If that doesn't work perhaps the wood finish is not smooth enough and that is why the paint is seeping underneath?

I think it looks great but if it is really bugging you sand it all down and try again. I find that cheap masking tape usually works perfectly.

Edited by summerlamb

I rang my Dad who knows all about everything and he said to give the base coat a light sand and use the rounded sided of a spoon to push the tape down as the timer was slightly textured. Worked a treat!!! Gotta love those Dads!!

I'll post a pic once it's finished (as long as DH gets of his behind and finishes sanding the legs for me)!!

The softer the stick the more likely it is to do that. But the downside of the really sticky stuff is that if it's fairly new paint you are sticking it to it can rip the paint off

    Author: Danaj
Subject: 22638
Posted: 22 November 2008 at 9:43am

Hiya,

A friend has given me this massive old timber change table. It has three shelves and is a bit beaten up as it's been in storage in her garden shed. I decided to revamp it so have painted the whole thing white and did the shelves in candy stripes as per the pic below. Problem is that I bought the proper Scotch masking tape but it's absorbing the paint and the paint is running underneath so the lines aren't perfect and i'm really ticked.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any better products for getting a clean paint line?
