omg ! You are definelty a much more patient person than me , I would have been very p*ssed off if someone did that with my baby .
I agree with Linzy , i dont think you should feed a baby that age without getting an ok from the mum first .

...and your DP should be backing you up , make sure you let him know that .

I would be mad too. I remember when my DD was a year old my MIL and her DH came for a visit. Since the Grandparents were there we decided to go out for a little while.
When we came back they said to us "Oh, she really likes peanut butter."

Both DH and I were like OMG WTF, PEANUT BUTTER!!!

We told them that she didn't eat peanut butter and that we were waiting until she was older due to possible allergies, etc, etc. Basically they thought we were crazy for freaking out.

Well.... the next day they asked if they could take our DD, we said sure. When they got back they said "OH, she really like cheeseburgers."

Again we were thinking OMG what are you doing, she is only a year old. She doesn't need to be eating McDonalds. Again they thought we were crazy. Tried to talk about it with him he said that its over with and why do i keep bringing it up. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. He so deserves a smack! I just told him that he needs to think about where his priorites lie and if they not with me and bub then don't expect me to hang round. Though its proberly very hard for him as his grandparents are very minipulative to his whole family.

Good lord - with the breastfeeding! You're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I think it's the curse of the Oldies - just because it was fine 30+ years ago, doesn't mean it's fine now. Times change, climates change and genetics change and the sooner they understand that, the better.

Agree too with Lindsey - DP does need a swift kick in the head.   Although, easier said than done.

Thats awful - especially how she went on about you afterwards saying "You liked it until Mum said no". How childish! I also can't believe that you told her about the allergy and she still didn't get it - grrr!   

My sister-in-law tried to give DS an eskimo lolly at 3 mths - she thought I was being a cow by not letting him have it! Plus she use to say to me she couldn't stand breastfeeding because it makes you stink of milk from it leaking! Just for the record I dont leak and I dont stink! But what annoys me is people trying to push formula onto mothers who choose to breastfeed. A bit of support wouldn't go astray! (I don't go to visit her anymore as she annoys me too much).

I also think the older generations don't understand as back then, they were encouraged to fed their babies pretty much anything. Plus formula was very popular, in some generations the preferred choice.

I really sympathise with you. It is a hard situation to be in, especially if DP is not behind you.   Have you sat down and spoken to him about it?

I think he doesnt like to challange them. he never stands up for me which i think is half the reson they dont like me. we have had alot of fights over this because his loyalties should lie with me and his son. IMO.

i no 6 months is way to early! if i shouldnt be eating garlic because it might go through breast milk then bub should def not be givin garlic straight! and its not like hes not getting more then eough i weighed him the other day and he was 10.4 kgs so a very healthy boy.

oh well they are going away on a cruise for a month so at least i dont have to see them for a while haha

omg:( I feel for you.. E has allergies too and it makes me so mad people try to feed him:( cause I don't think anyone should feed anyone's baby without asking(related or not) and at 6 months he shouldn't have garlic bread or butter potatoes anyway allergies or not:(!!!

oh yea i did tell her about his dairy allergies and that we just have to watch in case he has allergies to anything else several times. but they wrote me off as a mother as soon as i decided to breast feed. they tried to push me into formula because thats what they did.

My IL's were like that when we had our first baby and tried to give her the most ridiculous things when I wasn't around.
It took me a wee while to get DH onside about it too and even then he had to tell them a few times before it sunk in that what they were doing was actually harmful to bubs, not just me being overly fretful and protective.

I am so sorry you had such a bad time. That was terrible of her to feed your baby, IMO for a baby so young anyone should ask you before feeding your baby. It has only been in the last few months or so that I have let my Mum feed Jack without checking with me first (I went through a stage of restricting some things in Jack's diet). Other people don't know what your baby can or can't have. Oh I am getting mad for you!
And your DP needs a boot up the backside for not supporting you on it!

i am so so so mad right now i'm actually almost crying i'm sorry to write this i no worse things can and have happened but i don't really have anyone to talk to. i went to dps house for a bbq today and his nana and grandad where there. she took him outside where i couldn't see him, when i went outside she was feeding noah ( whos only almost 6 months) garlic bread!!!!! i was fuming! he has only just started having rice ceral and has dairy allergies and who noes what else!. so i said no he cant have that as nice as i could and she started to sulk and tried to feed him butter potatoes! anyway i said to dp what had happened and he did nothing (they hate me already because i have my own opinions, so was trying not to come off as bad person) so i took him off her. and she spent the rest of the time saying to noah "you liked that a until your mother said no" and stuff like that. then when i left dp had a go at me about it saying it was nothing and i make to much of it.
