extra boot space!  I think with one you should be fine!!

We have a Ford Focus station wagon which at a push the boot can take 2 sets of dive gear and the double buggy

On a recent trip to Taupo we ended up buying a roof rack to take the buggy but that's the only time we've been stuck for space.

I drive a mitzi lancer, and can't afford to upgrade so that will be the running around car for us.

In every car I've been shopping with Daniel I've managed to fit the stroller (big one) and all the shopping/groceries with no probs.

That's what I was mainly concerned about was the amount of 'stuff' that will be needed for each outing LOL

Sounds fine. I drive a Toyota Corolla and while the boot space is really limited, it fits one big pram. Ashlee's right into walking around now without a stroller so it'll be no issue for us when baby #2 arrives. I had a honda concerto 5 door hatch when Michaela first came along.  It was fine except that it didn't work when it rained  it served us well though, especially considering it was a free car.

After spending way too much on auto-electrician bills trying to sort out the issue we bought a nissan bluebird sss 5 door sedan last year.  My dad tried to convince us to buy a people mover but TBH we felt ridiculous driving one around with our little family.  The bluebird will serve us fine with 2 kids but when we start TTC #3 we'll look into buying a people mover because I prefer to have space between tired kids when they're strapped into the car.

I don't think you need to upgrade at all.

I drive a 92 toyota something (mummy brain just kicked in lol) sedan and it's fine. It will be fine with 2 car seats in it. I used to have a mitsi lancer and I'd say it would be fine.

I think you'll be fine. Our family car is a toyota altezza which is probably a similar size to the lancer? (I know nothing really about cars!) Fits a baby capusle without a problem in the middle back seat.

DF and I were talking last night about whether our current cars will suit once we have a bubba..mine is a 2001 Mazda Familia 5 door hatch and DF's is a Mitsi Lancer sedan

Do we need to look at upgrading before bubs comes along or will we be able to cope with these cars till at least #2?

What kind of cars do the mummies out there drive?
