I have taken baby food jars both on & off the planes, as long as they still have the plastic seal around them & you declare them then you should be fine taking them off. Any opened ones' I'd ditch in the bins before entering the customs area at the other end, that is the same as other food I take for myself on the flight.

The formula take a sealed one for when you get there & declare it. Not sure about the open formula.

As long as you declare things they are pretty happy, it's what you don't declare that they will take you to task over. so if in doubt over declare.

I wonder if the leaving open jars on the plane thing is more when you come BACK to NZ (ie not being allowed to bring ANY food in unless you declare it etc). Nowhere else, except maybe Australia, is as strict about food and things coming into their country .. I remember leaving a whole lolly cake on board our Air NZ plane when we moved to Hong Kong .. only to realise there is essentially no "customs" guy to talk to - let along MAF - at HK airport

I was going to say get a letter from your dr stating they can only have soy, but as you are leaving tomorrow you may not be able to get one.

They may see you have twins and not worry about you

I'd say you could have my dividers but i melted three of them in the dishwasher all in one week, a while ago, not having a good week

That's crazy RedBedRock. AirNZ told me I wouldn't have to taste any jars but any open ones I'd have to leave behind.
Seriously, it look like I'm stocking a shop with the amount of jars I have.

I tried Woollies, Countdown & the warehouse in J'ville for the divider thingies but no joy. I bought the ones I have in Pak n Save a few months ago. Might take a drive to Porirua this evening I think.
The containers would definitely be more convenient!

We just put the formula in those divider thingies for the flight and put the tin in our checked luggage. No problems then just get water off the cabin crew. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to take the jars off the plane, I would call the airline to double check on that.

wet wipes

Yes. Aviation Security Officers will use their discretion when assessing what volumes of certain products would be considered necessary for use in a flight. Obviously, the age of the child and the duration of the trip will be taken into account when determining this.

Ok I've been told that I can take jars on planes but can't take them off the plane once they've been opened.

Anyone know what the story is with Formula?
