I'd be keen to have a nanny, not so much for a #1 baby but more for the toddler(s) when I'm dealing with a new baby - ie nanny look after 18mo while I busy with baby. I'd go for nanny living outside of the home though, so that I feel like we still get our "just family" time. Wow, it's amazing how many of us on here have BEEN nannies at one time or another

I was a part time nanny (live out) while I was at uni and looked after twins from the age of 5 months. I was with their family till they were 4 1/2 and by then the twins were in daycare and I had their younger sister at home mostly on her own.

Since I've been overseas I have done some part time "nanny" work but it's really different here as all of the families I've worked for have had a live in "domestic helper" who does a lot of the looking after the kids whether I'm there or not Can be a weird situation! I've looked after 3 month old twins and lots of babies between 3 - 12 months and it's all been word of mouth.

I would have a nanny. Not here, unless it was a couple of half days a week so I could get out to do the shopping etc, but if we came back to NZ and I was working full time I'd consider it. I agree that it's the "next best thing" to having Mum there and like the idea of my kids being in their own environment. one of my dearest friends is a nanny, she has no children of her own (yet) but quite frankly I would trust her with my child(ren) more than most of my friends WITH kids (except you guys of course! )
Some people are just born with a natural rapport with children,and appreciate every little thing about them , she is one of those people,I think it would be really cruel if for some reason she isnt able to have kids.
(well its cruel for anyone , but I know what I mean)

She has been nannying for this particular family since the little girl was about 6 or 8 months, there is a baby now too, well , hes one and a half, and for the first 3 months the mum was there full time too, so Sarah just had to look after the daughter mainly .

i was a nanny myself and thoughly loved it.

We got a nanny from 8 months for two days a week. It means I can work from home, go to yoga and spend a half day in the office. So it's the perfect balance for us - still spending the balance of my time with Liv.

Our nanny is great. Really active, constantly doing new things with Liv. So we'll keep this arrangement and reassess when Liv's 18 months.

Pre babies I intended to only consider childcare once Liv was 1... oh well!

I would only consider a live out nanny.

Mine does some housework - she folds the washing and puts it away, tidies up after the kids and does some meal prep/cooking but I have a cleaner that does the actual cleaning.

Sarah was our Nanny when my girls were little, we had to have a nanny because I could not afford to stay home but Natasha was too sick to go to a day care all day. Sarah only worked from 7-12 than my mum would take over but she was so so lovely. My girls adored her. She did such fun things with them and I know if I had been home I would have done house work, washing etc but that wasn't Sarah's job all she had to do was play and keep the girls happy.

I had one from when the gremlins were 10 days old until they were 10 weeks thru the government Multiple Births Home Help scheme.

Then when they were 8 mths old I got a part time nanny to look after them while I work. I work from home so I'm here most of the time but she does look after them on her own as well. And atm I'm on maternity leave I usually hang out with the nanny and the kids and she helps me when I have to take them all out coz I need the extra pair of hands.

For me, having 3 of them at home, it works out cheaper having a nanny than having them in daycare, and it means they are at home in their own environment. My nana is my nanny at the moment. she looks after Taine in the morning and then drops him at daycare. For a younger child, i perhaps would, but would have to be someone I knew, or someone who I knew had recommended. I would definitely be relying on word of mouth.

If I could afford a Nanny it would be me first choice of care other than me or DH of course

I was a Nanny for 5 years and I loved it. It was great for the mums who had to work to know that their kids where getting one on one attention.

I would use a Nanny from whenever I had to go back to work. I had a live-out nanny for our daughter from birth until we moved here. She was a godsend!

I'm the sole breadwinner so couldnt really take any maternity leave (I was officially on leave but had meetings from when my daughter was 4 days old). She was absolutely amazing and we're still in touch.

I nannyed for two years and grew up with nannies as well.

If i had the money and was going back to work *when i have kids*, i would get a nanny as i feel home care one to one is a bit more like having your mum home IYKWIM. Next best thing. I like the idea of my child being in their own enviroment. I nannyed for a girl from 22mths.

I actually have a "thing" about trust with all the issues going on with kiddies being hurt while in others care ..

So I personally would not have a nanny unless it was as a helper and I or SD were in residence.

Unfortunately having a nanny is not in our budget.
I worked as a nanny for a 3yr old here in NZ, its was 3 mornings a week, then I'd drop him off at kindy.
The family I worked for had always had home help, they were reasonably wealthy.

I was a nanny in the States, and the youngest was 2 months old.. and I didn't find that too bad, I certainly learnt alot about newborns.

Ever have a nanny? Would it be live-in or live-out? At what age of the youngest child would you get a nanny?

It's just that i'm studying by correspondence to be a nanny. I've also taken an extra course to be able to do maternity nannying ie. newborns.
