I just always put Jack in his sunsuit (all in one swimsuit) but made sure he was wrapped up warm afterwards, we usually have a quick dip in the spa to warm up after the lesson. We are starting swimming lessons next week - Hayley will be a couple of days shy of 5 months old We are so looking forward to it...half hour classes.
The swim teacher suggested putting a wool bodysuit on underneath her swim suit to keep her warm, has anyone else done this? Hi,
read in the plunket book that it's best to wait till 6 months due to their ears not being fully developed or something like that, and risk of catching anything else???

I have only ever used cloth swim nappies. They even sell them at the Warehouse now. They pretty much look like little undies, lined and made from tog material. I have taken Oli since he was 3mths old and he loves it! the pools we go to have a special lesson pool that is kept nice and warm for the bubbas, but he used to get really cold getting out, so I would have to get him dressed really quickly!

Daniel could only stay in the pool for 20 mins max at 3 months so you have to weigh it up if its really worth it. Missy, there are HEAPS of threads on here about babies swimming search results

Seems like the consensus is you can take them to private pools after the 3 month jabs but you need to be careful about keeping them warm because I don't think they can regulate their body temps yet. Most public pools seem to say 6 months. Im pretty sure most places wont let u start swimming lessons until 6 months.
Personally I dont like the idea of chlorine, but thats mostly as I have sensitive skin and so does Isla. She started lessons at 6 months but we had to stop after 3 weeks cos her eczema got really bad and then infected from the water/chlorine.
If there was a salt water pool near us I would totally start early, well before 6 months.

You could ring your local pool and find out. Hi ladies,

When can u/did u start taking ur baby swimming @ a pool?
Jade LOVES water & it wud b cool 2 take her 2 our local heated pool so we can move around more than just in the bath.
My friend heard u can from birth, but that sounds 2 early 2 me.
