I can tell if they still have wind by the hardness of their tummies.  If they are rock-hard, they have wind but if they are slightly soft and flexible they dont have any.  This way always works for me.]]>

It seems to me that whenever she talks about blue around the mouth, it's just remnant breastmilk on baby's lips. Certainly she has said it several times when baby didn't have wind or wasn't unsettled.]]>

It does seem weird that wind would cause the skin around their mouth to change colour though.]]>

She said it isn't just an old wives tale and do I notice the colour go down when he burps but to be honest I only ever think about it when he is in the bath cos thats when you can see just how blue they are.  Maybe I should mention it to doc next time we go there and see what she says I may just be being a total overthinker (cos I know I am) but the colour never seems to be any less than it is and I am pretty sure there is no secret bubble of wind somewhere cos Alex would let me know if there is (we used to have issues around the wind situation)]]>

I know they are rumoured to be a sign of wind (I still remember being told to get out of bed and walk Daniel till it went away, at 2am following the birth from hell <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif" border="0">) and many babies just have them for whatever reason, but it can also be a sign of issues with the heart.  When I was talking to my LC about it, she said she couldn't understand, physiologically, why they would be blue if windy.<br /><br />I burp him halfway through each side, and at the end of each side.  Probably get a burp 70% of the time.  But Daniel is a really spilly baby, so often throws up instead of burping  <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0"> ]]>

I had no idea how or why to wind a baby lol so mum taught me that wee thing and it definitely helped. (Even though winding took like 1/2 an hour sometimes lol)]]>

Now we know the right way/spot to get him to do it. <br /><br />My MIL still looks at him and says "oh he has wind" when I know he doesn't. <br /><br />Personally I think that DS was just a bit blue around the mouth as there were times when he had not been fed to have wind from milk or he wasn't upset from wind.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But I would still try to get it out of him anyway just in case <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0"> ]]>
