I remember getting sick quite a bit when pregnant with Maddi. Made worse by the fact there wasn't much I could take for anything. I think I was a lot more careful about not passing on germs and made sure I ate pretty healthy which probably stopped me catching a few of the bugs going around.

About the last month I had the most horrid cold that wouldnt budge. I was really sick with terrible colds all through the 1st 3 months with this pregnancy, couldn't believe that I was getting one cold after another. But it was winter and I probably pciked up heaps from DD too.

I think I do okay as far as colds etc goes when I'm pregnant. Maybe it's because my iron levels are monitored and supplemented as needed, whereas when I'm not pg I wouldn't really have a clue. I got a wicked head cold at 20 odd weeks. I had to talk time off work as I couldn't talk without my eyes watering and sneezing all the time.

I've noticed that with my hayfever this time, although last time it was still pretty horrid. 

The reason you could have felt so great last time was the great weather we were having coupled with all those feel good preggy hormones.  If I remember correctly when you were 39wks (which would have been around when Michaela was born) we had a few days of storms which could have preceded that awful cold you got.

you're immunity lowers when you're pregnant, like MrsMojo said, to let your body accept the embryo. I came down with a terrible flu within days of conceiving Emily! I read everywhere that your immunity lowers when pregnant.
I had 2 awful colds in the 2nd tri, one of them lasted nearly 6 weeks (instead of the usual 2). I just remember being really well, feeling great then getting a horrible as flu in my 39th week. Many women find during pregnancy that their immunity is lowered to allow their body to accept this foreign object (i.e. embryo).  I had the worst flu when I was about 6wks pregnant with Michaela, I thought I was going to cough up my little baby. 

That's the case during the first trimester, I'm not sure whether your immunity increases once the placenta takes over or whether you were simply lucky last time.  Someone else can probably answer that.

ETA: We were lucky enough to be pregnant with our daughters mostly during spring and summer which may be why you didn't catch anything until nearer the end (autumn).

I'm generally quite well during pregnancy too but apparently your immunity actually lowers, so you are more prone to catching various bugs and colds - because so much of your body is busy growing and nurturing baby.

I am trying to rack my brains and I know the OB ladies will know.

When you are pregnant, do you get that 'super immunity' where you don't seem to pick up many colds/flu - except at the end?

Sounds a bit odd I know, but I vaguely remember being really well during pregnancy except in the last week when I had the mother of all colds....
