When I lived in Tawa (I left 10 years ago, mind you) Davidson Cres/Turkington street weren't "desirable" streets to live on.

Thanks to divorced parents I had a house on St Aidan's Way and one on Collins ave - about as opposite-sides-of-town as you could get back then - and loved them both.
The Collins ave house (near the top) had a lovely big sun-trap of a garden and the St Aidan's way house, being on a hill, got lots of sun, too.

But I prefer the Linden area to live.
Close to Linden and Tawa railway stations, a quick jump onto the motorway to go to town or Porirua.
Close to the pool, a few kindy's and primary schools in close range.

definitly look for the side between the railway and the motorway.

Don't be put off by the motorway - we barely hear it and it is only about 100 yards away (you have been to my house so that should give you an idea anyway
)

All i really know is that the area around Davidson Cres is supposed to be not so nice . . . (though i speak from hear-say and not personal experience)

My personal preference is to live on the sunny side of the tracks so Taylor Terrace would be perfect for that!  Cambridge Street would be pretty good too, being so central it's out of the shade of the hill and nice and close to Grasslees park (which will be handy when your wee man is a bit older) but I'm not sure about St Edmund Cres.  Your best bet is to go there on a sunny afternoon and see if it's shaded or not.

Hey. We're considering buying a house in Tawa, as it is a bit cheaper than Wellington.

Where are the good places to buy? Are there any areas that should be avoided. A few places we are going to go to open homes are:

- Taylor Tce (Sundale)
- St Edmund Cres (Redwood)
- Cambridge St (Central)

I grew up in Tawa before my parents moved into town. My DF is 24... 25 in May, he left at the beginning of 7th form though, to take on an electrical apprenticeship.

Me, well I went to Kapiti College, grew up on the Kapiti Coast and I miss it terribly!
It's a shame that DF is as Tawanese as they come... My Dad is coming to NZ for Hannah's 1st and is planning to drive to WLG to see friends - I can't decided if I wanna go or not. 6 hours in the car in the middle of summer may not be ideal with a toddler...
Otherwise I'll be flying down mid-March (which I'll be doing even if I do go next month).

Yup I lived in Tawa from age 7 to 19, went to St Francis Xavier and Tawa Intemediate and College.
Moved to Christchurch and have married a Cantabrian so don't ever see myself back in Tawa.
Still visit regularly though as my Dad lives in Redwood He even has 2 sisters in Tawa too!

Yah for Tawa people! I was born and raised in Tawa. When I left home I lived in various suburbs around Wellington and even did a year in Auckland, but I moved back to Tawa about a year ago.

I even ended up marrying a Tawa boy, he went to all the same schools as me (just 7 years ahead), and lived about 1km away from where I was raised. But we didn't cross paths until about 4 years ago when I was living in Churton Park.

DH always says that house prices are better in Tawa, and my response has remained the same 'I'm not livin in flippin Tawa' and I have no idea why I would take against a little suburb, It has become a running joke.
