Oh henna - we had our family bach at Te Puru....and I also lived in the bach when I was pregnant with my first - now 16! We lived right across from the school so only just had to walk across the field to the beach and there we were. Could see the water from the verandah. Oh how much it has changed now....much prefer it back in the day.

Wow... you picked Thames... interesting choice.. we could house swap and we could spend New Years in Wellington... Tee hee hee.

The races are on the 4th and 16th of Jan this year... Really good days and you can take you own booze and food in so a nice casual day if you want to take a blanket..

There are heaps of cool bands all around the place... eg Opshop is playing at Coroglen on the 1st..... $40 a ticket. Supergroove are here also and Elmenop......

Saturday markets are good for food and veges and crafty things.... lots of nice jewellery.

Bullion is the best restaurant in town ... a little more expensive than anywhere else but Great food.

Also De Luca's Italian is VERY good.

Coromandel is a nice drive 55km up the coast... but voted the second most beautiful drive in NZ.... A slooow 55km... nice small town with crafty shops.

Thames is rich in mining history, so you will find lots of goldmining museums, trails & historical sites.
There is a Butterfly & Orchid garden plus Rapaura Watergardens in Tapu

I think weegee has it covered. There is also and old gold mine works thingee you can have a look at. I love Waiau Waterworks - it's about an hour from Thames but worth the drive. (Actually, as long as you're not getting any car sickness with your pregnancy - there's a nice waterfall a little bit further on from the waterworks, just a short bushwalk from the road.)

DH and I decided to pick somewhere random that we haven't been to as our destination for New Years this year, so we went to wotif.com, went eeny-meeny-miny-mo and chose Thames! So, what is there to do there? Is it near beaches/bush walks etc? We'll be there for two nights (will be in Bay of Plenty the rest of the time).
