Same here, especially considering Caden will be crawling, and walking soon, what if the dog comes back.

Have you heard anything from the neighbours?

That's really irresponsible of them not have have their dog tied up/fenced in.
I know dogs can be sneaky and get out, but if you've seen if wandering around before, then obviously they're not very diligent with keeping the dog contained.

TBH I would actually be pushing for more than just the dog being tied up. It will just do it again if it gets the chance and it may move on from cats to children

I fully sympathise, i lost my kitten on new years day to a dog attack, two dogs i think they were pitbulls maybe, came onto our property and got little roxy while she was sleeping.

I wasnt here when it happened but my mum and cousin were, our neighbour had also seen it and my cousin and neighbour went running after the dogs, found out where they lived.

But due to the area we live in we decided it wasnt a good idea to get animal control involved.

We havent seen those dogs, and are way more vigilant with dogs coming over the fence, it has calmed down lots though.

But big big hugs !!

You poor thing   That is just awful.

To be honest I would probably call animal control and let them deal with it.
I would be really concerned with the idea that in a few month your wee man will be out in that yard playing and you certainly don't want the dog getting in and hurting him.
We have just had to call about our neighbour because of our neighbours dog doing jumping into our yard. I can understand how you are feeling!! It's so horrible losing a fur baby like that!

I would definitely call animal control and let them know what has happened, that way they have it on file incase something happens in future. Its hard, I want to call animal control, but then I think It might be best to see the owners first, just so they can try and right the situation before anyone else gets involved...

First of all Sheena, Im sorry for your loss

My friend had both her cats mauled by the dog down the road , the second one the dog actually bought up to her house and her parents opened the door to it, they have photos of the cats in the lounge ...it was already dead, it had broken its neck , the dog was just showing his "catch "
The dog got the second cat on a driveway that leads down to a day care centre, that was the scary part .

I think , if a dog can do that to a cat, imagine what it could do to a little kid , and perhaps it wouldn't touch a child ,...perhaps , but who wants to take that risk ?
I would be calling the animal control people pronto,they deal with things like this all the time and would surely know the best path to take

Oh that is soooooo horrible. I would be devasted if that happened to one of our furbabies. I was a total mess when I found one of cats ran over but some how a dog attack seems worse.
I would also be devasted if my one of my dogs did that to someone elses cat.

No they dont know yet, I am going to write the letter shortly and walk down and pop it in their letter box. So if they dont make any contact with us, or I see that mutt on our property again I wont hesitiate in calling animal control.

The only good thing is that they have a for sale sign up on their place so they are moving! I would be talking to/writing to the neighbours (perhaps once you've calmed down a smidgen. I feel it's only fair they help out with the bill surely!!!!

Oh man, I soooo know hwo you feel...

I had a cat that I was extremely attached to, and she got mauled by the neighbour's dog. This happened about 9 years ago, but it is still quite fresh in my memory.

Anyhow, my cat would always wait for me after school at the front gate, and the day she got attacked, I was running about 15 minutes late. It was in that 15 minute period that she was attacked. I got home, and I saw her panting. I thought it was due to the extremely hot weather that day, but as I walked up to her, I saw blood coming out of her mouth, and puncture wounds all over her body

I took her to the vets straight away, but the next day I got a call to ask to put her down, as her liver had been extensively damaged, and she was still in shock.

Those neighbours never came to admit what had happened, but the other neighbours told me they had witnessed it and which dog it was. My dad immediately called Animal Control, and they were made to pay for the vet bill.

The dog was put down in the end, as Animal Control said that it would probably happen again, and the dog could attack a small child next.

If your neighbours don't bother contacting you today about it, I really wouldn't hesitate calling Animal Control and reporting it.

We JUST lost our Chinchilla Persian to a blocked bladder a month ago...and now this happens...

This morning my mum had to rescue our other cat offf the neighbours jack russell. It was maulling her!! My mum managed to kick the dog away and get the cat but she was in a bad way. So i took her to the vets this morning and she was so badly bitten it was kinder to have her put down.

Im SOOOOOOO EEFING ANGRY!!!! I dont know what to do.....if I go down there I will rip shreds off the owners and I dont want to do that really..
I dont want to ring Animal Control right away I think its fair to give the owners a chance to come to the party and do something about their dog, and pay our bill.

So I thought I would write a letter to them first.....

What would you do?
