I did one paper and I had to pay for it myself so do make sure before you enrol.

Uni is a lot less work than Nursing or Midwifery. I did psychology, Kandice, at UC as part of an arts degree. Although it was very interesting, there is no such thing as a psychology degree as such, you do it as either an arts degree or a science degree, then you major in psychology. So, the majority of your courses are psyc but you have to pad the degree out with other papers. To be honest, I got a little bored with it, and then after 3 years and finally getting the degree you realise you need to do a masters (at another 2 years study) just to get registered as a psychologist. Depending on the paper you can do it at home. Some have extramural options, but not all. I did my 2 papers at home last semester. You can get all your fees paid for if you are studying part time.
I'm only doing 1 paper a semester and got student loan to pay for the fees. I'm doing my extramurally - ie: at home. I study at uni part time and got my fees paid for the last 18 months as long as I enrolled in 3 papers over the course of the full study year (that included summer). So I ended up doing 1 paper per semester, including 1 over summer (semester 3) and found that combined with 10-15 hours work per week and looking after a 5 year old plenty. I don't know what the requirements for Nursing are... but for Midwifery... my friend did her part time study like this:

Semester 1 (first half of this year)

Cells Tissues and the Human Body, Maths A and Maths B (the two maths papers only run for about 9 weeks, so you don't do them at the same time, B runs after A)

Semester 2 (last half of this year)

Chemistry
Info Skills and Therepeutic Communication (like maths, these only run for half the semester, so you do one after the other).

So at any one time, she was only doing 2 papers (two full semester, 4 half semester) and she got her fees paid by study link.

You should still be able to get the fees paid if you do it part time. And working doesn't matter if you're only getting your fees paid.

Yeah, lots of people did pre-health while working, some did it part time with kids..

The good thing about not having to do it full time is that you can keep it to the ones that are pre-requisites etc.

Can you study part time? I eased myself into it by taking 2 papers last semester as well as having Daniel home full time. It was good because it takes a bit to remember how to do the whole study bit if you have been away from it for a while and lets you see just how much time you need to study. Maybe go and talk to a careers advisor, they are really nice and will probably help you out a lot.

Remember you may be entitled to a student allowance so you wouldn't have to work so much or you could even do pre health part time over the whole year and figure out if you want to study full time the next year or even wait until Kylah is at school?

To be honest.. i really just dont know. When reading my other thread about shiftwork and weekends, and not seeing Kylah.. it really puts me off..

I put Kylah in daycare because i know i want to study! Im just so confused about what to do. Growing up i never had a clue, although i did want to do psychology, as i can read people very well.

Hi
0.4 EFTS is basically full time study (what you need for living costs (loan), allowance, all that jazz).

I did my pre-health in the first semester of this year, and to get to that EFTS I had to do 7 papers all at once. That put me to just over 0.4 (6 was still under). Although four of those papers were half semester papers so I was only ever doing 5 at a time. If that kinda makes sense....

Hi,

It says on studylink if you want to work part time then you have to be studying at least a 0.4 EFTS per semester. How long is a semester?
