i also had phenergan for when lani was 1 year and we went overseas. she went hyper too. wouldnt sleep, relax etc. for ages.

We have LoraPaed (Loratidine) for Noah's eczema and it works really well. It is non-drowsy allergy relief and the directions are to give at night when itchy. We only give it to him on nights when he eczema has flared up and it helps him not to itch and calms the angry patches calm right down. It is a really small dose too - only 2.5mls for my 17kgish boy. Perhaps you can ask your dr about it. Hehe I loved phenergan when I was younger We used to get it if we wouldn't go to sleep! Oh the good old days when that was deemed normal lol

Bugger.  It seems to have the opposite affect to most then.  Once I put him back to his bed just before midnight, I didn't hear from him til 6:45 this morning, so I managed to get a good amount of unbroken sleep.

 

I don't think I'll try it again.  He sleeps through the night normally, so the only reason I tried it was to stop him scratching his eczema, but it didn't help with that either.

We got some Valergan (sp?) to use with Emma Rose when we went overseas, just in case we needed it to knock her out on the plane. Our GP said it's like Phenargen but possibly a little bit stronger. Anyway, we gave it to her a couple of hours into the first 12-hour flight and she completely lost the plot. I think she's the one in ten whom those kinds of drugs sends in the opposite direction... She was so tired but absolutely refused to sleep, and when she did finally crash, she woke often, very unsettled. Jett is not alone!

Maybe you could talk to your doc about trying something else.  We use Zyrtec (which is non-drowsy) for Michaela but she was over 2yo when she started getting hayfever.

I hate phenergyn.  I have had really bad hayfever all my life so I'm always looking for something to help and several years ago I tried phenergyn and not only did it not help I just couldn't stay awake.  I ended up taking a weeks leave to sleep it off.

I'm not a fan of it, Nyah reacts to it and the times that she has had it has come out in the most dreadful rash and normally ends up in Starship!!!

I hope he slept the rest of the night for you.

Yep it makes Kate hyper too. I haven't used it but my friend who's a GP said that about 1 in 10 children go the opposite way.

I hope it goes out of his system soon and you all get some sleep.

I was prescribed some of this today to help with Jett's allergies so he won't scratch his eczema his sleep.  It also said it can cause sleepiness. 

 

I gave him some before his bedtime and he's been asleep since 7pm (his usual bedtime).  He woke about 15 mins ago crying.  I rocked him back to sleep but he's just started crying again!

 

Sooo much for sleepiness!  He never wakes this time of night!  I know it can cause the opposite effect - I just didn't think that would be the case the first time he had it.

 

Anyone else given this to their child, and they've slept badly because if it??
