I LOVE all Irish names - Caoimhe was one of my top picks for a girl, i adore it. Doesnt it mean Cloud or something to do with clouds? I have a book of Celtic baby names here, i'll come back to this. I've been looking for a neat Celtic boys name but they're all a bit unpronounceable. Aibhlinn would be my second pick though. Well we have a short list, they're all Irish so dunno if much point posting them here as I appreciate alot of people may not like them anyway? But here goes lol

Aoife (Ee-fa) -DP's 2nd fav, but a lady in my LLL group has just named her baby that!

Caoimhe (Key-va)- nice but hard to spell! DP's favourite.

Aibhlinn (Ave-leen)- My fav. atm. I keep changing my mind lol. DP likes it too.

Also Roisin (Ro sheen) and Aoibheann (Evean) are on the list but the latter is jolly hard to spell and I'm only feeling average about Roisin.

SIgh. I like Petra and Piper too but DP thinks Piper is trailer trash (WTF?) and we had a big fight about the time we both like Petra so now have bad associations with it lol.

Ideas???

oooh, thats sounds lovely Bowie! Flows really nicely with Connor too. I saw the name Riordan somewhere (might have been on OB?) and thought it was a gorgeous name... but with a nephew called Rory, DP crossed it off my list! Same story with Royden... but all good, we have a name set in stone, so no more arguing over names

I really love the name Harper but can't seem to get anyone else on my side with that one. Most people think of it as a girls name

My choices are pretty much down to:

Oliver Gregory
Connor Dylan
Harper Knox

A name which i absolutely LOVE is Riardon - its irish and means poet/bard. Pronounced Rear-don. I might still use it (Connor Riardon) but it doesnt flow that well with my last name.

No offense to anyone, but I dont like names that are spelt different but pronounced the same - I think it just makes kids life hard at school etc - they will always have to correct the spelling of their names!

I had 2 lists of names, one for a boy, one for a girl... made DP go through them and narrow down to what he liked... Had it down to 2 possible girls names, and one boys name... only about a week before the scan I went off what we had for one gender... so we were back at square 1! (well... square 2 since we could focus on one side of the fence!) Then out of the blue a friend suggested a name that was a combo of a friend and a relatives name... much the same as Jaelyn's is, and it was perfect!

I find it funny that after all my hunting for names that 'fit' my criteria... none of them sounded right in the end, and we are going with something i hadnt even thought of as a possibility!

For anyone wanting names, these are what i had, but wont be using

Working in ece, you get to see the "trends" in names coming through each year, for example, one year it was Jack, this year it seems to be Ruby. Millie or milla/er is another one that seems to be popular.
I quite like the, i duno if its a trend, of certain boys names for girls. DP doesn't like this though...typical
I think when it comes to choosing names, I'll just give him a list of the ones i've picked and get him to try and make fun of them
(for example [simpsons example aleart!], when marge and homer simpson are trying to choose a name for bart and homer goes through the alphabet "art, bart, cart, dart, e-art...nope nothing wrong with that!")

We started off with Sophie and Thomas for our "Can't Find Anything Better" names.

Partner's daughter is named after Aerith (with the English spelling, though) from the Final Fantasy video game series, and for this one we've decided on naming him/her after Sparrow from the Fable series, what do you guys think of that?

However I am still in my first trimester, so it might change by 40 weeks.

I know there is at least one member here, maybe two with a Cooper but they're the only ones i've ever seen. Its another one i had on my list too

For a boy i'm liking Connor, though its become ridiculously popular in the last few months. Oliver, Rhett, Knox, Julian and Sebastian have come up most frequently for us. Though he'll probably end up being a Connor or an Oliver in the end.

For girls, way back, i think i had Scarlett, Vivienne, Lola (or Lolita), Madeline, Charlotte, Amelia, Sophia, Aubrey or Claudia.

Awww RaspberryJam I think "low la" is gorgeous When I used to read the Charlie and Lola books to one my nanny charges in the UK everytime I would say Lo La he would stop me and say "no Melanie its Looowwwww la" Too cute!

I do know a couple who named their boys James and Hamish - not realising Hamish is the scottish version of James.  As soon as I heard what they'd named their second I was like but that's the same name.

Lol gosh I haven't really thought of matching the name to the surname, but DF's last name pretty well goes with most names.
Though at the moment I have fallen back in love with Maia (It was very nearly Madisons name)
But DF and I once we're married will both have initials of KRS, and we haven't given Madison a middle name and this baby we won't either so two MS's and two KRS's.. Seems a tad mean..

I am so bemused with DH, when we first started talking names I mentioned Ella.. he vetoed saying Ella Nel was too much. I kind of agree with him now so what do you think he suggests to me last night? lol Im exactly the same. Although your name sounds a bit more complicated than mine but I always get the wrong pronunciation. Mine is pronounced like DIana (hence the RI not RE), not like REanna or REana or ROanna... And people always steer at my name badge or say something completely different over the phone.

Our next child will have an easy first and middle name cos I dont want them to have the same problem as me. I'm not an Ana, but it's what I'm thinking of shortening my name too next time I change jobs, unless I stay in the same industry as I know most people in our town in our industry, not being rude or evasive, but as I say there aren't that many of me around and NZ is a very small place, I'm reluctant to put my name on the internet... sorry!

Both DH & I love the name Saoirse, but because all the hassles I've had with people not being able to say my name, to the point I don't wear a name badge at work anymore, even though it's "compulsory" and I make sure my ID is turned around so that people can't read it... don't wanna do that to our child...

I've been thinking about names for #2 already as well Nicky! For a boy, it has always been Conor Joseph (Joseph is DF's and his Dad's middle name so thought we'd keep that going).
For a girl, I want Maree as the midle name. Cause my oldest sister's middle name is Marie, my second oldest sister's first name is Maria and my last name is Murray (different Dad to the sisters with Marie in there name.... Mum wasn't that cruel lol Maria Murray would have been funny). And DF's Nan's name is Mary. Anyway, just thought I'd change the spelling a bit and it kind of pays tribute to all of those names. As for first names, I like Bella (not sure for anything, just Bella), Olivia, Sophie, Bethany, Ella, Imogen (altho don't think it sounds so good with DF's last name), Emily..... sooooo many I like! Which is funny, cause when we had to name Isla, I couldn't find any girl names I liked!! Now I just keep coming up with new names and going ooooh I like that! Would like to find an Irish name that isn't hard to spell...... all the Irish girl names have weird spelling and are hard to pronounce. (DF is Irish, hence the Irish name...... just ignore the fact our daughter has a Scottish name.... lol)

Zaylah, I'd love to name 3 bubbas! I love researching names! A bit off topic but my mum breeds guinea pigs and she has had hundreds of them over the years and every single one has had it's own name and we've never used the same name twice! lol They get 'people' names (ie not Fluffy or Scruffy) so a lot of the baby names I like have been used on a guinea pig which buggers me really, not sure if I could name my baby after a guinea pig.......!!

Well... we just found out today we're having a girl... stoked but the hard thing is that we had pretty much settled on a boy's name and as we walked out of the hospital, DH turned to me and said "oh no, girls names are going to be so much harder to choose!"

My issue is that I have a very uncommon foreign name and I have only meet 2 other me's in my lifetime both with different spellings and most people can't pronounce it or spell it and it drives me banana's... I don't want do that to our baby girl, but at the same time I don't want something common or popular!

I'm finding its Dh that keeps changing his mind he's come up with a couple of names I really like - so far James and William with Henry as a middle name.
I loved James for ages - but now DH has gone off it - I've decided not to go on about liking William until the anatomy scan and then give him my little list and get him to choose.

lol Madiandme, thats exactly what I did to DP... I had my heart set on Jaelynne but he didnt like it... do you know how HARD it is to find a nice, but not common name for a girl starting with J!?!? (She had to have the same initials as DPs mum who had passed away the week prior to the anatomy scan) So in the end I wrote down any girls name that I didnt NOT like, but made sure Jaelynne was at the top lol! Then I told him he had until Sunday 5pm to make a choice (since HE wasnt coming up with any name ideas!) or I was going to call her whatever I damn well liked!!

He went online and checked out what all the names meant and decided Jaelynne was the perfect name given the events of the previous month, but changed the spelling slightly, so now he thinks HE chose the name but in the end I still got the name I really wanted!

Lisa, when I say it was a 'made up' name, I had NEVER sen it before, until we had come to a decision that it was going to be her name... I just took the 'J' and added my '2nd mothers' name to the end (Lyn) and Jaelynne was what I came up with... my oldest bought home a school notice yesterday, and one of the kids whose name is under the principals award list is called Jaylyn... lol!

We used MILs name choice (she never got the daughter she'd always wanted, but had a name that she wanted to use the whole time she was having kids) as a middle name too as I wasnt sold on the idea of using it for a girl, and I'd also picked my own choice of middle name taken from both sides off the family, so her full name is Jaelyn Annie (my choice) Alaina (MILs choice) and Dps last name

I am SCREWED if I end up with another girl... Bugger, I had a little notebook and everytime I came across a name I liked I put it down, DP had one too but never wrote in his, he kept looking at mine and going "Nope, don't like any of these names!" He was dead set we were having a boy that would be named after him.

So Joshua... Something possibly another something and last name. I suggested Malcolm or John for one of the middle names but he said NO! Yet couldn't suggest any names himself

In the end I twisted his arm into finding out the sex at 20wks and then a couple of days later I just texted him saying we're going to call her Lily Anne Maria. And he texted back saying it was perfect!

Zaylah I would love to name 3 babies!! There is just so many names I like it would be great!
Noella is pretty!! I like the sound of Noeline too but reminds me of Noelene (sp?)
What about Ivy? I am dying to name the next kid Ivy, although I prob won't like it by then!
Molly is cute too!

I remember when we were trying to find a boys name and I had already started calling bubs Caleb in my head I would ask DP what he liked and every time he mentioned a name I would say "Or Caleb!" SK - I LOVE Molly!!! It would never be agreed to though, and he has a little 2nd cousin called Molly. She is so cute - 3 years old and gets called 'Molly Dolly' by family, adorable!

The next closest name we have is Charlotte - I don't feel like it's quite right though, and I do remember a few years ago that I wasn't keen on it at all. Oh it's all too difficult!

Got a middle name almost sorted though, either Noelette or Noella I think - my dad passed last year and his name was 'Noel' so we both really want to use his name somewhere. I've never been keen naming the first name of a child after someone though, not sure why. So will definitely be a middle name and not a first name. Dad always wanted me to use the name 'Heather' which is nice, but so not us! I like Mason and Roman for a boy but DH has vetoed... still nothing for a girl... DH likes Blair for a boy.. Im not sure.

I do complain but I do also enjoy it. Jaelyn was a 'made up' name... but it seems to keep popping up in random places, sometimes with different spelling... it is a real name though, has a meaning and everything lol...

We are having a girl and naming her Molly, I also like Lilly, Lola any Betty (i love old fashioned names)
