I though vingar acted like a fabric softener and made them water resistant?

It really depends on what nappy you have as well.

Sometimes they can end up getting a build-up of laundry detergent (ETA - or as in this case, barrier or nappy rash cream) on them (although some people say you can combat that by not using too much powder and doing the occasional hot wash). You can tell if the nappies start to smell really strongly even when they're only a little bit wet. So you do the stripping thing to get rid of the detergent buildup - apparently helps with absorbency too.

There are a few different methods out there, but the one I tried & found successful was the vinegar & baking soda method:

1. Hot wash, just water
2. Cold wash, 1/2 cup each of white vinegar & baking soda
3. Cold rinse, 1/2 cup white vinegar
3. Cold rinse, just water.

How do I strip my nappies?? Vinegar in the wash right? But how much? I used Ungvita on Sophie, and it has left all her nappies smelling like old fish ick!
