My Grandfather passed away (which we knew was coming but it still came as a shock when it actually happend) then the day I came back to work after all that I was told that our office is closing down on the 31st of March so I will be out of a job DP has had dreaded man-flu so is impossible to live with. We had my mum & her partner at our place for a week. We've been up to Auckland for a concert.
Roll on March, I need a relaxing month

Have been looking round at what is out there work wise and there isn't much which is worrying. Although DP & I thought part time will be better as by the time I get home at the moment it 5.30ish which is getting late to get stuff done.

Work has offered to relocate me to Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Matamata, Wellington, Melbourne or Perth but at the moment DP has 4 or 5 months confirmed work with probably more after that and seem he earns more than me it would be better to stay where he has work. Although Tauranga, Wellington & Melbourne are inviting it just seems like a hassle (or maybe I'm just too lazy to move again )

I'm looking forward to spending more daytime hours with Lily though as I feel like I miss out on so much. I'm a bit worried about how she will adjust from being in fulltime DC to nothing. I'm thinking it might be best to cut her back to a couple of days instead of just cutting it out altogether.

Anywho, hope everyone is happy & healthy

We won't see my 'Dad' (stepfather who is like Dad) for Xmas but will spend a day with him either before or after camping. For Xmas lunch the place we are going to (its a big farm/camp/adventure retreat kind of thing) are doing a Xmas lunch so we all thought we will do that (saves any cooking!)
I would like to be at home just for Xmas day so we could call round to my stepfathers but DP is on his 23rd day of work without a break totday and it looks like they will only get 1 day off before Xmas so its what he wants to do and I think he needs the break & rest that will come from being away from home.
Lily has been rambling on about going camping, she is looking forward to it as the couple we are going with have a 4 year old boy who Lily adores and she has been told she will have a bike then too.
I still hadn't got round to getting the bike so went in on Saturday to get it only to find they have sold out!!! They have some coming in on Wednesday but heaps of people are after them so I might go in tonight after work and pay for one in case I miss out again! Actually I might google them now and make sure they are not for sale anywhere else cheaper!!!
Although we will be getting Lily a bike, I've just got to get into the shop & buy it so at least we know what her 'big' present will be. She will just get a few books, maybe a puzzle, a couple of items of clothes and some arty stuff split between us & Santa. I've got no idea what to get DP's Mum or my stepfather but must get in contact with M2K as I will get Mum one of the NZ prints & something else.

Lily has a dummy for night time sleeps which is a habit that I kept putting off stopping but last night I cut the end off it so when she put it in her mouth it was 'broken' I thought we wouldn't get any sleep but she only woke up once, told me her dummy was broken and then went back to sleep!! We told her that if she can have another big sleep tonight with no dummy we will go and choose a new puzzle on the weekend for being such a good girl.

I won $75 at work with the Melbourne cup sweepstake so went & spent that yesterday on some new summer clothes for her, with all the sales that are on at the moment we managed to get quite a bit

I have no idea how she did it as it was bloody heavy even for me .... while my aunty and i were busy cleaning up that mess and i was flustered and embarassed at that Amelia climbed onto the kitchen table , grabbed my auntys keys and pressed the garage door button downwhich made the door go semi onto my auntys car which caused a massive scratch on her perfect paintwork! i was motified ! so completly embarassed and of course instantly stressed at how on earth i would pay for the damage (my auntys said its fine and i dont have to pay anything altho ill try do something to fix it as i feel very guilty ) . talk about terrible twos! i think this child will be the death of me !

On a happier note Rich and i are back together . we are not living together , going to see how things go and i have my mate living here so a bit hard but we are spending heaps of time together and Amelias LOVES having him around al the time . Out of 2500 people and many more seats i got seated right next to them ! what are the chances ??? haha . Ah well i looked better than her and had actually made an effort with a nice dress and make up , she had her glad rags on and looked a bit haggered so i took a little Joy in that hahaha . on a good note my mates team won all the games they played and were the champs! so the afterparty was great .

Sorry to hear you've had a tough time M2K!

Hope Nia is feeling better soon. Me and the kids have had that cough / sore throat thing too. Its a pain - coughing for weeks then you think you're getting better and the sore throat hits. One guy at work was even off for a week with it!

Morg is still having the odd raging ridiculous tantrum but overall is calming down a bit and behaving better than a couple of months ago. She is not liking being left at daycare though (after no tears for the first 14 months of going there!!) so its breaking my heart. I'm sure shes happy when I'm not there -- but hard when I only see her upset.

TTing not going anywhere here - I haven't really tried to be honest as shes only just moved into the "over 2's" at daycare and they don't help them in babies. Shes been sitting on the loo since 15 months ... and goes through phases of going through the motions (pants off, nap off, sitting on loo, toilet paper in, flushing, washing hands) but never actually does anything so I haven't encouraged it!

Hope things get alot better for you . yea Rich had alot of troubles when he was in NZDF too (hes been out for 4 years ) , he was in for 6years and in the end was kicked out because of something he did when he was drunk , very minor and stupid really .

Well i have been living on my own for the past 6weeks or so and iv been loving it , my mate is moving in in about a week as Rich is still paying half the rent here because i cant afford it on my own and hes still on tennancy , i must admit he has been very good , with helping me out and still paying rent , plus he is still helping me out with Amelia on the nights i work and i have been helping with taking his dd to school in mornings sometimes, altho im sure this will all change when one of us gets in a new relationship.

I have men coming out my ears at the moment (i feel like every man or ex i have ever known is coming out of the woodwork) I have started seeing one of them (well only a couple of catch ups , nothing serious) Hes a friends brother that i had only met once back in january at my mates daughters 1st bday , then he decided to add me on facebok a few weeks ago and he said he had his eye on me that day (haha i hadnt noticed lol) and he had been talking to his sister about me and she told him that i was lovely and to go for it lol . I had annual leave yesterday and Amelia had preschool and hes a contractor and had a day off so we just spent the day hanging out and went for a big drive , was a good day , tomorrow night he wanted to take me out on a dinner date but i could not get a babysitter so instead he is going to come round with ingredients and cook me tea (after Amelias gone to sleep- she has not met him yet), he said we could have a night picnic which i thought was very sweet .

Oh and MTK- toilet training not going so well here altho i havent really been pushing it , She will go on the potty and do wees when she has knickers on but she doesnt take her knickers off haha . And as for the tantys.... arghhhhhh!!!! she has been throwing some real big ones lately . at the supermarket the other week in the trolly she was pointing at strangers and telling them to "Go away" in a horrible snotty , bratty voice . I was mortified.

Edited by julz85

Keira has been on-off, some days better than others but not too bad in general.

How is toilet training going? Im still yet to really try with Keira, she knows exactly what to do, sits on the potty, gets toilet paper "wipe fufu" but as soon as I take her pants/nappy off she runs away "no no no" haha, so sort of defeats the purpose of potty training when you do it all with your pants on

Everything else has changed with us in the past few months, man its been $hit to say the least (well starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel just now) but DP is no longer at his job, BIG dramas, I put in a complaint about his boss of harrasement and basically he got the boot, thanks nzdf, go F$#k yourself. They then tried to kick us out of housing area 3 days after, which because we have kids we then had 2 weeks (our rent was paid 2 weeks in advance) and then one of the weeks it snowed the 2nd time. Bah. Just getting our feet back on the ground now
Lily seems to be throwing more and more of them these days. The last week she has been really bad, she just won't listen to anything it is so frustrating. They commented at DC on Tuesday too that she has been not listening there also. I guess its just her age and wanting to see what she can get away with and asserting herself.
Other than that she is doing really well, great at talking and singing. She has colours down pat. She was doing really well with her counting but seems to be getting herself all mucked up lately. Still loves reading and drawing and has taken a keen interest in gardening and plants.
I finally have a part time person starting at work next week to take some of the load off me which will be great as the last week I've been feeling quite stressed.
huh...I've just clicked that Lily's behaviour has gone down hill since I've been feeling like that so even though I try not to take it home, she has probably picked up on my mood. Hopefully thats the answer and not that she is turning into a monster two year old

Hope everyone else is all well.

I just got really angry , i know anger is part of the grieving process but i had been very meek and quiet this whole time and then on friday/sat something happened that just flicked a switch and i got angry at him , really really angry . on sunday night i ended up telling him exactly the things that were bugging me and i was not polite but to be honest its been inside so long that it feels very good to finally have verbalised it all . He went very very quiet and didnt really have anything to say so now i am just relaxing in my big house all to myself and amelia and i am enjoying it . its nice . im giving myself a week or so of this then i will decided if my friend is going to move in .

Oh noe Elle- sorry to hear about the tummy bugs! not fun at all

good to do a clean up fattykat , its good to get some of old stuff and clear some space

If it makes you feel better Nia throws tantrums that are so off the scale it's unbelievable then will look around while she's calming down say there it is and go to whatever she's seen that was apparently what she was looking for all along (even when it's not) and act like nothing was ever wrong!

Julz good to hear its going well!! When does Rich move out?

And fattykat Nia has a pillow has for ages, but she has always slept on pillows from when she slept in our bed. We gave it to her about 8mths when she was slightly snotty to raise her head and she has slept with it since. She sleeps like us though and on her tummy arms up under the pillow

Nia's apain end of storylol no. She is such a star all these words are spilling out of her now. She has named dad pappa all on her own doing and has name mum dubby so funny and can say all of my brothers and their families names sil and her family 2-3word sentences all the time.

So DP is depressed, he is under so much pressure at work and they keep piling it on. Even mum has noticed and she only see's him on Sundays sort of thing. All I can do is let him know I'm there and be there if he wants to talk. We were lying in bed the other day talking with Nia chatting away to us and I told him hewas getting like he was when he was at Met and he recognised that so that's good but he did say he was happy with our little family. Always nice to have reassurance!

Sounds like its going well.

We have my niece staying tonight for the first time - shes a few months younger than Jake. Looking after them all, and getting them fed, changed, ready for bed = no problem. Getting the two older ones to sleep in the same room = not too much of a problem. Getting Morgan to go to bed when her cousin was in the next room with her brother = bit more of a problem! Poor bubba ... she doesn't like to be left out of anything. Took me almost an hour of going in and out (mainly in to keep her quiet!) to get her to sleep. Hope this doesn't lead to any issues with her going to bed tomorrow now!!!

    Author: Nikki
Subject: 22074
Posted: 01 August 2011 at 3:13pm

OK Morgans tantrums are out of control!! She had the HUGEST one outside chipunks yesterday cos I had to wake her up to take her in - didn't want to go in, but didn't want to get in the car to go home again either - she wouldn't let me hold her so was on the ground so I tried to put her back in her seat and she ended up on the floor below Jakes seat screaming ... in the end I carried her to entrance screaming her lungs out and she lay there screaming for ages, then hit a lady who tried to give her a chocolate as well as hitting me a few times, then screamed at the door as I went through and she stayed on the other side hitting the door etc, then back on the floor with people walking over her .... etc ... eventually after I'd got them a juice (with her still lying by the door screaming and everyone staring at the child left on the ground screaming!) she let me pick her up and calmed down.

Just had another one cos I turned the TV off to put her in bed for her nap. Most of the ones at home are because she won't let me dress her or doesn't want to wear tights / dresses (I get her dressed 30mins before we leave for a party as it can take that long in time out to get her ready!).

Its driving me mad cos shes not like this for DH mum or daycare (the odd little one, but nothing like what I get). she is so lovely at times, but is OUT OF CONTROL at time - theres no reasoning with her at all. I know its not parenting either - cos I didn't have this with Jake!!!! :(
I'm persisting with time out at home. But is hard when you're out and she is on the floor bright red and screaming over nothing! (not like I can even give her something to shut her up, cos shes not doing it cos she wants something!!)

I don't get why she is getting so frustrated and angry as she has awesome language for her age and I had assumed that was part of the toddler frustrations -- apparently not!

She also took a red balloon of one of the big boys at a 4th b'day on sat and wouldn't give it back -- the mum got them to swop in the end (for her yellow one) so she was happy. I wouldn't have made another kids give up his balloon to keep her happy, but if I said no after she'd been told she could have it all hell would break loose so I left it!!

Oh - she does have hand foot and mouth - but only two on her hand and one in her mouth so not at all bothered by it (and daycare don't even send them home for it) .... but I'm thinking MAYBE shes not feeling 100% even though she doesn't seem sick.

Thats great you have a flatmate Julz!! Just the going to sleep is the issue?

I've had to leave Morgan a couple of times too Elle - whens shes been having a ridiculous tantrum - but thankfully she shuts up after a minute or two and goes to sleep (she is used to going to sleep alone though, we just do a few books, cuddle, then put her in bed).

Is she close to dropping her day nap so not really tired?
Have you tried moving her bed time out half an hour, and running around with her all arvo / evening to wear her out and see if that helps? (Is she out of daycare while your on holidays therefore less exhausted or having longer naps?)

What I did when Morg had a patch of not wanting me to leave the room a while back was have DH put her to bed for a week or two. She didn't do it for him, and was fine by the time I started putting her to bed again.

Only other thing I could suggest is the supernanny type thing (gradually moving away) that Elle mentioned.

DH lies down with Jake quite a bit (DH likes it!) but J is asleep in minutes and is happy to go to sleep without it (I give him a quick cuddle only) so not really a problem. Maybe reassuring her you're staying and trying to get her to sleep more quickly would help if nothing else does.

Not talking to her or looking at her? Not sure whatelse to offer aside from shutting the door and walking away and letting her cry. I've done that then let her get worked up so she gets tired and realises it and then gone back in cuddled and sang to her put her in her bed and walked away she stays quiet and goes to sleep after that lol. Author: HoneybunsMa
Subject: 22074
Posted: 21 July 2011 at 11:29pm

Move his stuff for him, show him you mean business!

Glad that Amelia's been coping ok, it is alot to deal with all at once! Hope you can be happy in your new house Julz and start a fresh once you know whats happening.

Men are so annoying when it comes to emotions though huh lol.

We're just chugging along as normal. Mum wants us to pay $200 board a week, so that includes the mortgage that all us kids are paying, our debt to them and board. If we pay that though that means that we won't be able to pay anything on our credit card, which was the whole point in us moving here, and I still have no space, I would rather pay the extra $100 and have my own space I think! I spoke to her and said that we budgeted $50 for utilities when we were living on our own and thats what we were expecting to pay, the mortgage is a given as all of us are paying but I won't pay that until I know the boys are paying too which I think is only fair! I pay for all our food, mum hardly buys anything for us, and infact I end up cooking for her on occasion even. She said but J pays $100 already, I just thought well maybe he should pay that and keep it as is with the mortgage taken out of that payment. I'm actually kind of angry at them as they managed to get themselves into this stupid rolling mortgage that now if we want to keep the house us kids have to pay. Dad was earning $100k a year and mum earns $50k and they still managed to get $80k on a mortgage that they have only been paying freaking interest on.

Maybe I need to look at saving for our rent in advance and bond and moving. I'm not coping and I feel resentful for paying $100 a week when all I have is 2bdrms and we use less power then my dad and brother combined!

Didn't have a party just had Mum & her partner over from Oz, DPs Mum around and a friend and her tribe over.
I made my second ever cake! Quite stoked how it turned out. It was just a flower shaped banana cake and I did purple piping icing with a yellow centre and cake glitter. (I had so much fun decorating it that I might even get into this cake baking a bit more)
Not much happening here.
Little miss chatterbox talks and talks and talks and talks to us, herself, her toys or anyone that will listen.
She has been a wee bit naughtier than usual lately but I wonder if it because Mum was staying with us then she just got used to them being there and they leave. Also not going to DC as I had time off was a disruption in her 'normal' routine. I'm hoping she will get better.

Julz - Love the FB photos of Amelia in her new room, her bed is so cool. Hope you are ok and that the shift wasn't too stressful on top of everything else.

Edited by fattykat

At the end of class they asked her to climb back up and she's hanging at the top and he makes the comment of no fear... mmm nah fear whats that? lol. Author: HoneybunsMa
Subject: 22074
Posted: 10 July 2011 at 4:09pm

So went to my cousins sons 5th birthday last night. Missed the kids portion because it was at 1 which is right on Nia's nap time and boy did she need it, she cried for a min and was out to it lol. But took her round just after 5 after I had bathed her and stuff so Ididn't have to when I got home. She had such a great time playing with my cousins 8yr old rolling round on the ground, ring a ring a rosie and all that sort of thing. Such a cutey! Got home about 9.30 and she went straight to sleep woke up at 8 this morning and has had a 2hr sleep, so she'll be in bed either early or on time tonight. ATM she's playing with SIL sister lol. I can hear shouting down the hall way. Hope she's not waking her dad up!

Anyway so DP got an email from his sister last night. He's meant to be doing his citizenship and they have asked that he change his last name to his grandads (dads side) last name as that is meant to be their last name. They are using his grandmothers fathers name atm or something. Thing is all the family his sisters mum and dad have always had this last name, but they now want to carry on this other name. And for me and Nia to take it... I told him if we were going to change Nia's last name I would want mine put in there, he just said thats a long last name lol. They've told him he can double barrel the two last names if he wants to keep his name. When we were over there they made the comment that it was good we were getting married and his sis and her partner as then our family would have the same last name. I don't know if I want to change my last ame if we get married I've already told him if I did I would double barrel ours, but I don't want to double barrel my last name with a name that to me means nothing to me iygwim. The last name he has is the last name I know him as, is what all his legal documents are under, including his managers, they don't get you can't just change it. Its going to cost too much money! He would need to do it by deed poll I think. Makes me wonder if something has happened in his family.

From an outsiders POV I would suggest that you give it another go, maybe the stress of the quakes, house damage etc is getting to him and he is in essence taking it out on you/your relationship. Maybe once you move the stress will reduce and things will get better. I wouldn't be surprised if the varst majority of ChCh isn't suffering from depression in some degree.
In saying all that though you need to do what is best for you and Amelia. Relationships can be hard and have their ups and downs. DH and I have been in a flat spot recently with the pg, the biys not sleeping, all the renovations and bank issues, plus him working all week then doing the reno all weekend. Author: HoneybunsMa
Subject: 22074
Posted: 05 July 2011 at 2:52pm

I agree with NewPhoenix see if you can find that spark.

Honestly Julz DP and I have gone through so many ups and downs and it can still be rocky, its normally him that feels the need to drift apart and he ends up saying he loves someone else, when he says that it normally means he's unhappy and part of that unhappiness is caused by him not being happy at work or whatever. Your both young! He might be running scared because he feels so much for you and doesn't want to be hurt. How long was he with his ex for before things went sour? Was it a similar time and could he be scared that things with you will go the same track?

Even 4mths ago we were looking at breaking up but I told him Nia and I deserve better than that! He agreed and well we're still together still planning our wedding and we've actually been spending some time together. Quite often relationships end up coasting and thats what we did. We would get upset with eachother but not tell the other and therefore things didn't get better and it all snowballed.
GBH hun I hope you can find that spark. Tell him what I told DP the lust may be gone but the love is still there, give it time to grow again.

I hate when the person you love the most and turn to for everything is the one that hurts you but still wants to comfort you. I've had that, we've broken up and he's been the one I would have run to, and he still wants to give you a hug to make it better... Doesn't work like that mate!

At first i was in our bed but dp kept trying to hold me and it just made me more upset , this morning he had puffy eyes and once again tried to comfort me , told me hes sorry , cried some more , then went to work . this has never happened before . i like to think maybe we just need some space .... but i just dont know!

I would be super pi$$ed. I hate it when people bring their kids to playgroup, knowing they are sick with coughs and colds let alone measels and chickenpox, aaargh. I personally didn't understand why someone had to argue with you on your page, when you were clearly peeved either.

Julz, not long til you move now?? be such a relief after living in the war zone, I can't believe we are still getting decent shakes after all this time, all the fault lines are going off around us, makes me want to skip the country sometimes, not for my sake but the girls, the day they are too scared to sleep, I would consider it. Was cute how Amelia was consoling the other kids, she must've been copying what you do to her, very cute!

    Author: Nikki
Subject: 22074
Posted: 29 June 2011 at 8:51am

I am sooo angry! Some moron decides not to immunise her kid, then she brings him to playcentre last week and we found out yesterday he has measles. So now we're all in isolation, even though my kids have had 1 MMR shot! And we have to take poor Morgy for her MMR today with Jake who is getting all the 4yr ones, or they can't go back to kindy / daycare or out in public!!! (as with one shot they are only 93% likely to be immune).

Of course there were 4 kids who had been exposed at Jakes party at the weekend, so I have all sorts of other parents freaking out about their kids now too. And my 3 month old neice was there(one of the young boys hadn't had his 15mth shot yet and had been exposed at PC, so quite likely he could have it) so of course she hasn't had her 15mth shots yet. Poor bubba got exposed to chicken pox last week too, so fingers crossed she doesn't come down with both :(

I am so annoyed!! I am paying the consequences for people who choose not to vaccinates choices when I do the right thing and get my kids done!!! ie: chance of measles for my kids, kids they've been in contact with, the more vulnerable (cancer patients, elderly, prem bubs etc) in society, plus time off work (no pay), paying for daycare while they're off, and Morgan having to have her jab 2 years early to come out of isolation!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR do these idiots really think about how they are affecting other people with their stupid decisions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????? One girls bro has cancer and another girls niece, really hoping they are OK!!!!!!

I hope she doesn't come back into PC cos she will be getting a piece of my mind if she does!!!!!
