Author: Danaj
Subject: 23352
Posted: 31 December 2008 at 5:51pm

My weakness was bread and wine. On the upside, you can have those things as long as you either count them in your total daily allowance, or do extra exercise to earn a few more points. It think off memory I was allowed to earn and use an extra 21 points per week. A very small glass of sav was one and a half points I think?

Anyway, in the end I found that even with the extra exercise, I lost weight faster when I didn't have those naughty things. People can tell you till their blue in the face about what not to eat, but until you do it and click to what your body does and doesn't like, then you'll never really loose it and keep it off for good. No point doing it at all if it's just a quick fix and then putting it all on again.

I found the whole experience incredibly empowering (but tough) as it gave me full control over my own body. In turn, that confidence have me the drive to carry on and loose the rest of the weight. Simply proving to myself that I had the will power and the ability to do it, somehow made it easier?? Does that make sense. And the best part, when you are in full control of your body, those positive feelings spill over to other areas of your life. I'm looking forward to going back and have no negative feelings about being overweight (81kgs at 38 weeks pg) because I know I can loose it.

35kgs may feel like a lot chick but wait till you get to the meeting and meet that woman who lost 65kgs or that guy that has lost 40kg with 30 to go. These people will spur you on. Best of luck!!!

I struggle like anything to get my 500-1kg weight loss and he loses 2-4 kgs per week! Grrr! And he is hardly trying!

For exercise I do anything that is free. If I am spending $18 a week to go to a meeting I won't be able to afford the gym or anything like that.
With the 50 kgs, I never set foot in a gym. I started off doing aerobics videos (my absolute fav was Richard Simmons-sad eh!), then when i was more confident I started going for walks and roller blading etc. Then near the end I joined a local aerobics class run at the high school during term time. That was it.
Now that I have Sam, I will be doing the same - hopefully during nap times, and depending on bed times I might hopefully get to a aqua-aerobics class once a week in the evenings which I love!

So the leaders are people that have lost weight with WW orrr??

I know DF WILL lose weight quick because a few years back when he had a physical job he ate whatever he wanted and never gained a pound like he has MASSES of takeaways, for him I think he just needs to get active so we will have to sus out some fun activites to do together.

What exercise did you do? When I lost the 50 kgs, I only ever thought about the next 5. I would reward myself with something (non food related) like a new pair of running shoes or new jeans etc.

Jess, there is no need for you to cut out those foods you love. Bacon and Eggs are something we do alot on WW. We just switched to the chicken bacon. You could have half the pack for something like 3 pts. Fantastic! You should never feel like you are missing out on things though.
As for Mashed potatoes - I love them! A medium potato is only 1 point, so that is something great to fill up on :) BTW, handy tip, if you mash them with hot milk they end up so creamy that they taste full of butter when are aren't:)

I had a meeting leader who basically said it its not worth eating stuff you don't like, so if you love roast potatoes cooked in oil, then only eat them that way. Just make sure you point them, and don't eat them everyday.
It was the best advice. She used have a rule that if she weighed in and lost she could have a magnum ice cream on the way home. (She kept the points especially). She said she would work extra hard all week thinking about that ice cream and would enjoy it more because of that.

Also, My DH did WW (and lost disgustingly huge amounts each week!! So annoying!) and would save 3 points each day so he could go and have a huge Wendy's combo at the weekend.

I think I am going to have to go and buy that WW mag though - i want the free joining!!!

Edited by Mum2Sam

I don't know. i am going to put together a notebook of foods they regularly eat and how many points they are hopefully he can see that it's not worth blowing ALL those points everyday on a pie, sausage roll and donut then not being able to eat for the next day lol especially when he can have plenty of fresh foods.

So what are you guys weakness's? Mine is bread, I really like bread *sigh* but it doesn't like me. Um mashed potatoe and instant noodles. I don't eat sweets but I do drink regularly which normally involves trips to Mc'dz at 2am after going out or chip and dip. I have started bringing cucumber and carrots with hummus everywhere I go so i don't eat the chips hehe. I will also miss bacon and eggs with DF on Sunday mornings but I am hoping we can do something together INSTEAD of eating.

Sorry for the novel hehe

I told him once I had reached the first target I had set myself - 5kg.

That is another good thing - having little targets to get to rather than looking at the fact that you have to drop 30/40/50kg - first is 5kg, then 10% of your starting weight (7.8kg for me) then 10kg etc. Makes it MUCH easier to get your head around.

    Author: Danaj
Subject: 23352
Posted: 30 December 2008 at 7:10pm

I've been a WW girl for years. You don't have to count points any more if you don't want to as they have points free plans.

It's $18.00 a week for a once a week weigh and meeting. Although you do weigh in front of other people, no one else actually sees your totals as it's displayed only to person who is recording it in your book.

You can choose to buy the WW products but you don't have to. I found them very expensive and you can always find cheaper options sometimes with even less saturated fat and KJ count.

I guess I liked going to the meetings as it was something that kept me on track. Knowing I had to stand up and see those numbers really helped me stay on the plan (which you pretty much design yourself withing limits that they give you).

WW isn't about handing you a plan and saying eat this food in this quantity at this time. The are guidelines and systems that help you stay within the boundries but it teaches you to do this yourself so you can keep the weight off afterwards. I guess that's why I prefer to WW to things like J.Craig with the preprepared meals.

I started at 86kg (only 5ft tall) and got down to 60kg. I varied between 60 and 67 for the last 3-4 years always knowing I had the ability to keep it low if I needed to. I'll be going back as soon as my body is ready to get back to semi normal after bubs arrives. I'm going to see how BF goes before I decide when I'll start back at meetings.

I would follow the plan EXACTLY and still lost very slowly. got depressing cause some people would lose like 1.5kg in a week and I would be giving them (secret) glares and think "why not meeeee?".

Now I am losing weight again through the healthy food guide 10 steps programme, and I just keep in mind that I am the type of person who loses slowly (but puts on quickly - always the way - sigh) and now I'm aiming at .5kg a week.

When I did it properly a few years back I lost nearly 50kg in a year. It was really easy and not once did I feel like I was missing out.
I really want to join again, but with being a SAHM I don't really have $18 a week spare- plus with a toddler in tow I don't know how much I would actually get out of a meeting.
I did find that I needed to go and sit through the meeting to keep my motivation up though.

Oh, and the meetings were great. Really fun and informative. Not anything like you imagine from TV. They just talked about the topic that week, and then usually had a question time etc where you could talk about your week if you wanted too. The enviroment was really good and you weren't pressured to tell how much you weighed/lost etc.

Check out the WW website for meeting locations. The joining fee is around $33 plus the meeting fee of $17.90 a week at the moment. They may have a deal after New Years though.
Good Luck

Edited by Mum2Sam
