I also heard that the whitetails eat the daddy long legs, hence them being quite dangerous. And the pest guy (Jo, I cant remember his name but will find out) said that where you see 1 whitetail, there will be another 3 getting around. One of our old flats was infested with them, I was always finding them. They don't spin webs, they simply hunt and eat anything they can. Apparently according to something I read, a whitetail was put in a shed and 2 months later, there was nothing living in there except the whitetail!

The love hiding in clothing (so shake your clothes out before putting them on). Yes its a long known fact that daddylong legs are very poisonous, but cannot bite us.

However, I do have to disagree with someones comment on the previous page about leaving daddylong legs as they eat whitetails, when infact its the other way around. And this is what can make a white tail's bite so bad; it all depends on their last meal. So whenever I see the daddylong legs have disappeared......well,.....its nobody's guess who ate it!

There has been much research into the effects of a white tailed spider bite and although often inconclusive there is plenty of evidence to suggest that some people do have radical reactions if bitten. It could be worse for if the Daddy's Long Legs spider could get its jaws into our skin for it would kill us. There is a theory that if a white tailed spider has eaten a Daddy's Long Legs just before it bites a person then the extremely toxic venom could be transferred.


The above is just some info I quickly googled to put on here.....but it has been known for a long time that white tails do eat daddylong legs.

We get the house sprayed every year, and it works really well!  We havent had it done yet this year but the flies that do come in circle around and then either go back outside or die on the windowsill.  We also get around the outside done as well, places like around the sandpit and around the outside windows where the nasty creepy crawlies like to hide!

I just rang DH in a fit of panic telling him how poisonous Daddy Long Legs are .. to which he laughed and said that there mouths were too ickle to bite us.

Daddy long legs are one of the most poisonous spiders but their fangs (sorry I can't remember the correct name) are so short they can't harm us.  You do need to make sure Issy doesn't squash one then rub her eyes or put her hands in her mouth as that can be dangerous but otherwise they're completely harmless to humans.  They're highly venomous to other spiders and bugs though and so well worth keeping around.

I've searched high and low on the internet and found people writing about what I have but no photos...

It's basically a square transparent plastic container on the end of a stick. The bottom of the container has a sliding trap door thing. My partner and I have both been bitten by white tails and its not nice at all.

In regards to the Miss Muffets Revenge, I've had a quick look at the site...but just wondered something. If it creates a barrier so spiders stay away from your home....what happens to the spiders that could already be inside your home?? They won't want to escape now will they? So do they just die, or just keep preying on you and your family? Ugh I hate spiders! I agree with leaving the odd (little) one around to eat the horrible horrible flies too though.

Ewwwww i hate spiders, and i hate to say this but white tails come in twos.

Where you find one you will find another.

We found one on our wall one night, we were watching a movie and i could see something moving got up and sure enough it was a whitetail.
Next night we were in bed, DF playing PS3, and i could see something moving accross the roof, and hell it was a HUGE whitetail, one of the biggest iv seen..

I don't mind them at all and got upset with DH last night for squashing an innocent little wolf-spider in our lounge - that little guy had happily lived there for weeks and didn't cause any trouble

But a whitetail??? KILL KILL KILL!! I got bitten by a white tail the other night... and now have a lovely enormous red welt under my arm It was in my jacket when I put it on and I felt a stabbing kinda pain (like a needle) so I ripped my jacket off and the spider crawled away!

DH took me to the A & E and they marked it (put a circle around it) and gave me a shot of something (sorry I can't find my notes right now) and told me to keep an eye on it and if it gets any bigger and grows a head like a pimple... to go back!! Today is day two and it hasn't grown any OR got a head, so I hope I don't have any adverse reactions from here

We get heaps of them so we have our house sprayed every year for spiders, insects and ants. Its great, they either die before they get near the house (there have been some rather large ones dead just outside the door) or they die pretty much as soon as they come inside. We get lots of whitetails, too.
We have swampy farmland over the back fence, so we're pretty susceptible.
We spray the outside of our house with Miss Muffet's Revenge twice a year. It's the best money we've every spent.
It doesn't kill the spiders, just deters them from approaching.
I've noticed a few wee spideys nestling under the eves again, so I think it might be time to put my brave shoes on and clean and spray the house.
(or maybe just get DH to do it).

Jo, you poor thing!! Glad you managed to get rid of it before Michaela saw it!

Urgh, I have a couple of scars on my legs where I was bitten by a white tail a couple of years ago. I hate the damn things.

Tonight I was making DD's lunch for tomorrow. I put my hand into the bag of apples sitting on our bench and pulled one out for her. Then out of the bag crawls this big black spider. I totally freak out and freeze while this thing crawls around the bench. DP thinks its the funniest thing thats happened this week. He finally stopped laughing and killed the damn thing. I was convinced it was some sort of poisonous foreign spider. I saw a spider on the ceiling of our lounge this morning while I was on my way out.  It was not a huge one but not small either.  
 
Now recently Michaela's been freaking out about spiders, we have no idea why (but suspect she picked it up from her nana who is petrified from them).  We had a little spider handing out in the toilet for ages and she was refusing to sit on the potty (even after the spider had gone) so DH and are are overly blaze, even acting a wee bit excited, whenever we see one.  Plus this morning I was in a hurry to get to work so I didn't get a good look at the spider on the ceiling.
 
I was cleaning up the lounge 30mins ago and the spider (yep, the same one) was underneath Michaela's playmat when I moved it, it came running out towards me and I got a good look at it..........................
 
IT WAS A WHITETAIL  Scared 1 
 
 
I wasn't wearing any shoes so couldn't tread on it so as it scuttled towards Michaela's toybox to hide amongst her blocks I grabbed her trolley and tried to run over it with that, it quickly changed course and ran into the hole in the hearth Nervous 
 
 
Now I can't just leave a vicious poisonous spider lurking in the lounge where my daughter plays so I tried spraying the hole with air freshener (it was close at hand) which didn't work - although I'm sure the spider smelt nice (not that I got close enough to find out) then I checked the kitchen and found the black flag.  I sprayed the into the hole and managed to flush out the spider and then squashed it with Michaela's rolling stick toy thing.  Spaz  Raise The Roof 1 Bow Down
