Ive been watching the Crime Investigation channel with all the scary stuff on, about the real story of Amityville etc. Am waiting on Halloween to start on TV2.

Not that keen on kids comg to door asking for lollies, but then again I also hate it when unsupervised kids come selling door to door raffles.chocolate etc, I feel its a bit of a violation of my privacy, coming up my driveway uninvited. No one tends to come here anyhow.

Last year we went to a HUGE kids halloween party held in a barn by a friend who is American, it was really cool, and she was raising funds for WSPA as well. It was really cool the kids loved it, she had all the cool decortaions. Would prefer something like that as opposed to trawling the streets looking for lollies.

My kuds will never go T&T as 31st Oct will always be Zaara's Birthday and I prefer spending it with Family. I also dont like the idea of kids going to strangers houses asking for lollies!

Today we had sooooo many kids coming to our door...I had bought a few packs of stuff and there was choc and lollies left over from Z's Birthday lootbags etc but we are completely cleaned out!! I gave away exp chocs as thats all I had and some older rude kids kept coming back....I told them to go away! Then there wer amny with guardians with them which was fine....and they were asked to say thank you after....and then there were little ones with out any one....Hmmmm....I wasnt soo happy and asked where the grown up was? they informed me "at home".

As it was Z's birthday there was B/Day decor in the house and some kids nearly came thry the door and asked if we were having a party?? I was shocked, what if I was a sicko? Ooohhhh I would hate to think! NA we don't do it. like otehr's have said seem's silly we spend a whole year telly our kid's not to take thing's from stranger then send the round the neighbour begging for lollies.. It's such a shame everything has changed. I remember growing up in a Cul de Sac with about 15 other kids in the road all gearing up for weeks before the big day. Families would pour hours into the costumes and we all had the most fantastic night. It was almost as big as christmas for us.

I love Halloween and wish we had a party to go to. I wouldn't let my kids go off on their own but if I could be bothered I'd organise a ask a few people before the night if we could come. My kids are too young to care so maybe when they are older I'll do it.

I get all excited each year and have all these lollies waiting but noone ever comes so I end up eating the lollies myself.

We live in a small community so it's probably safer than some areas. I don't mind the kids coming to the door but I'm always shocked at how many of them don't have adults with them. And i'm talking about little kids too, like 5 and 6 years old! What would happen if I was a weirdo perv or something?

There are some nasty older boys that don't dress up and go back to the same houses again and again to clean the place out so there are no lollies left for the other kids. I let my German Shepherd answer the door to this kids lol.

I like the idea about the balloon tied to the letter box. If we get kids at the door and their are dressed up then we might give them something all though to be honest we don't have many kids around us anyway. To be honest i can't undersatnd why something that is so americanised has caught on here. I remember going trick ot treating with a group of friends when I was younger but I didn't enjoy it at all...it just felt wrong knocking on peoples doors asking for stuff

DF and I had a conversation about this the other night actually (random really) and we decided that once the kids were old enough we would 'host' a halloween party for them and their friends...DF and I threw a Halloween party last year for our friends and family and it was fantastic! Even my grandma dressed up LOL

It something we did every year as children (I have really fond memories of my parents taking me)..but it was in the UK, and a different "time" IYWKIM. I love it when kids come around trick or treating - and I have been known in the past to dress up just to answer the door. I normally decorate the front door and do a couple of pumpkins for the front doorstep. Am not going to do it this year, but only because I have run out of time!

We live in a nice family area and most of the kids have parents with them, and they tend to come when its light. I have the lolly jar full of fruit bursts and ready to go!!!!

I dont know what will happen this year, since we've moved out of my parents, but every other year one of the mums on the street (and a couple of others) takes a group of kids to each house on the street ,but only houses that "do " halloween , and then they come back and have icecream cones ...Caitlyn cares more about dressing up than getting a lolly.
In fact one year, at one of the houses , instead of saying "trick or treat " she said "IM A WITCH !!" and when the lady asked if she wanted a lolly she said "no ...IM a WITCH ! do I look like a PRETTY WITCH ?! " ....as usual, my vain child only wanted to hear that she was , indeed , pretty .

I got fruit bursts as they're wrapped lollies, thought of that before I got them.
Usually the neighbour hood parents tell us their kids are coming, so we know to have something on hand.

Here they have an area set aside for a halloween walk and they can only go to houses who have a balloon tied to their letterbox. We aren't doing it thou as we are seeing family down the road(about 30kms down the road, but it is still down the road ).

We had quite a few groups last year so we'll have a bag of lollies on hand just in case. And if there's some left at the end of the night ... yay for us!

I don't mind other kids doing it but we're in quite a secluded little area and I would regard it as pretty safe but I'd never let Livvy do it. I don't see the harm in it at all.

As long as kids are well supervised and as MrsMojo said, only accepting wrapped lollies. Most people have a fair idea on where not to let their kids door knock, and if their area is reasonably safe.

I've bought some wrapped candy for any kids that might pop by.

It's all a bit of fun!

DSs school is having a halloween disco tomorrow night which I think is a great idea, they get to dress up and have fun with their friends instead of wandering the streets annoying people for lollies!  Luckily we are rural and our driveway is too far for any trick or treaters to bother walking up!

We are going to a Halloween afternoon tea and we get to dress up! Its just our family and all the little cousins are dressing up and we are putting a little party on for them. I'm the Halloween Grinch, I don't like it at all. Nyah has been on at me all afternoon about going out tomorrow and it's just not going to happen.. Conor never did it and I'm not about to start now.

We only had one group turn up last year, I just said "we don't do halloween" and they said ok and went on their merry way.

Personally I don't support halloween. I don't like the idea behind it but I really don't like the idea of kids going to strangers' homes and demanding lollies (whatever happened to "don't accept lollies from strangers") so my kids won't be doing it.

Nah, I'm not into halloween although I often keep a bag of lollies so I have something to give any trick or treaters. 

Tomorrow night we're going around to a friends place for dinner and then we're all (3 mums & 4 kids) going to Party at the Lake in Whitby which is being run by one of the local churches as an alternative to Halloween.  I hear they have free merry go rounds and things so Michaela should love it!

 

ETA: when she is older I'll probably send her to the Saints and Angels party at church so she gets to dress up without wandering the neighbourhood door knocking.
