According to the Dr Sprott website, one of the reasons NZ and Australia have such a high cot death rate is because of the high use of woollen sheepskins/underlays... Apparently, there have been no cases of cot death on any kind of mattress that has the plastic wrapping with only a sheet over it. The plastic wrapping prevents any gases from the mattress being inhaled.

Just had to put that in to be cheeky. When I went looking for a cot my Uncle said he would buy it so off we went shopping, found a lovely cot & then my Uncle made the shop attendant pull out ALL the different types of mattresses (I think there were 4 types) so he could try them out. After he lay down on all of them he chose the orthopaedic one coz apparently it was the most comfy. The price tag on it was $180 though so its NOT a cheap option. I was planning on using it on my boy's bed because his cot breaks down into a bed but since I'm having another baby that idea went out the window.

Edited by toniellis
