Has he had his urine examined for bacteria and cells and such.
Your instinct is that something is not right and you need to advocate for him that this is the case. Can you be referred to a child assessment unit at the hospital or a urology clinic, rather than waiting for the paed referral
Is there another doctor at your clinic who is more specialised in children?
In some cases you really need to be strong and assertive to get the right answers, if you make a nuisance of yourself he will not push this under the carpet for you
I hope you manage to get to the bottom of this for yurs and Lucas' sake
Take care

You're Lucas' advocate and if you think the lump is changing or getting worse, you have every right to ask the Dr to look at it again.
The decrease in wet nappies could be because the weather has been so much warmer, maybe he's using more of the fluid that's going in?
Either way though, its not worth leaving it if you're concerned.
Author: BuzzyBee
Subject: 22678
Posted: 23 November 2008 at 10:42pm

Long story short, Lucas has had a lump in his penis for a couple of months now, we are on public waiting list to see a Paed (6 month waiting list ...oh the joys) have signed him up for medical insurance on his own policy but since its pre-existing condition its not covered so alas we continue to wait.

Anyway the Dr. can't seem to tell me what it is, so I thought i'd throw it out there and see if anyone that works in the medical profession might have a clue, I noticed in another thread that a few of you ladies work with young children/babies so you might have an inkling.

I have a photo, a little graphic and not one I want to post publicly, but could you post a reply or PM me if you'd like to take a look and see if you can suggest what it may be ...the waiting to see a specialist is killing me, and I believe the lump is getting bigger. I'd hate to think we are waiting to be seen and in the meantime it's causing longterm damage or ???

ETA: the lump seems to be elongated, Dr thought it could be a cyst, but sometimes it almost looks like it's something to do with the 'tube'. I'm rather concerned, but don't think theres much I can do until we get our appointment? He doesn't seem to have many wet nappies anymore, not half as heavy as they used to be either.

Edited by BuzzyBee
