Can the plunket nurse form that PNAP team not refer u themselves to the mother and baby unit? i agree...but i guess my gp doesnt. I was hoping he'd be able to refer me somewhere as I have no idea where to start with some counselling! I actually tried it once before but I didnt find the 'right' someone...it just didnt work.

It is well docmmented that a combo of drug treherapy and conselling are the best form of treatment. Its better to get things sorted now with as much help a possible. Drugs along are not going to help you work throgh thr feeling/issues u have from the birth, and help you to cope day-to -day with how u are feeling now.

yea im in chch i think thats the one J, my PNAP lady was talking about. I havent been there yet. J and my GP seem to disagree...J thinks Id benefit from it, gp thinks I just need more drugs...Im heading to the gp tomorrow and am so nervous! I dont really know, like, HOW to tell him how crap everything is...if that makes sense. Its a depratment of the hospital- usually part of community mental health. The service is usually made up of social workers, counsellers, phycologists, and nurses.

Where in nz are u? Services and waiting times vary greatly bewteen areas. Yep I would recommned going through mmh too- if u can get into the public system u wont have to pay. Finding a prvate couseller may be very expensive- also with the ptsd u may benefit from seeing a phycologist for some phycotherapy,..strategies and therapies to help u deal and process,..a more involved, structured type of therapy than straight counselling. so pretty much everyone agrees that counseling is good for PTSD and PND and stuff.

But how does one find an appropriate counselor?
