Oh and.... you can have as many or as few hours per day as you like. You just set up hours based around your time table and they work with that. Last year I had crazy things like 10-12 and then 2-4 on the same day and it isn't a prob. Also if you need late hours you can arrange that easily too. (But usually only if you have a class)

I can tell you allllll about the Vic Uni creche Ana!!
They do have a huuuuuge waiting list, I booked Hannah in before she was born and still couldn't get in. Then I rang Jean (the manager) because I was getting desperate and she let me in It's all about pleading!

And once you are in it's sweet... you can change hours etc providing they are available.

There are a few good things about the ECE services at vic, there are heeeeeaps of creches... one at law school and three at Kelburn (and they are just for students, there are separate staff centres). And the nursery creche, for 0-2, are separated as well, so the 0-1s are down the baby end and the 1-2s are down the toddler end (usually from when they start to walk, or can hold their own against the bigger ones!)

As I've already told you, they are really careful with food. It is self catering, so you have to organise the kidlet's food, but that means that they don't eat anything they are allergic to. Ana, you will defintely need to find out about the campus daycare. my girlfriend works for the one at massy - they have a eprcentage reserved for lecturers, a percetnage for full-timers, and a small percentage for part-timers and as Janine said, they fill up really quickly.

As for study - I love it and the work can be tough, but defintely NOT impossible to do with baby.

wow - with ours, you can book them into it BEFORE you start to study - as far as i know there is up to a 2 year waiting list for ours.. only siblings get in easier, of course.

Only problem with having your kid on campus is that in some places the campus creche (or whatever its called at that uni) fills up quite fast... oooh was also going to say that while student allowance is based on income and is taxable - student loan is not, also student allowance does not amount to much for those who are with a partner who works, married or not we looked into it and i would have only gotten $56 a week - so I get living costs on my student loan, which can be up to $150 a week and it is non-taxable etc.. does bulk up the student loan however. If you are studying then you definately should get some childcare assisstance as other have said dependant on Peter's wage. For instance at the moment, Mike is on around $30,000 and we are fully subsidised for both girls. worth looking into. plus you could get family assisstance through IRD since he would be the only one working, but again depends on how much he earns..

studying with kids takes a fair amount of wrangling - of your time, effort and finances.

If you are doing postgrad you could suck up to some lecturers and ask if they need any help marking? Easy work and the pay is good!

Or you know, your going to be living across the road from a qualified nanny, you could always hit her up and see if she'd do a couple of days a week for you at a cheaper rate, could save some on daycare then.....

New Horizons Second-chance Education and Training Awards
History or background of award
The New Horizons for Women Trust (Inc) was established to provide grants for women in New Zealand to develop their potential through education and training or to undertake research on issues relating to women.

You may be able to get the childcare subsidy if Peter earns less than $930 per week (before tax) ?!?

Depends entirely on your husbands income, Ana. If he is earning over a certain amount, then you don't qualify - and the threshold is rediculously low!
